Hey, a warm welcome back to MWO!
I myself just returned last summer 2020, and a lot has changed!
Depending on when you left MWO:
MWO Civil War timeline + lots of new weapons!

Lots of new mech chasis, variants, Hero, Special, & Loyalty mechs!
As a newcomer coming back to MWO, it's the best bang-for-your-buck ever!
All Standard Variant mechs are available for virtual C-BIlls.
Regular events yielding some MC, enough to buy a Hero mech if you keep at it!
In fact, the mechs/services now has the lowest value-for-MC, ever.
This is the best of times for newcomers (and returnees) back to MWO!

Welcome back!
I started playing just under a year ago and have found Baradul's videos on youtube to be helpful to understand how the skill tree works, and in general how to build mechs (he'll say if he is doing something just for laughs and wouldn't recommend it.) Make sure you do more recent videos (last two years I think are the ones since last major meta changes)
