Before upgrading to Windows 11 I wanted to check and see if any of you know of any issues running the game on Windows 11.

i dont like early adopting new operating systems, it usually takes a couple years in the wild to really start addressing all the bugs.

ms has been allowing everyone to upgrade their os for free since at least windows 7 so long as you have a valid key. they are better off if everyone upgrades as it reduced their support costs. but im going to hold out a year or two at least. frankly im surprised they haven't made the os free to use, because its the windows platform that makes them money, not the os itself. i think the only reason its not is that they make a ton of money from enterprise licensing and doesnt want them cheating by using free personal licenses.

Update went fine. Initial impressions the GUI is more like mac or linux. Game loaded and runs great.

Yeah, I upgraded from Win8 to Win10 free as well. Not sure if I read their info right, but they sound like the free upgrade is also limited.

It looks like MacOS by the looks ofit. Not a fan of that. I even hated how the Win8 had this obstructive Start before.

I might consider upgrading by the end of the year. We'll see.

windows 10 made a company charge for breaking their computer, The security updates could lock you out of your own computer, which happened when the cloud loaded down an old password. Administration is cloudbased and feels most like windows is focusing on a company-platform. If we are going to be truthfully about it is that windows and the OS stopped to be personal after windows 7 and all other OS after since has been in one way or the other Internet based live service in which data is used to profile the user. It's sometimes easy to find this by using keywords too many times result into having advertise based on the words.

In MWO what I experienced is screen tearing, which hasn't been happening recently. and that the game is shutting you down and says you are online when offline. and randomly kicks you out, mostly because of the server.

The game is likely still using directx10, since I got it downloaded while the lowest today for many games is directx12, this maybe not seem like an issue but new OS will eventually have less driver support of older games as the drivers of the new games need to be prioritized. Some games will not work with the drivers provided from steam unless finding it on internet. This can be a positivity for remasters but mostly this is a call of innovative bankruptcy

Does it crash near-instantly after you press the "Play" button in the MWO Portal's interface? If so, then you may have an issue which many others already encountered. Thankfully, a workaround has been found for that one, and so a Thread called "[Fix] Game crashes on Play" (title edited here slightly for double-quote issues) @ https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/281262-fix-game-crashes-on-play/ has been created with information which you can use to get around the issue for now. :)

However 'Darbbo', if that is not enough to fix your problem, or the info is not relevant, then PLEASE CREATE A NEW THREAD so that others can better help you without cluttering up old Threads and the discussions that took place!!! (You have no idea how bad Thread Necromancy is on the internet!!!) <_<

1. Wow, is there a way for MWO to smooth the Win11 installation to be more painless?

2. Windows 10 support ends Oct 2025, presuming no further extension.

[Rant]
As I find that upgrading Win10>>Win11 you are (for now) losing features that matter to me (read: pin-up tiles on Start button),
I'll refrain from upgrading to Win11 until just months before Win10 EoL (End of Life). Just like my upgrade Win7>>Win10, also just months before EoL. Hopefully by then, folks would have figured the Registry hacks to pinning up both Folder/Document files and programs onto the Win11 Startup panel!

EOL of win10 in 2025 only means no new features or security patches. The os will still work just fine just like you can still run win98se and win 7 if you really want to. My old pc is running dual boot with win7 and win98se for the best coverage of older games and programs I still use.

The only issue i had is that i had to do a fresh install of Win11 via DVD bcs somehow my computer did not boot from USB Stick.

Aside of that Win11 runs better for me than Win10, especially my System SSD (Corsair Force MP600 1TB) runs smooth now where Win10 was a stuttery mess - yeah, you have to all the Windows settings again.

I never recommend upgrading an OS - a fresh install is allways better - if you do not want to do it stick with the old system as long as possible.

I upgraded to Windows 11 a month ago or so (around Thanksgiving), and MWO has worked fine so far.

i dont see any reason to early adopt unless you got one of the new intel processors with the e-cores. amd users should probibly wait a year or two.

brand new the 5800x buid sitting in my bench isnt even up to snuff according to ms. though i propbibly just have to enable tpm in the bios to fix that.
