Well... it looks good. Here's hoping that it plays good as well. The terrible Canyon Network remake doesn't really leave me particularly hopeful, but at the same time I can't really see a way to make a map as bad as Polar worse.

While I do like that we are seeing reenvisioned maps, I personally had no problem with the old PH map. I too agree that it would be nice to see both maps, old and new, in the rotation. However, the bigger problem IMO is not being able to select the right mech for the selected map. I feel like QP should to be more like faction play (although on a smaller scale) allowing us to decide what mech to bring to the battle AFTER we know which map has been selected. LRM’s are not that hard to counter, if you bring AMS or ECM. Heck it would encourage players to bring support mechs into battle as well. Anyways, appreciate the effort to make QP more interesting. Oh yea, bring back escort…*ducks*.

Why replace maps? Because those maps are bad. They are not adding variety, they are fixing things on poorly made maps, they stated as much. So what would be the point of an UPGRADE, if you just maintain the older, worse version in place?

Bad maps are bad, period, irrespective of your personal feelings towards them. I loved old TT and Alpine peaks is my favorite map ever. But they are bad maps, and they should not return/be upgraded.
I can count with one hand the number of times I died to LRMs on Polar, but still, the map is poorly designed. Keeping it for private matches would be the best solution, but as I said to another user, what's the point of devoting time and resources into an upgrade (and make no mistake, this is intended to be an upgrade, not just an alternate for the sake of variety) if you are letting the worse version linger anyway?

The new map redesign looks promising! Now we will just have to see where the spawns end up, and how mobility/agility will be addressed in the patch. Previous polar highlands involved a lot of walking just to get near domination center or to find the enemy team, hopefully spawns will be moved a bit closer this time lol. I hope assaults get a mobility/climbing pass with the update as there are now quite a few more terrain obstacles to traverse.

Well, it is not yet possible to say anything concrete about it without having tried it, but it cannot be worse than now.

Great update! but still have 1 last question, did you guys shrink the map atleast 30% smaller to the old map? to be frank, running 2-3 minutes first start without seeing enemy is not fun, if you're in assaults this experience will make it worst.

Excited to try the new map! Looks like more verticality and cover, and hopefully the map is also a little smaller (say, 20% to 30%) as CrimsonEye pointed out already.

What's the size relative to the existing version? I'd assume it's the same map just with more terrain features added but you never know

It looks like fun, can't wait to try it. It was the worst map gameplaywise and I'm happy it is changed. I like the changes for CN map so I'm hopeful. One thing I wish we would see more on maps are the hot vapours like we see on Caustic Valley - you need to change the vision mode to see through them and that enhances the gameplay (this is the only time I use night vision).

Hmm I like this. Looking forward to play this hope it goes from worst map to best, and for those who want battletech rules to stay here, we had that for a long time but it just doesn’t work with this type of play. In battletech it had rules mwo doesn’t have and can’t have so it makes for a bad play. This map was to open before and was bad for most players now we all can enjoy it. Nice work guys
