However this hasn't yet been published on mw5mercs.com, mwomercs.com or Steam itself.
So GG PGI? It's kind of astounding that they'd flub finally announcing a release date and the only way we learn of this is through a dry press release from their new parent company.
Also, "Spring 2021" and releasing at the very end of May is REALLY stretching the definition of Spring in my eyes. June 1st I consider to be firmly Summer.
Really don't think I should expect any less at this point though.

I hope that Epic Deal got them all the money they ever need, because sure as hell they lost a lifetime of trust.

DLC which should have been part of the main game at release. I pre-ordered MW5 and remember the many Discord Q&A's which were performed. Oh and who could forget the "weekly" screenshots which weren't weekly.
My point being that during one of those Q&A's Russ said that the Corsair would totally be in the main game. And even the MW5 short story series that they released leading up to the game coming out included the Corsair.
But now they want us to pay for the DLC which includes the Corsair and a handful of other mechs that should have been in the base game.
I'm often the voice of support for PGI. I like MWO and feel it's a well balanced and fun game (haven't tried the latest patch). I'm happy and excited to have a company out there keeping Mechwarrior alive. But now that CGL has burst onto the scene with a wildly successful tabletop revitalization and HBS has graced us with an exceptionally tight and high quality turn based tactical game MW5 feels like the odd duck out with it's barely viable random mission generator gameplay, crap AI, and unpolished weapons effects.
Overpromise and Underdeliver. You've got that backwards PGI.

Can you actually buy it though? Or just download and play it while it's on game pass? I'm not super familiar with the system. I don't believe you can actually play it on an Xbox console (yet).

You did read the press release I posted as the OP right? We knew this over 8 hours ago.

In its current state, a mess.
1 - You cannot play with people on other servers. GOG cannot play with Steam, xBox, Epic and stand alone PC players, same for the others.
2 - Other players are better than the AI allies so you actually want other players often due to how bad the AI is BUT
3 - Only the main person playing the game gets rewards, NONE of you real allies gets anything. Unless you work out deals like, "Play in 5 missions for me, I will play in 5 missions for you," you either get really nice people on the same platform or live with the AI bots who will violate mission objectives and not follow orders sometimes.

a) GOG has (finally) put MW5 on the map, as "Coming Soon".
http://www.gog.com/g...r_5_mercenaries
http://www.gog.com/g...he_inner_sphere
[Edit: Thanks to Wildstreak who spoted GOG's MW5 DLC]
Advantage of GOG: DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
b ) Steam has just mentioned the MW5 DLC "Heros of the Inner Sphere" as "Spring 2021" release date.

========================================
For the record, I'm willing to buy MW5 and/or the DLC if, and only if:
For MW5 Preorder on GOG/Steam, please help to give us inside MWO in-game:
(I'm currently sitting on the fence for MW5 on GOG/Steam; if below four (4) ingame mechs can be awarded then I'll jump at MW5 pre-order!):
Catapult CPLT-C2(S) for MWO in-game
Warhammer WHM-9D(S) for MWO in-game
Marauder MAD-9M(S) for MWO in-game
King Crab KGC-001(S) for MWO in-game

LOL, GOG does it again with the broken Forum Discussion link.
Heroes of the Inner Sphere listed on the right side if you scroll down. Not much to it though, 3 of the 'lostech' Mechs are not, some stuff just begs the question even more why MWO does not get replaced.

Or you could just share saves.. But i can't think of a single player co-op game that doesn't work like that. You join the game, play the game and work of the save you are playing.

Also gives a reason not to get since having 2 store clients open wastes computer resources.
Though it is still possible people who do play through GOG or Steam may be able to interact with each other and Epic buyers since everyone would need to be going through Epic to play, only those on Microsoft are left out that is proven reading through reviews in Microsoft Store.

wait.
I need an EGS account to play on Steam? HUH?! Doesn't that raise some COI questions? And I definitely don't want EGS having access to my personal data, given their VERY spotty history in this regard.
If there's anything that will cause me to absolutely not purchase MW5 and the DLC, it's this.
If any of you know me, you know that I've been waiting that full year and a half - and longer - to get MW5. Even since just a few months after the steam release to EGS debacle, I've been waiting patiently for my chance to get MW5. Even just an hour ago I decided I would be willing to even pay a premium to get the DLC in addition to any pre-release sale items if there is one.
But this, right here, this will put the kibosh on the entire thing.
The last time I had a MechWarrior single player experience was MW2: Ghost Bear's Legacy, way back in the mid 90s, about 25 years ago. If this is the best I get - an 18-month-delayed title that then forces me to make the brutal choice of supporting a publisher I actively hate - I will pass.
PGI, if you can do without that particular tidbit, I'm down.

Dafuq? Where did you get this information from?
Then forget it. I ain't buying MW5 in Steam if it needs an Epic Account regardless, **** epic and those that enable them.

1 - Was reading through this thread on GOG forums. GOG store page for MW5 the Forums Discussion link takes you to General Discussions because they do not have a dedicated Forum area for MW5 yet. I noticed the thread including mention of a deal with Epic that is supposed to explain how games like Outer Worlds and others came to GOG recently.
2 - So I search for 'outer worlds need epic store account' and find links to articles going back to Sept / Oct last year like this one. Notice in the PCGamesN link a picture of Outer Worlds in the GOG Galaxy launcher specifically on the right side where it mentions needing a Epic Store account and what it says. I searched some of the games mentioned in the article on Steam, I did note Outer Worlds has a EULA in a small area of the right side on its Steam store page mentioning:
Quote
Does not explicitly say EGS but I know other games on Steam that require you to login to a second launcher to run a game such as Ubisoft games thus why I never got a Ubi game on Steam or anywhere else.
3 - I have gone through some of the other game titles mentioned in the PCGamesN article, not seen anything yet stating EGS needed but nothing says it is not and some of those got (SUPRISE!) the same treatment as MW5, Epic got them made into Exclusives delaying their Steam release. The Maneater Steam Discussion has a thread with some really flaming fights over that.
This is all the stuff I am going off of now. I really have not used Epic in a long time since Paragon died. I forget if I played Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 on it or another service, I think it was Origin, since I stopped using several services and products of other companies since last summer.

Hello. No, you will not need an Epic account to buy and/or play MW5 on Steam, GoG, or XBox. Hope that helps!
