I just spent days on trying to find just the right build for my Huntsman that suits me, I've gone through every type of laser and missile until I yesterday I finally swapped out the ATMs and replaced them with C-streaks, I went from doing really rubbish damage to now doing acceptable to really good damage, like between 400-700 and I now no longer need to worry about sodding lights in fact I actively hunt those little sods :D

It feels so great when you hit upon a build that works for you, I didn't want to look up a build I wanted to feel around for what would be good for me, I enjoy trying that.

I hope your light-hunting luck holds! Maintaining a lock is the tricky part, but if you can manage that, streaks are a good weapon system. Not the best at fragging lights, but darn solid.

I love it when a build just *clicks* with me, it's one of the most satisfying things in the game. The first and most significant example for me was the Blackjack BJ-1 with an upgraded stock build, the first handful of games with it were just so comfortable and easy for me to play.

Congrats.

However, Clan Streak SRMs are less useful against heavier 'Mechs, especially if they are fresh or almost fresh.

Yeah need to come at big guys from a weaker direction for them.

Just had a game on canyon, defended the left hand side canyon with some help, destroyed I think a locust and a shadowcat and helped with a viper, took all my weapons but 2 c-streaks went on to try and fight a hunchback lasted a bit, was a pain when he overheated and I couldn't shoot at him lol still did well in that game though, it's really enjoyable and it really scratches the itch of seeing lights running around peoples legs for so long and being unable to do anything, the Huntsman has really earnt it's name now Posted Image

The Clans have only a half of the Inner Sphere's range of medium 'Mechs, but fortunately, the Huntsman is a well-rounded OmniMech. Posted Image

Yeah I want a good ecm medium, I'm getting the predator pack so will have the shadow cat from that. I have a Hellbringer and a Kitfox and will also be getting that Blood Asp for the assault. I like changing things up, I watched a video the other day and the guy said it's pointless having ecm if you don't get the two improved ecm from the skills, I hadn't done that before but noticed a big difference when next I tried my Kitfox and Hellbringer.

Well done op! You are a great example of, what IMO, is how best to enjoy quick play: prioritize finding a build that best suits how you like to play, and simply let PSR/Tier fall where they may. The alternative of focusing on the latter is a great cause of misery for many.

congrats if you found a build that works for you *no buts, just enjoy*

just a note; well armored mechs will hm.. make your enjoyment harder. as will ecm-mechs
or let's say a mech with both;
anyway: in case you're not satisfied by your streaks anymore, try a 6xsrm6a huntsman.
it is SO. MUCH. FUN Posted Image

Good on ya, Will. Heh, I feel exactly the same way about Spicy Lady, my Invasion TBR. When I settled on this build, no matter how much it makes the meta folks' hair curl, it just felt right. It felt proper. This was the way it was always meant to be built and now that I've gotten that figured out, Spicy Lady will give me the best games she possibly can provided I don't fail her by being a **** pilot. Doesn't matter that heavy lasers suck. Doesn't matter that LRMs suck. Doesn't matter that flamers are memes. This is what the girl was meant to look like, and she'll match me point for point if I'm on my game. Just suits me down to my toes, and to Gehenna with whatever anybody else thinks.

Sadly too many players buy into meta and top-tier builds thinking this is how it's done...

Much has to do with the fit of the mech to the player as it does with overall skill. Meta mechs don't make a poor pilot good. In fact, often a meta mech actually makes the player worse.

It took me years and a lot of trial and error to pinpoint the specific mechs and loadouts that fit me, my skillset and playing style.

Now I have a stable of mechs that would make top-tier players wince... that said, they work perfectly for "me" and that's all that matters. Posted Image

Yeah mech lab is half the fun.
If you like streaks, maybe try SRMs w/ artemis. You could free up some tonnage and shoot when you want to, not just when your lock on will allow you to.

Love it when you find an “odd” build that works for you.

It’s like my MAL-MX90. I tried the “load it up with AC2s or RAC2s” meta builds but hated it. Eventually settled on a 2xLPPC, 50xMRM, 6xLMG build and I love it.

Get under 600m and I’m shredding anything that moves - of course getting within 600m can be an issue but them’s the breaks.

Aye. Not that I'm able to play Assaults for crap anymore, but back when I could my Stalker Misery worked well for me despite being very short-ranged. A single LRM-20 to irritate people with, then a LPL, then a stack of MPLs - and of course the AC/20.
It was just counter to everything a Stalker should be so lights would run right up in my face and stop to aim at me.

Blap blap blap BOOM.

"Misery" has got some nice ballistic (and other) quirks - you do not have to use AC-20. What about UAC-20? Or - if you want something with more range - Gauss Rifle or Heavy Gauss Rifle?

True, but the AC/20 is what I had on it then. My capabilities with long-range direct fire weapons are, shall we say, somewhat lacking. I'm still training on getting full use out of the super zoom from skill points - been somewhat good for me on a Stormcrow which is a bit more nimble when it comes to changing location.

Yeah, the Stormcrow is a good 'Mech. But the Stalker can pack a serious firepower.

The Stalker STK-7D(S) packs serious, high-up laser vomit power, IS laser pinpoint damage, and navigates like a Clan mech...
it's slightly better than the famous (or infamous) MAD-IIC(S) for laser vomit...

And the Stormcrow is good, need to keep moving though...
I've personally seen a returning MWO veteran last year used a Stormcrow laser vomit, and single handedly turned our game around into a win! (I happened to spectate in his cockpit for half the game).

He had 4 kills, 1600 damage, and match score just under 1000 in a T5 game.
The Stormcrow is that good!
