He is already in the Cauldron and has put forward some great suggestions to PGI.

Like all things - it is dependent on resources.

Great news then. As far as resources needed its literally one man with access to the core code who can adjust the lodding and other aspects of the engine to provide the best visual experience on current hardware. No need for artists to make new textures or models or any new content. Just optimize what already exists. My brute force config shows that the engine is still capable of great visuals and not tank performance so core access will allow for even better results.

There seems to be one downside:
When in mech selection screen, the caching makes the game stutter more over time and scroll down the page.

Any now and then I must now restart the client (not every time, but happend 4 times now.

Just a warning as MrVaad hinted before.

Missed this post. Do you have a lot of mechs and have them all displayed at once? I ask as I only have about a dozen mechs displayed and haven't run into any stuttering issues either in the game or in the mechbay. Also I have updated the config one last time so try that and see if it helps. If not then tone down or remove the precache options I have enabled or set up a favorites selection of mechs you regularly use to keep the numbers of displayed mechs down as its possible its maxing out your vram.

edit; Ah I forgot. I was experiencing some stutter both in game and in mechbay but the sys_job variable fixed it by setting it to my physical core count though that might have something to do with the 10th gen intel cpu.

Just for info, all the cache options are enabled by default in stock MWO Posted Image

MWOConfig let you disable some of those options if you want.
I think some of them put too many things in cache. It can slow down the game's start or the map's start.
The inpact can vary depending on your system, so each player can test and choose.

@Meep Meep : The default value for sys_job_system_max_worker is 8 on PC.
And it can't create more workers than your number of logical cores.

Regarding MWO, there's no need to work on the 3D engine's code. I'm almost sure nobody modifies the 3D engine's code in unreal/cryengine/unity (except star citizen Posted Image ).

Many problems can be adressed with the cryengine editor. By working on :
- the map's objects (for example, lod distances are defined per object)
- the particle effects
- the engine's settings
- default cfg values
etc.
But so far, it seems there's no available engineer for that work.

Yes. But again for me personally default stutters now and then and setting it to 6 stops the stutter. Probably something to do with 10th gen intel who knows. ~shrug~

When I was saying core code I mean the stuff we can't access with xml edits from the user side. I wasn't meaning an engine overhaul. Just tweaking whats already there.

If it works, it works !

That's what i suggested. Some fixes/improvements could be done using only the cryengine editor (to edit the available ressources).

If you have more input make the case its probably the most cost effective way of improving the look of the game so its more appealing to new players used to more modern graphics. I'm sure they have an intern wandering around the place they could stick on the project as a learning experience since its simply tweaks of existing assets and not core rewrites that need lots of QA.

Another way would be a paid dlc that has cleaned up textures and materials for a small fee that could generate income for a serious attempt at a graphical upgrade paired with a free update of the better lodding etc of existing assets so everyone could benefit in some way and not seem like a money grab. They are making new mechs so they seem to be at least open to things they can profit from.

The problem is that overhauling textures AND objects is a lot of work, it's not a simple intern job. There's a lot of objects and you need to know your way around 3DStudio/Maya and the cryengine editor.
If you look at the time Skyrim's modders spend (or mw5 ?), it's a lot.

A DLC is problably not doable as it would need some coding.

I suggested/tested smaller edits/fixes. But even changing default cfg values (including some locked settings like the terrain lod) does not seem possible right now.

Well seeing as cleaning up the general look of the game would be mostly edits hopefully they can task someone to do it if the profits are still coming in. Hell its not even a major overhaul since the limited settings I have access to have greatly cleaned up the game and that only took a couple of nights of running around the maps in test mode to see what changed what and if it helped or hurt. Someone with access to the dev tools could do so much more and not have a major time investment as long as the roadmap to what needed to be done was already laid out. Shame as the game has a lot of potential left in it.

Hi,

1. MWOConfig will read the registry first (Launching the repair tool has probably updated your install path there)
2. If registry does not contain MWO's path (steam users for example), MWOConfig will read the path from the game's log.
3. You can overwrite the path by using "MWOInstallPath=" in MWOConfig.ini

  • MWO has since Years lost all Senior Techs for the Cry3
  • EG 7 stops MW5 while not enough Profit
  • EG7 use all talented Specialists from MWO now for her own Projects like LotR
  • we can happy when tormorrow EG7 not shut Down the MWO servers like Battlestar galactica Online (and thats with a greater Community and more Profit)

Maybe they should!

Then something new arise, when the FASA (do they still exist?) don't give IPs and don't support the Devs.

They could even sell it to MS maybe they start over the MW3 Engine and restart from there! And also some new 3D -Person BattleTech Games....

soon it is 2030 ....

Oh by the way,

this game is more dying by CS-PPL playing Mechwarrior!

The moment you read LURMS, I ask myself: He must suck in CS so much, he plays a Light-MG-Mech and chooses every time City or Rubilit map!

This is more toxic than my insults...

in the end the game has come to a stall, by ATMs, SMRs and MMRs in MEELEE >> CS the fast ones win always !

But the Cry is high about LRMs

What do you tweak here when the cause of your FPS drop is you getting shot by the enemy?

Particle quality is usually the culprit if its happening when you get a lot of explosions being rendered in front of your cockpit from lrm or spammed ac.

Set this line to 1 if its higher than 1: e_ParticlesQuality=1

Although if you've set the particle setting to LOW in the game, you already have e_ParticlesQuality=1.
