Increasing TTK would be better for the game overall.

Average match time has had a noticeable increase last time PGI advised it.

When you combine that with lots of mechs having solid survival increases I would place a fair stab that the match time has gone up even further.

I notice a lot of mechs I run now are surviving a long longer than they have ever since I started place in 2015.

Like the Atlas has almost as good mobilty as ever and much much more armour especially once combined with skill tree (if you do it right). So the 'power creep', which is arguable, has also been balanced out by 'survival creep' via skills and Cauldron across-the-board buffs.

Also remembering Cauldron still hasn't finished with mechs. 3-4 months to go yet before chassis are all done and then can look at what needs more tweaks etc.

I can say , its Way more Fun now,

You see alot of different Mech who werent Playable back in the days, and all kind of different Loadouts thanks to the Rebalance of Weapons and requirkening.

I realy enjoy the game now.

The question is why has the average match time increased?!

Is it because Mechs can take more damage or is it bcs people have become more timid, reluctant to begin fighting, have llower range Mechs become useless in earlier stages of the gameplay so their firepower is only available in later game stages etc.?

The TK time fact itself is a usesless statistic!

If by more timid you mean players have stopped YOLOing across open ground in brawlers and just destroying people because they can now be stopped or more-so deterred better, by longer range options - then ye, I'd agree there.

Does that mean TTK is lower though? No.

I certainly haven't felt TTK to be lower at all. If I make a bad play then I get yeeted by 3-4 mechs looking at me in the same speed thats always happened because no mech was going to survive that pre OR post cauldron.

When exactly have been brawlers an issue during the last years? Brawling is in most cases a death sentence and not rewarding. Even if you get close to an isolated mech, you get targeted by 242654 missiles, plus a brawler will nearly always take some damage and has to handle his heat. As a sniper you can make favourable trade, cool down etc

Where exactly did I say it was an issue?

Brawling was very strong pre-cauldron as mech mobility was completely rubbish so spreading damage was quite a bit harder for most mechs.

Now with a bit more range(d) options available a Brawler can't just YOLO in anymore which was exactly what you used to be able to do quite effectively. You could do this as there was nothing at real range save for cERPPC (with a large cooldown) to make you think twice about it so you could just eat any incoming damage without much concern.

Now there is a bit more power at range, Brawling is much more about picking your time to go correctly along with smarter map positioning.

Make maps +20% bigger (including the rocks that hide the mechs)?
That's a brilliant idea!

https://mwomercs.com...-mark-nicholson
MWO designer in recent above post discussed the airplane wing bolt-on for the upcoming Shadow Cat SHC-D Predator Booster Pack, there's no hint of any rescaling at all. In fact, the discussion seem to assume that mech sizes remain the same going forward.

In fact, MWO had never promised any mech rescaling thus far (since Daeron came aboard Sept 2021).

I feel that making maps +20% bigger is a brilliant idea, so that bigger mechs can hide behind rocks again!

Not needed make Clan lasers the same ranges as IS lasers.. and make all ppcs 900 meters.

Most 30 and especially 35t mechs are in a sorry state agility-wise. I really hope they look into the mechs' attributes once more

What? I find lights to be quite playable right now. Also the FS9 (a 35 tonner) is the best light in the game right now

EG 7 has now canceled all Support and Future for MW5, bring not enough Profit, the PGI Team is now use (the talented Guys) for other Projects like Lord of the Rings for EG7...EG7 buy studios, close her when not enough Money for him and his Shareholders and use the Know How for own interests ..so im see the same Future for MWO like BVattlestar Galactica Online ,as EG7 buy Bigpoint and close the Servers

Ok, the Wolfhound drives like a truck for example, even a Wolverine seems to turn smoother

The WLF has much better agility stats than the WVR and its stats are comparable to the FS9.

Maybe there was a change again. I haven't played for years and when I came back most heavy lights feel like trucks

There was an agility pass last year. If you're relying on any experiences pre-April '21 you're out of date.

