My favorite mech is the EXE, it was not overpowered or popular by any means. MASC was perfect as is.

This patch completely ruined my main chassis, as the loss of agility will cripple a mech already struggling with giant hitboxes and low slung hardpoints that cant even fit that many weapons. I dont give a damn about extended sprint, you dont need that, you need to work corners with MASC agility to make the EXE work at all.

Ive always played fast assaults and at this point they are just forcing everyone to load up as much alpha as possible on a 70kph chassis and **** build variety or different playstyles.

PGI is clueless and I'm so glad I didnt pre-order the MASC thunderbolt.

If MASC was an issue on the lighter mechs, they should have made the change to them separately.

Im one of the few.

So yeah, why nerf the **** out of a mech barely anyone likes or uses?

I reinstalled a couple weeks ago, back to retirement I guess.

Exe has had a bit of a resurgence as a high-skill mech. And yeah, masc changes are not good for it.

It has taken me many years but I've finally achieved an average damage per match that exceeds 12 with the Exe.

But yeah this patch seems to nerf MASC mechs with JJs and buff MASC mechs that don't.

The MASC changes aren't doing it any favors, but the mech's biggest issue for me is the giant CT hitbox. Related to that hitbox is the fact that the mech can't even twist a full 90 degrees. It can twist faster than most medium mechs, but it doesn't matter how fast you can twist if your max twist range is microscopic. It's like wearing a straight jacket.

You could previously make the EXE work if you absolutely used MASC to its fullest. Pointing out the other issues the mech has doesnt change the fact that this absolutely destroys what little chance the chassis had.

It's a way bigger deal than you might think for any heavy or assault with MASC, not sure how often you use the item.

Averaging about 900 damage with the executioner, I can honestly say you're exaggerating. MASC acceleration is not being nerfed, and you should be shooting as you're decelerating anyways so you can't MASC then because of reticle shake. For good builds with the EXE, you're not going to be brawling, but trading, so the longer MASC duration will allow you to reposition faster. The turn nerf means nothing.

MASC is the only thing the EXE has going for it. It's one of the largest mechs in the game. The right torso hit box is far too large given that most of the weapons are on the right side. The CT is huge too. It's massive engine limits its weapon tonnage. This coming patch ruins a lot of things that didn't need ruining.

When I made this thread I thought they meant that the new MASC would only buff your turning by 10%

Now Im realizing it actually nerfs your turning to 10% of normal.

Ha... hahahahahahahahaha.... and I was already upset hahahaha, omg PGI has to be the absolute worst developer to survive more than 5 years.

With this is mind now, can anyone in their right mind say that MASC didnt just get absolutely ruined?

It's my fault. I gave them money.

If your thesis is that the executioner needs love and the MASC changes hurt it you wont get an argument from me, except that I think the executioner was kind of crap before the MASC changes. Its *way* undergunned for its weight and for absolute sure it needs love.

the only way it works is if you use the masc and jj to give you that little bit of extra mobility. jump turning and using masc to boost acceleration while moving short distances lets you poke corners fairly fast for an assault. dump your alpha and get back into cover. then its good in a corner poke brawl config, or an atm boat. otherwise its just another knuckle dragging mediocre fatmech.

This is the thing about bad mechs some have build that work very well but unlike a good mech beyond those there not many options for load outs that work on them

i cant say its the most podspace starved assault. gargles gets that honor. there are some things you can do with it. usually some kind of mixed build.

I used to make the EXE work with a decent 2.0 kdr over my many hours pugging in the machine back when I was tier 1 like 3 years ago.

Recently reinstalled and my EXE was stomping the low tiers and was still a ton of fun.

Now it's iredeemable garbage.

This patch put me back in retirement.

Good luck guys

I used to all the time. It's in my top favorite looking mechs in the game. I wish it had the same amount of threat back in GBL as it does in MW:O.

Current Executioner turn rate: 55 deg/sec
With full [Anchor Turn] from skill tree, that's 71.5 deg/sec.

Torso twist rate: 103.5 deg/sec
With full [Torso Speed] from skill tree, that's 134.55 deg/sec.

Deceleration: 19.47 kph/sec2
With full [Hard Brake] from skill tree, that's 24.24 kph/sec2

With the pre-patch MASC settings, you would reach 92.95 deg/sec leg turn rate, and 41.208 kph/sec2 deceleration.
In 250 milliseconds:
You'd be able to leg-turn + twist 56.875 degrees. Whatever width your hitboxes were, now the apparent width facing the enemy is reduced to 54.6%. So if EXE's CT was 2 meters wide from the front, now the width facing the enemy is only 1.09 meters.

Post-patch MASC, activating it nerfs your turn rate, and deceleration stays the same, so... no reason to activate it to defend?

The MASC changes on the Shadowcat are a big disappointment. The longer duration is nice, but not worth the slower cooldown speed. And the loss of the turning really hurts when knife fighting.

Shadowcat was already mediocre and only worth playing for the toys, and now they've broken one of the toys.

Most mechs with MASC are usually horrendously under-gunned.
Think Executioner and Shadowcat.

I strongly suspect the primary motive for nerfing MASC out of the blue is because of the upcoming Stryker Pack's Thunderbolt TDR-10SE with JJ+MASC+ECM, which might turn quite well with JJ+MASC used together, and it's got quite a rich weapon hardpoint layout.

(The Kodiak Spirit Bear KDK-SB was one of the very popular MASC assault for a while, but got greatly nerfed due to engine desync--which felt like a custom nerf against KDK-SB, but affecting all other mechs as well.)
