And then you would have a bunch of people complaining that they have missed one objective in week 2 and now they don't get a mech yada yada yada, big drama, people being 'forced' to play for weeks, unfair…
This is much less hassle for PGI and a lot more convenient for players (that take the time to actually read the event description.)

The general idea is that a) the weeklies start in a given week but end with the end of the event and b ) the more difficult/grindy goals start first.
Another (and non-exclusive) solution would be to do it a little like the loot bag events do and have X total goals to complete, but you only need Y to unlock the mech (where Y<X) while doing the full X would award you with a cosmetic or something like that.

My one concern with that is if someone is away for a week they would miss out unless I have them un the whole month but with weekly start dates
then the 4 missions each starting a week apart but all culminating at the end of the month. So technically you could still try and grind them all out at the end of the month.

I would have the 4 mission sets run till the end of the month but then start them weekly. Technically could grind them out in the last weekend still. That way weekend Warriors can distribute their playtime.
Yep, that's basically what I'm saying/

One way to make it even more casual friendly could be making it so that the mech itself can be unlocked by the end of the third week and make the last week catch-up time for the stragglers and a bonus round for those who already unlocked the mech and are working on upgrading it (so: chassis specific goals that award weapons, omnipods, HSP etc)

Guess you don't understand marketing.

Marketing brings in revenue through potential spending by customers as well as an income stream to the organisation displaying the advert. If you hadn't seen the event or played in it; it is possible you would not have known about the new keyboard. The event means you do know for certain - it remains your prerogative to visit the site or make a purchase.

To show that their advertising campaign has been worthwhile, they need a metric, in this case a click through to identify the potential audience coverage and interest (no further details would be necessary other than which link was used, in this case PGI's).

No interest (regardless of conversion to a sale of their product through any retailer) means no further investment in that advertising route, means a lesser income stream for the organisation that has been commissioned to run the campaign, means less money to invest or show as a return and will constrict potential investment in the project/business as a whole. Considering the recent takeover of PGI & MWO, this could have a clear repercussion on the life of the game.

You may not owe them anything, but this is a potential income stream that means you get to play the game longer; so you do owe yourself and others the opportunity to support this event in a way that is meaningful, or is it that you want MWO to close by not exploring other avenues of income (other than subscriptions or even more micro-transactions that come out of your pocket) that cost you and other players nothing but a few click and moments of your time?

Well to me marketing and advertising is mostly full of crap, lies, deception which I ignore
Over promise under deliever has been my experience
If something is legit good it don't need alot of marketing

More marketing just makes me think, why are they spamming what they are spruiking
Marketing and advertising does not inspire confidence in me, but independent reviews do

You the gamer.
With that in mind - Playing the game, engaging in forums, or making purchase decisions are all about doing what is right for you the gamer. I 100% respect that, and we are keenly aware of what you guys want and are working to get those improvements in the game as soon as possible.

My hope is together we can improve the product and grow the audience to revitalize the game and community as a whole. Internally the codename we have for this effort is "MWO Reborn" so stick with us this year and I believe we can achieve some really great things.

That sounds very cool Matt and we all like to join and support you in that matter.
I try to be active on the forum for example but sadly i still haven't gotten an answer on my question in Posting #47Posted Image : Is the Applejack Camo a one shot or does it count for all future and existing Huntsman in my garage?

I can't give you a definitive answer as I've only redeemed the camo on an account that only has the one huntsman. Historically, camo patterns from events have been for the chassis so I'd say with 99% confidence that it will apply to existing and future variants. I hope. 99% is acceptable! :)

I'm a fairly new player, I started in late January, and am still working on skilling up the 4 mechs I've used to fill my mech bays, and getting the money to buy engines, and I'm not good by any means (I'm at the very bottom of Tier 5). But I feel like I've made good progress on all the quests so far (except the UAV kills one, I've done nothing on that, so I'll have to make a build that can do that). I think I have 25 of the components destroyed, and 20 of the kills or most damage done (most of these are most damage done). If I can get that far by the first weekend, with modestly skilled mechs, someone else with their first cadet bonus mech should be able to complete it in the first month.