Thanks for the info, Brauer. Indeed, I haven't known of this. Is there a comprehensive list somewhere or can you remember how the thread was called so I can read it up?

I took a long break before this whole cauldron patches started, so I'm thinking if I should wait until they're done "refreshing" the game, so how long do you thing it will take? IIRC there were plans for a round of weapons changes, mobility, quirks and scale changes. Is it still the roadmap?

And in general, do you feel it's better or worse than ~1y ago?

No candy coating, here's the facts:

It will never get any better. This game is on the steep decline. Fun factor almost completely gone save the 1 out of 25 matches that actually develops into a good fun challenging experience and even then its over so fast its almost like it never happened. Sinper gameplay starting to surge, new maps are trash, just remakes of existing maps that look worse. No evolution whatsoever. cauldron cherry picking mechs and weapons for buffs and nerfs according to what THEY want regardless of balance repercussions.

Something around a thousand players worldwide on Steam at peak times should really reveal where things are going. I also want to point out that the whole idea of pgi doing another re-scale was used only to dupe the community into being more accepting of the cauldron takeover. There will be no re-scale. Even if there was, pgi has proven on multiple occasions they do not understand ANYTHING Mechwarrior and not even something as simple as the size of mechs. They failed at the last 2 re-scales and another would just be a hat trick for them.

Add to that cauldron alluding that they are making all these changes for the better of everyone and that later when (if?) a re-scale comes, it will bring things into balance. lol... All you need to pay attention to is that they threw in an "if" in there. That tells us everything. Yet they seriously want us to believe they are making these changes to improve the game with the final puzzle piece being the re-scale but that is not going to happen so....yea

Its all an illusion. if you want to play then just load the game up and go at it. Personally i wouldn't, it just gives them the credit for an additional player being logged in. Its never going to improve at this point. We are over a decade into this thing born out of lust for $$$ and it has gone absolutely nowhere. Broken no new ground. Innovated nothing in the last 10 years. Previous mech titles absolutely curb stomp this abomination.

The patch notes from April '20 to present are the ones to look at. You can find them all here I think: https://mwomercs.com/game/patch-notes

Happy reading!

Steam is only a part of the active playerbase and not a large part at that. I can get fast matches at pretty much any time of the day though the very first match can sometimes take a couple of minutes. Thats on par with games that have far larger activity.

My biggest gripe with the game are the aging visuals which were not all that great to begin with due to poor optimizing and lodding. The textures and effects are all still fine but since the game was made for hardware near a decade old even max settings barely make use of them always inserting crappier lower detail textures at too close a range and reducing terrain quality far to early. Luckily MrVaad has made a settings configurator that allows you to brute force some of that so its always running max details but its still a brute force approach that can degrade performance on lower spec systems and some dev love by editing the core code would produce much better results with a lower performance cap.

I agree with the vast majority of your post. I will point out that pgi has done ONLY ONE rescale. It was in 2016. That's when I quit playing. ASH has constantly waved that re-scale carrot around in a light of light mech threads but no offical date from pgi itself ever comes. So until AN OFFICIAL PGI post give AN EXACT DATE never expect a second re-scale. Even if they did just look at how bad they did the first one and expect much much worse.

Now if a 2nd re-scale actually happened that wasn't furbar to where the is jenners ( Non-Oxide) were capable of taking down their own weight class I'd eagerly start playing the game again and spending money to get the last few is light hero mechs even the shity ones like the ansi or fle one.

For me as a primarily Assault and Heavy pilot i'd say its much worse.

The constant nerfs on Armour and the boosts to lights and poking weapons have made playing those mechs far far harder and far slower.. The early nerfs on looking up and down years ago really destroyed mobility and now with the power creep from the cauldron didn't help.

Honestly lights and mediums have it way better these days. Not saying you cannot play them and have good matches but its way less chances these days.

Lights? You mean the class which has received the most direct and indirect nerfs over the years?
Tip: Shoot the legs instead of spraying lasers over all torsi
