This is a thread to ask what's good, run ideas by and see if you can talk someone out of a bad purchase, and generally point people in the right direction for the sale. Also feel free to show off whatever you snagged. I already got the Blood Asp and Corsair pack and I need to be talked out of going full whale mode.

The Solaris 7 pack is a lot of bang for your buck even at non-sale price. Seven hero mechs w/bays, some cockpit doodads, a month of premium time... Notably, the Kraken Atlas is more or less equal to any non-hero Atlas, and the S7 pack costs a little less than the Boar's Head Atlas does by itself. Most of the other hero mechs in the pack are at least serviceable, and the Revenant Mad Dog is the only Mad Dog with CT hardpoints (allowing it to mount an impressive 8 energy weapons when combined with the B right and H left arm pods).

That said, the CN9-YLW is still a fun mech, the Warhammer Black Widow and Marauder Bounty Hunter are both solid, the Marauder IIC Scorch is also a strong mech, and the Archer Tempest is a nasty combination of energy weapons, missiles, and ECM.

Buying one or two 275-, 300- or 325-rated Light and Extralight engines could be a good idea, if you have some spare C-Bills.

I'll just point out that the 275XL is generally inferior to the 280XL. There are a few mechs with an engine cap of 275 where it's a viable option; but for those with higher caps, at the same tonnage and comparable c-bill cost the 280XL packs a tiny bit more oomph. Same goes for the 275 and 280 LFEs.

I mentioned them because they are the less expensive option while doing essentially the same job of hiding additional heat sinks in engine. If somebody wants to pay more C-Bills, he can.

The cost difference between 275 and 280 is negligible, especially during an engine sale. The performance difference is negligible too, but given the extra performance comes at a zero cost in weight, it's almost always worth it if you can spring for the 280.

The Incubus pack is also worth bringing up for Collector folks. The INC-1 is an adept little harasser with the best machine gun quirks on the chassis, plenty of energy to open holes for the machine guns, and enough durability to get on with. It's not ZE ABSOLUTE BEST at any one given Incubus build, but it's got enough flexibility in its loadout to do lots of work and manage at least eighty percent of any other Incubus build.

Most of the OmniMech packs, for Collector-inclined folks, are going to be solid choices simply because you can do ninety percent of any build for an OmniMech on the C-bill boosted Collector variant and (literally) profit. Huntsmen, Linebackers, Black Lanners, any of the various tiers of Invasion nonsense - all solid choices.

In terms of regular packs? Three 'Mechs, three 'Mech bays, thirty days of Premium, and a handful of cockpit doodads for fourteen dollars (or basically ten, for light 'Mechs) isn't a terrible buy. Frankly, anything you've been curious on and want a solid sampling of is a decent choice for that price, especially if you don't qualify for a Loyalty reward yet. Whatever that "Ehhh...I wanna try it, but I don't really have the space/cash/space cash..." 'Mech is, now's as good a time as will ever come to pull the trigger if you want it.

No sense in buying an engine of a lower rating that weighs the same.

For some novice cash-strapped player going with the cheaper engine can make sense.

Currently I am sitting on a pile of C-Bills, but I still remember my beginnings when I counted every C-Bill.

We're talking about a price difference of under 100k c-bills, less than the cost of a single MPL. I highly doubt the price difference is going to make or break the bank for anyone. Especially when you just play a match and earn the difference and then some.

The bad thing about purchasing ANY engine will be if it is for isXL instead of LFE. New players may not be aware of the deathtrap isXL are, in that unlink cXL for Clan battlemechs (not omnis) and is LFE, player mech dies immediately when a ST is blown off, whereas that only happens on a cXL or LFE is the player is riding the Heatscale red line....

Heat is always the limit. Hardpoints simulate the cooldown increase because when cooldown goes down the heat goes up
