I usually run brawling assaults and damn, I will push. The problem is the team, will they support me? I usually go down in the end, but if the team follows it opens a path for victory. The problem is that most players these days are damage shy. You spray them with a laser and they cower away like its certain death itself.
C'mon, this is to TT, there are no TAC's here. Take some hits if it means we win.

Why would they "push" with you if the enemy has a firing line of good angles on you?

That simply put - very bad gameplay.

Being in Tanky/Brawlers is not just about "push push push" every game. There is a time to go and there is a time to wait. Expecting your team to "push" just because you are is incorrect and often bad gameplay. A very typical mistake "

AND the situation changes very quickly. Was cresting a hill yesterday with another stalker plus a king crab, we burned down the first mech we came across, and on seismic I noticed 4 more around the corner. Turns out there were six. Since I do own a microphone, I call off the push and the stalker and I back off to form a murder box. But try as I might, I could not get the crab to stop pushing.

“Player name, don’t push, too many of them!” Repeat. He didn’t listen. Some players don’t. Dead crab, disconnects.

I need to remind myself often that there's a lot of information to keep track of in MWO and a lot of folks simply can't process communication while trying to juggle other stuff

Oh, its usually good times to push and roll up the enemy, its just some people dont like the idea of being dinged by a few AC rounds on the way in. Too many players are damage-shy.

I and many skilled players have a tendancy to move and/or setup looking 'left' to stop and destroy the incoming rotation 1 by 1.

I would think it is therefore not as much of a brain issue. If it was the better players would all be rotating, which they generally do not do.

I would not mind hearing some of your theories

a lot of American's learned in school that in the revolutionary war the red coats set up firing lines while the rebels stayed behind trees laughing (so to speak)

so you might say its against there nature to form a firing line
if you want to form a firing line don't call it a firing line call it something else

Fun fact, in a nuclear apocalypse most of the fallout and radiation will stay in the hemisphere it originated in due to the Coriolis effect on ocean and wind currents.

Something I really recommend to players who might be struggling, no matter what game you might be playing, is simply playing the top meta builds/strats to get your feet under you. Give this a shot if Nascar is ruining your day.

With the changes to soup queue, maps and weapons, right now and for the foreseeable future, one the most effective/meta strats that is relatively easy to apply is 1. Get a group together of 3 or 4 friends who understand the basics of the game and have some rudimentary knowledge of the maps 2. Watch some YouTube videos to learn all the most effective sniper positions on the maps. 3. Max your group tonnage and use the highest velocity ppfld weapons and maybe some er larges. 4. Take company command and have your team defend the most defensible position where you and your group can provide overwatch. 5. Make sure you crank that sensitivity on your mouse way down. 6. Watch reds not playing the meta strat walk into you and melt.

This is all really basic, easy to do stuff that anyone can learn if they already have the basics of the game down. Even some decent players use this strat if they are really, really, extraordinarily c-bill poor and need to make some money quick. Remember to take those velocity and laser duration nodes to make aiming much easier, and use your mic to help your team focus down targets. This will help you not have to worry about keeping up with Nascar or which direction the enemy might be coming from, just sit back and let them come to you. Sure there are counters to this, as there are to everything, but it is pretty darn effective most of the time and you don't have to think too much at all, because you will know right where to go on every map. Maybe just a hair more thinking than basic Nascar, but that requires no thinking at all.

Stationary sniping may not be the most fun way to play for a lot of people (you basically are turning yourself into a turret at the highest point on the map), but the meta is always a great place to look if you are struggling a little bit until you figure out some other ways that are a little less meta that you might want to try later!! ;)

Hmmm. I often wish I have sound. Would help a lot oftentimes. My only way to communicate is to hit "z" and type (that's my default team-chat button). If play in a group I warn others I have no sound and they type me the necessary things in match. That works. But the same alone in QP or FP, well, glorious death!
Frankly I rarely or never push with assaults. I often forget the basics: SIT AND WAIT! ... Still fight like a clanner: attack and harass my kill no matter what (what? Guess, death)...
I also concerned about the strange Atlases I sometimes met in QP. Those LRM-ing over 1000m distance all match long. I try to get close 800-500 meters to lurm, depends on the terrain, and use my other weapons aswell. I lately love my SNV-A because run-off the missiles it is fun to walk forth and zapping with my 4xMPLs. Useless but funny.

