Same Tonnage For Is And Clans In Faction Play

So the Cauldron is in the process of making this game and its weapons balanced.

As a conclusion, shouldn't then get IS and Clans the same tonnage for the Faction Play dropship?

For current iteration, sure, why not, sides feel close enough, even giving IS slight advantage.But we will have to see how the game will play out after the mobility changes, before we know if tonnage can be equalized for that iteration as well.

I would prefer to have dropdeck tonage reduced for both sides, I am a bit tired of seeing so many assaults on the battlefield. InnerSphere can spam 3 assaults and a light at the moment. Assaults should be rare IMHO, and medium mechs should be workhorses of the militaries in 31.century. Dropping tonnage down under 220, so clanners should not be able to spam 4 veagles would be a good start. But that is my personal preference, not rooted in any statistics or data.

But, lets see how the games plays out with the mobility changes first. It will not be like prior to skill tree, as back then you had to take huge engine to be able to twist, limiting your weapon payload. Now, you should be able to both twist and take all the firepower you can mount. We live in interesting times for MWO, I'm glad I stuck with it.

I mean i would argue that. The days of being scared the clans are overpowered just because they're clans are long behind us, and with the cauldron doing blanket quirk rebalances, treating these two tech bases as essentially the same makes sense to me.

I'd say 240 tons, so you can do 2 atlas and 2 locusts :D

But unfortunately changing the tonnage limit is work and no FP work this year.

I think 240 is fair - it makes taking a higher ton assault a cost vs a freebie

Back in the day tonnage for IS was 250, and I used to run 1 atlas and 3 Hunchback 4-SP's on Emerald Tiaga.

i think id go for 220 tons, just so taking multiple assaults isnt free.

Would make sense to wait for
  • Mobility pass.
  • Quirk pass.
Before touching anything to see how it plays out. That and PGI have said nothing is really happening in FP soon anyway.

If they can justify an equal tonnage limit, then they can justify making quickplay IS v Clan and adding it to the faction reputation system.

The priority for quickplay is fast matchmaking. That said I think they should find a way to weave it into faction play. Even if it's mixed tech. Maybe daily events that put you on one team or another with the promise of extra rewards? Kind of off topic for this thread, though i think the discussion here was mostly done.

Can you expand on how difficult changing the tonnage limit is for PGI?


Minimum tonnage of 210 tons, so you can't take three lights? :)

Well we've been trying to get the ticket count changed in conquest for at least 2 years, so I don't have much hope for a tonnage change.

But I'd certainly be down for lowering it.

Easier for humanity to build back from the stone age as a result of global nuclear war than for PGI to change 3 digits.

I think some of the people posted here are in the Cauldron or at least close to them.

Let's hope it is on their list after the mobility and the quirk pass.

FP is a long way down PGIs list if things, they have stated it numerous times now.

NPE takes a much larger front seat. Sooner the better on anything relating to it.

New Player Experience.

I mean, as much as I love Community Warfare, and pretty much only play the game for it, and've made two CW help threads... All that aside, even I can understand the need to put NPE first.

They'll trickle into Faction eventually, if we can keep 'em.

Once the PGI mech tweaking is done it might make sense to do the equalization of tonnage between Clans and IS. After watching the FW loading screen for the past month or so, win/loss wise, it currently looks like Clans is holding their own quite well against IS. The tonnage disparity does not appear to be making much of a difference, just the quality of players on any given side and if it is a either a co-ordinated team or just a bunch of Pugs are playing. But for sure maybe something to look into in the future I guess. Cheers!