So far I've the slowest progress in an evet challenge has been either UAV kills or the do 1000 damage in an assault from last event (I think my lowest was 14 in one match then).

Like lets say March is the hunchback. You technically could have a choice of Hunchback Standard Variants.

Hi again, Matt... I have read through the thread thus far, and think that the format which you used to launch February's Earn-A-Mech Event is already the best idea. Please avoid letting anyone make you alter, mess up, and/or change your already chosen format even slightly. Why? Some people will only have time either in the beginning or middle of the month, but will not have time in the end of the month, and trying to make it an evolving type of Event that stacks up to a final result will only completely shut out those people who have no ability to be around at the end. In some cases, trying to force being around during a particular part of a month (or having to do constant play throughout a month to minimize personal load) will actually have the reverse effect on people and make them give up before they tried, all because they did not feel that they could fit MWO into their own scheduling, which would result in losing players at a time when we both want the Player Base to grow as much as possible. Maybe I'm a little crazy, but would be rather nice to have the population reach at least half of what it was back in December 2015 at this point, and I think your current chosen format can achieve that, possibly even reaching better amounts of players online. ^_^

Sure, we're going to have a minor few people (as someone earlier in the thread noted, this is not as prevalent as others want to make it seem) who pull that 'yolo' junk, but that could also happen at the end too for people who wait for everything to become available. They wait, and then they carpet bomb people with the same behavior because they're rushing due to the lack of understanding that they could have worked on it earlier, with more time to do so. Staggered and/or delayed starts could just as easily have a bad effect later on, as some people would not take too well to the smaller time limit on one part or another, and throw all in suddenly somewhere along the way. Having this kind of Event set up in the format which you're already using right now, such that any part can be started at any time during the month, can only have a result where it will enable some people to completely dodge the madness that other players resort to, and I really think you'll find the experience for them comes out better for it. Whether or not those people who liked this format take the time to post back and tell you they preferred it is entirely another matter. Maybe putting up a Poll on the MWO Forums to find out how people feel, and having a News Post routing to it could help, since some people do not trust third-party company operations? :)

Also, please do not let anyone talk you into cross-linking these Earn-A-Mech Events with requirements to play specific Game Modes to complete them. I still remember some time back when that happened with the Loot Bag Events going on. That turned into a nightmare where some people could not get a Match and/or had such high delays before they could get one, which resulted in their being unable to get enough for some parts and/or complete some of the heavier/greater goals. Time ultimately ran out, and people therefore ended up locked out where it should never have happened. I think we can agree that a repeat of that kind of situation is best to avoid, right? :(

Yet, I would be derelict after all these items to avoid altering on the format if I did not give something constructive in the other direction on things worth doing. I can not remember even after three passes through the thread so far (Probably because I was moving through so fast after multiple IRL disruptions in order to re-gather my thoughts to put on the above paragraphs... Shame on me, eh?) whether you were the only person to mention the idea of a choice in Variant for whatever Chassis is up for earning. However, that would be an excellent idea to enable people to choose the Variant which they want upon earning the ability to get one, and gets my complete SUPPORT for several reasons. I am sure you are already aware of the reasons, but for others to see... One side to this is simply the differences in HardPoints available on each, and how any Loadout ultimately would best use a certain starting Variant to work with. I'm thinking the bigger positive is likely the Quirks allocated to each, particularly in the case of OmniMechs and the fact that people can only get the "Set Of 8" additives if they don't change the pods. I wonder though about what the mentality of other people is about certain geometry on one Mech or another, as I've tended to go with the flow in many cases... :o

That brings me to one last thought... I must apologize for the last time I pinged you with a quote, but did not have a happy-minded Forum-wide Signature on display. I was definitely not in the best frame of mind at the time due to something on another thread. Sorry about that one.

Well, almost the last thought... Is there any chance I can ask what caused the difference between the Website News and Event Page listings? I am starting to wonder if there was some kind of partly-hidden punchline related to Star Trek here, something about "there are 4 lights/dice" versus "there are 5 lights/dice" going on? (Dang... I think that I will never forget the whole "Picard captured by Gul Dukat" scene! Too many things end up reminding me of it...)