The terrain perhaps? How could you assume a Big, slow brawler assault could be the error? Those are perfect! A brawler Atlas is always good and never fails! Only the terrain may fail to bear such amount of awesomeness!
Frankly?

Without a microphone, I would assume. Its somewhat common, a lot of players play that way.

And totally understandable for the players who aren't fluent in English. If the voice chatter is in English and you're not... its not much use to you. Another casualty of the smaller player base over the years.

My soundcard died. Without it I hardly able to have any sounds. But it had a grim sense of humour...
I bought a PhotoShop CS (what costs about 5-6 months' payment in my country) and the next day the soundcard died. Have none to change so for a while I play without sound. But it's cool to hear classic music while shred giant machines apart Posted Image

No problem with english. But as many players almost as many accents. Something they never taught us in the school that different people speak the words differently. Some accents are terrible and near impossible to understand while others make no real issue. But I often hear german as well what I also speak. And hope I would never hear hungarian because that means rude, offensive comments...

I also need a new one from that to. I used mine only once then someone asked if I belched or what? Really old and really bad, so not helped either...

That's rough. Doesnt your Mainboard have some onboard sound chip? I thought these were pretty standard for at least a decade. Anyway, hope you'll be able to fix that soon.

i often say the first team to stop rotating is the first team to take the advantage. thankfully most of the ne revamps to maps have mad Nasscar a little less frequent on those maps. also don't be afraid to scratch your paint but don't be stupid. if you pop a hill and see more enemies than you you step back and think. also for the sake of the good and fuzzy gods "USE YOUR MINI MAP" its there for a reason.

good to hold small Passes or ridges -Urban Terrain , in all other terrains her is killed from far without each chance for counterattack ,thats like a Brawl/Melee mech against VTOLs or Aerospacefighters or a Knight without Horse against a Archer in 1000m or a single Aircraft Carrier without Support Fleet.

Special Builds only good with Mapselect ,all other is cmost useless ...without Mapselect only Universal Builds good ,thats can fight in each Range without dead empty Waiting time ,who her not can support his team and the Team lost the firepower of one mech the most Time ...a Brawlbuild Assault is the most time 100t useless Firepower.

Yesterday in a Match ,the last Survivor on Rubelite was a Shadowcat with 89% Armor and only 2xLRM15 ...her wait the most time to Targets from the Team and lost fast against 5 enemys with minimal Damage and was lost Tonnage for the team the most Time.

brawl builds are perfectly viable, folks just have to use cover (lol), pay attention to the minimap (lol) and be smart (lol) about when they engage

same goes for any build really. hell even an LRM mech can do some good even on Solaris (especially since they added the flatter direct fire missile trajectory) you just got to know when and where to engage. Solaris is the worst map for LRM in my opinion though Crimson comes in close more because everyone seems to mostly fight in the tunnel or that parking garage-like area. also for your own sake bring some kind of secondary even if its just a pair of MLs, yeah its only 10dmg but thats 10 you wouldn't be able to do when the enemy is under your min range otherwise. i love LRM but most of that is because i am Ex-U.S. Amry Artillery and demolitions specialist, i love my IDF.

every weapon is viable if used right. i'm more of a mid range fighter for the most part so i can do well on just about any map. given how you never really know what map you will get having options is always a good thing.

(as for pressing R your team should be doing that anyway. it doesn't just help LRM/ATM boats for locks but gives vital stats on enemy mechs. does it kill you to press one single button. some times even the best LRM player (one like me who stays with the team and gets own locks when i can) may not always be in a position to get their own locks, not Pressing R takes that potential damage completely out of the match and could cost the team a win. hell i have lost count of the times where a friendly ends up in trouble with no one able to help. if they could press R that LRM boat might gt a few volleys in on their attacker and either help take them out or simply chase them off.

as for those that suicide just because they don't like the map well they can all rot in the deepest pit of hell.
