Hi all, been playing for a few weeks with my 8 year old son and we're having a lot of fun, despite mostly getting destroyed. Posted Image Didn't think my first post here would be such an odd one, but today he and I both received an account injection, which included a mech. I didn't notice what mech he got, but I got an Urbanmech UM-R80L. I wanted to look this up to see what kind of loadouts folks were running, but it seems to be a ghost...no mention of it anywhere online, and it's not even in the list of mechs to buy. Is it just that new?

Also curious what triggered this account "injection", not that I'm complaining. Posted Image I assume it's for an event currently going on, but not sure which.

Matt

Check this post, please:2021 MECHWARRIOR ONLINE ANNUAL REWARDS PROGRAM

You bought a 'Mech Pack during the last 12 months (or something similar) and thus PGI gave you a 'Mech yesterday.

Here you can check details: 2021 MechWarrior Online Annual Rewards

Hello and welcome!

You and your son qualified for at least one of these https://mwomercs.com...ewards-program/

In regards to the Urbie, it's a brand new variant. People will have to experiment and build in the days and weeks to come.
So far, I've settled for 3 LPPC, ECM and the ridiculous amount of 6 Jump Jets for the "Fat Spider Experience".

In my case, I've decided to settle with 2xLPPC, 3xERSL, ECM & Stealth Armor, along with LFE, since I didn't had cash for XL, and that one was just lingering in warehouse Posted Image

And don't forget that engines are on sale right now, 50% off cbills in mechlab. Buy some common sizes while the price is low!

Not to worry, the Standard Variant (aka CBills version) UM-R80L with ECM should come out in a few months time...
(my own personal guess: 3 months time?)

i will definitely be getting that R80 when i can get it for C-bills. (i only qualified for the base reward for just playing and the Atlas since i won the Striker Pack during a forum competition give-a-way someone did. thanks again to that person)

i can't wait to do my annoyance Urbie build with ECM, wont likely be as fast as my standard annoyance Urbi but still 3 L-PPC and some MGs if it has ballistic slots (i haven't looked at it since i didn't qualify for it)

but yeah every year PGI gives out free rewards for playing the game as well as mechs if you bought something. get ready for x-mas as well, they give a free mech then as wells (might even have extra free mechs if play on x-mas day)

Thanks folks, clears that right up! Though I'm not sure why I didn't get the Prime reward...bought a mech just a couple weeks ago.

The Urbie seems awfully slow for a light mech.....maybe they expect you to swap out the engine right away? I look forward to experimenting with it, have not tried a light yet.

The engine swap is a very common upgrade that the players do.

Some would say it's mandatory. The Urbie made it into this game as an April's fool joke at first, because even in Battletech Lore it moves at memeworthy speeds. Since then it has become one of the most popular and tough 30t mechs.

I guess that 99% of players use a different engine, but there are some players on the forums who said that they play with stock or almost stock 'Mechs.

Which, where and how?
Buying mechs in the in-game store doesn't count, and neither did the very old packs (pre-dating the current $20 defauly pricing scheme) nor the individual Reinforcement mechs from the gift shop. Further, if you gifted someone (eg your son) a pack, then the giftee receives the loyalty reward for it, not you.

the Urbie is a great little mech, and yes its Lore base speed is meme worthy slow. keep in mind though that it didn't really need to be fast. in Lore is was built with Urban combat and defense in mind. within the confines of a city speed isn't as important. they would hide until an enemy went past then would pop out and put that big ol' AC/20 into their back before fading back behind another building before they could turn around. also with 360 torso twist arc they can run away (or rather waddle) at full speed while still firing all weapons.

same goes for the Annihilator, it was so slow because it was meant for base/city defense.

These are the main fits I've settled on depending on my mood.

Mid range skirmisher.

Posted Image

Long range ppc slinger with some poptarting on the side.

Posted Image

Or just the plain ole classic k9 pulse fit.

Posted Image

All of them are fun.

OK, that explains the oh-so-slow Urbie deal. I might try it again with a massive engine upgrade. This thing is just silly as it sits right now, except on the off-chance that I happen to be on Solaris City.

I bought a mech in-game with cbills....is this not the same as "MWO"? I mean, MWO is the game....I emailed support about it. I did buy a hero mech with MC through the in-game browser at some point, will have to check and see if it was before or after the event.

The annual rewards program - apart from the "Active Player Reward" - benefit only those who put real money into the game over the course of a year. Things you buy ingame do not count towards the eligibility for the rewards.

Your Urbie will gain a lot of speed with the larger engine and it will be useful even outside the Solaris City.

Please re-read my post #2 and check those links (the second one, especially). There you can read exactly what actions would net you those Loyalty 'Mechs. Essentially, the point is buying 'Mechs and MCs for cash, not for C-Bills.

C-Bill purchases do not count for the loyalty program, and neither does spending MC you already had - only cash purchases do.

For what it's worth, you'll be able to but a Standard version of the chassis for C-Bills in a few months. It won't have the custom camo or the C-Bill boost though.