Once more, since I have not been able to start the Event myself before now... Thank You for making it a month-long Event with all the parts fired off at the same time which people can pick up and do at any pace. It really takes the stress off and can enable a very positive learning experience. Pardon me while I hit the battlefields! :D

Assault mechs aren't very beginner-friendly. You probably want to go with ones in 80-90 ton range that can do 60-65 KPH to begin with - it's still "slow" compared to some other mechs, but not as much of a death trap as, say, an Annihilator would be.

WOW Starts: Friday, Feb 5th, 20:00 UTC (Feb 5th 15:00 EST, 12:00 PST) yet the email came in Tue 2/9/2021 12:02 PM well after the stream that is mentioned where things were given away. Wonder how many others got the news way late and missed a chance at winning something. Posted Image

I don´t know why some people like this event that much.

Feels like a job and I know it´s good to get a mech if you do the challenges, but hell, getting the camo by hitting 10 UAVs is no fun at all. Played a whole night and NONE of the opposing team used one.

I know we have the whole month to finish but some players like to do the event and be done with it, not get chained to it by an objective than not only distracts you from the battlefield but at times is completely unachievable. Posted Image

I understand how you feel about the matter, as I only have 7/10 UAV Kills myself at the time of when I'm posting this. Some people are only going to have part of the month for the Event in order to put effort toward completing this part. It might have felt more positive to only ask for 5 UAV Kills to be done, but then either turn up the number of Hit-And-Run required or add a "# instances of TAG Damage" to compensate the difference. (At least, I know that I would have enjoyed a TAG-involved Challenge to do, but that's just me.) Although, given how hard it normally is to get additional Camo for a Mech as a Permanent Unlock type of item, that could be why there is a heavily increased difficulty curve here. It would also explain why we are not getting many complaints from the crowd that would want things made harder, and is a quiet period which I rather much appreciate during this Event's run. Good luck to both of us on the battlefields? :)

He, he, that's a good one. I wouldn't call the event very difficult but that just the challenges don't work together on what's going on when you are there with the team.

Since I mostly play only for events now, the particular challenge just makes you quit the game, instead of holding you to spend more time around.

Did people suddenly ran out of them? I saw plenty of players using them at the beginning, but now rarely you see even one.

Played again in the morning and nothing. It's demotivating.

I like when Matt makes events that you just get there and mostly damage, score, kills or KMDD are the main goal WITH the rest of the challenges happen almost automatically by playing well.

7 out of 10?, good for you since you are almost there... I have a long way to goPosted Image , and going to the battlefield only thinking to get one more damned UAV down is a serious annoyance. I have to even select not good or bad mechs to reach the thing.

You are right, just 5 would have been much, much better.Posted Image

I like the event because you actually have to work for your food! If you think this event has a lot of pieces to it, you should see what it takes to complete a World of Warships event! WAY more difficult.

You're getting a free mech out of the deal, so you gotta put in the work to get it! I, for one, enjoy events that are challenging ... even thought this event really isn't that challenging when you break it down. Struggling with a part of it ?? Stop by my stream and ask questions, am happy to help!

I would say that most of my mechs have UAVs and I use them. In fact, it is extremely rare I ever end a match with an unused consumable. My hope is that events that require UAV kills at least helps the playerbase become a bit more aware of them and that shooting them down is helpful if you are not currently engaged or imminently going to be.

I think Matt is great at this, but it is always difficult to cater to cadets and to veterans alike.

A veteran does in 5 games what might take 50 for a Cadet.

In that regard this event already finds a good middleground. some things like the 7 day premium time are super easy to do, so available to cadets. And one of the things, the AMS for the Black Color requires alot of matches even for a veteran.

Keeping this in mind, anything that is super important to a cadet should be super easy, like the new mech (because a cedet REALLY needs that one mech), things that are nice to have should be medium dificulty, and then some things that are not super important for cadets but handy for a veteran should be hard and grindy.

This way the cadet gets what they need, and the veteran completionist has something to grind for, even if in this case was a color that i really didnt need, i grinded for it.

The hardest achievement is by far the AMS one, so you should try to use some missile loadouts as well.
