You realize that IS can do fairly similar laser alpha profiles now...like 4LL +5ERML, and laser alphas are a valid meta in the game, they run ridiculously hot and any smart player will either learn to trade, or learn to maneuver and push laser vom mechs.

Why the heck are Clan ER-Medium lasers so dang bad now. they are basically un-useable any form of boating setup and stock mechs like the Nova-Prime are a walking death sentence cause its way too hot to be effective most the the match.

On a similar note why do Clan Mechs feel so disadvantaged nowadays. I feel like w/e team has the larger Inner Sphere mech force is gonna win. Mainly due to them having some of the best new tech and HP pools larger than just about anything a Clanner can field.

Bare in mind im not saying things are horribly imbalanced but i do feel like many Clan mechs are severely hampered by how bad the non pulse lasers are outside of a few meta builds on specific mechs. Trying to use CER-Meds to fill in hardpoint slots for more Fire Power is just asking to Overheat.

I could just be imagining things though, feel free to share your thoughts.


Clan mechs are fine for the most part. The weapons are good or bad based on the constant "balance adjustments".

IS mechs seems op because of one thing. Rotary ACs. Bushwackers running around coring out your 100 ton assault in less than 15 seconds is dumb.

We are not talking about top 10 players in the world. We are talking about every division A team MRBC or MOR since 2017. Dozens of players.
And no, it is not about environments, even QP or FP laser vomits are garbage trash.

It is safe to say that CERML, CHLL, GAUSS, CHML are the top 4 most riddicolously useless garbage guns in the game


Yeah gauss is so useless and garbage you used two of them on your direwolf to secure victory in worlds. If the list you provided is the entirety of the meta, why aren't cERLL and cgauss not being mentioned on that meta list? You know, the ones you used it on worlds, and the weapons your opponents used as well. Coincidentally, also happens to be one of the loadouts you commonly use to smash pugs.

my man there is no way on earth RAC5s are overpowered, come on. Do you realize how long 15 seconds is in this game? How are you, in an assault mech, letting a Bushwacker a. stare at you for that long without coring it out and b. letting it put every shot into your CT? Twist.

The meta Data was talking about is pre-cauldron, it's dated March 1 2021, not 2022

Is there a reason you want to stare that Bushwacker for 15 seconds?
I'd say most of the mechs in the game can kill most of the mechs in the game if you give them 15 seconds of free shooting.

I use the Bushwacker with RAC5s because its a good starter mech with simple weapon grouping, minimal twisting etc.

But it has a lot of weaknesses you can take advantage of. It needs time on target, so if you trade and shift to cover you will put it at a disadvantage because it loses time to spooling up and also needs time to deal damage.

It was interesting to get both Platinum packs recently and go back and forth between the IS and Clan Jenners as I was skilling them both up, both set up identically, but with MLasers on the IS mech and ERMLasers on the clan mech. A rare toe-to-toe comparison for me.

I definitely found the IS mech performed better overall, had way less shut downs due to overheating, and I had a higher survival rate, and higher match scores pretty consistently.

So, yeah, maybe clan ERMLasers need to be looked at again.

Shutting down bad, stop doing it. at least in T1 shutting down in light is death sentence 99% times. learn to manage your heat it's not really weapons fault if you cannot estimate your available heat.

More shutdowns --> Smaller survival rate --> Lower match score

Oh I get it, believe me, but my logic is more like this.

Less shutdowns but good damage and range -->higher survival rate-->better weapon for a simple guy like me!

Yeah, but you actually build them differently. The Clan mech can take a slightly smaller engine and get packed full of double heat sinks... something the IS jenner cannot do because it runs out of internal space. Do that, and they perform about the same... only the clan one runs at much longer ranges and for more damage.

Yeah, RAC-5's are hypothetically great in concept, not so much in actual execution.I suspect they'd work far better in tabletop on averrage then MWO, but even there they don't seem very popular. RAC-2's jam less, have less weight, more ammo, conventional and clan AC5's can fire fairly quickly themselves with no jam chance but an arguable ammunition capacity penalty, UAC-5's can fire faster then AC5's, almost at RAC-5 speed with some mechs with again, less chance of jam and a relatively minor capacity penalty, LBX's can do spread damage at fairly decent ranges, fire fairly fast, ect.

But yeah, the RAC-5's ultimately undone just by essentially having to many viable competitors with multiple desireable properties.

i disagree on that, non of the weaponsystems have the capability of continueous firesupport that a rac 5 offers .. the rac 5 imho is a good pick for when you want to provide firesupport with medium mechs were you otherwise lack the tonnage and space for boating AC 2s/5s .. it offers a better DPS for lower tonnage in that case ...

otherwise on heavies the RAC 5 is (at least for me) a nice tool for brawling with putting continiuous screenshake on the opponent ..
i use a dual RAC5 roughneck and when i get the opportunity i go out and melt fools with its firebarage i don´t see me getting with a compareable UAC or Standart AC build .. otherwise go and couple Racs with uacs on an Assault ... i have tried an annihilator with 2 uac 10 and 2 RAC 5s ... this thing DELETES (needs to shave of some armor though) ..... otherwise if you want range then 3 Rac 2 and dual UAC 5s ... i love it, it´s fun ...

any ballistic option has a drawback of some kind
LBX splash (no enemy screenshake on hit) and depending on the ammount of cannons not a continiuous bulletstream
Standart AC primarily the cooldown between shots that you have a less continious stream of bullets like with LBXs
UAC´s ... within those 15 seconds the avarage player will Jam its weapons significantly many more times than with racs ...

I hate them. They are barely useable outside of clan assaults, due to the heat. I've actually come around to small lasers. Less range, but the damage and heat are great
