Yup. Another Thunderbolt with mrms and energy weapons. Great.
The Thunderbolt at least brings MASC, ECM, and JJs to the table.
The Grand Dragon is utter trash, and those that weren't blinded by nostalgia knew it would be.

Fix the grand dragon. Or replace with Dragon 7K. No in-between.

This is actually really smart to have early adopter awards available for a short time after release. Should cut down on cancellations or refunds for people who are unhappy with quirks and balance issues they see. And since all packs since Clans have been available indefinitely, you can still call it an early adopter. There's no need to coerce people to buy before everything has even been built in the pack. I like the booster pack idea too. Hope you continue on this route and also think of re-releases of existing variants in new configurations that aren't really in a pack. Maybe even consider redesigning old packs too for a simpler purchase model and more flexibility for new players.

1. Make the Grand Dragon MASC capable. A couple of ECM capable mechs don't come stock with a ECM module (COM-2D, AS7-D-DC for example). The base Grand Dragon doesn't need to come stock with MASC; it just needs a DEV to toggle MASC III capability on the variant, and the community can then opt to alter their Grand Dragon into a later era variant by adding MASC.
2. With the majority of the Mech's firepower being derived from its Energy Hardpoints, the fact that the missile hardpoints offer VERY little options or firepower, and the matter of it being a 60 ton mech, the Grand Dragon is looking mightily undergunned. It doesn't have the tonnage required to effectively run 2x LPLs & 2x H-PPCs to maximize the firepower available to a 4 energy hardpoint cap; and it's certainly not tough or fast enough to be able to face tank/evade return fire for sustained periods while it sheds heat. Providing a unique quirk to bequeath a unique style of gameplay to the Grand Dragon would aid tremendously in increasing the variant's appeal. A HSL +1 to Large Lasers or PPCs could do wonders for curbing the community's trepidation. Just give it a quirk to make it feel unique and effective enough to provide an enjoyable piloting experience.
You guys have been trying to regain the community's trust; and the community wants to believe its being listened to. Resolving this widespread disappointment could work wonders towards achieving your stated goal.

That's the BT lore of this mech. Seeing how it was made as a superior Dragon: https://www.sarna.ne...ki/Grand_Dragon
Also, PGI had nothing to do with the naming of this mech. This was by FASA back in the 80's.

Be that as it may, it's still something that a LOT of people are going to look at and think "oh that's racist, this game is racist" like there are some Serious Implications here. High ranking klansmen call themselves Grand Dragon, go around wearing all red...
like, not everyone comes into this game with extensive knowledge of the background and lore - this is the perfect opportunity to move away from ANY implications, and any ire it might draw.
How about: Great Dragon? just spitballing here?

You may have a good point, but I doubt the authors had racial intentions when coming up with this mech. It is all based on how people perceive certain names or ideas and take them out of context without understanding the meaning of things. I also know that there are some Klansmen who like to call themselves "Grand Wizards". If the people get offended for not reading up on the history of the mech, then that is on them, not PGI. The Grand Dragon is a fine name given the lore of it and I'd rather stay away from political or bigoted discussions (racially motivated or otherwise) as I'd had enough sensitive topics like this for a lifetime, especially in a video game like this.

Let them think what they want. A simple google search is all it takes to find the entry for the mech on Sarna. Snowflakes have no place in the 31st Century.

Why do we have to alter decades of background lore because some people are stupid and malicious?
No.
