I took a long break before this whole cauldron patches started, so I'm thinking if I should wait until they're done "refreshing" the game, so how long do you thing it will take? IIRC there were plans for a round of weapons changes, mobility, quirks and scale changes. Is it still the roadmap?

And in general, do you feel it's better or worse than ~1y ago?

I haven't played for 2 years and came back ca. 3 weeks ago.

What's positive: the LPPC change, removing the minimum range makes it accessible for light mechs as well

What's negative: the game totally changed. Before you had some sniping, some brawling and mostly mid-range fights. Now you have a lot of fights where peeps sling lasers and LRMs across half the map. I haven't seen much brawling anymore and mid-range fights usually happen when one side feels that it loses the whack-a-mole game.

Also, playing lights is a much bigger pain in the ***. If you shoot at someone with your close-range weapons (yay!) they get assisted not only by lrms but also by laser vomit across half the map

Overall: Negative.
It feels as if the long-range laser vomit dominates the game and other playstyles got culled.
The same goes for mech diversity. The tendency of bigger is better was aplified because the fatties can pack groups of long-range weapons

My hopes:
1. agility quirks for the bigger lights
2. making lights more viable again in general - maybe through quirking (currently it is often better to play a fast medium than a 35t light)
3. Getting brawling and more mid-range fights going again. How? No idea. Perhaps with various sensor ranges according to weight class (that would also help with no. 2 because lights were later detected)

In fact, MWO had never promised any mech rescaling thus far (since Daeron came aboard Sept 2021).
[Redacted]

The roadmap for last year promised that rescale would happen in the second quarter of last year (between April and June).
"Improve 'Mechs Scale (for fun and role vs volumetric)"

The vast majority of the roadmap for last year wasn't met, including the separation of queues. Other than some map updates and selling some new mech packs, they didn't really do anything that wasn't just tweaking numbers given to them by the Cauldron. They've stated that there will be a new roadmap at the end of February, however I expect that it will similarly just be a bunch of BS to try to get slightly fewer people to leave.

According to Phil (Sean Lang), both Daeron and Matt are only working on MWO part-time and Francois and Mark were the only employees working full time on MWO for the majority of last year. Phil mentioned that they were supposedly planning on hiring a third employee to work on the game full time near the end of last year, but I don't know whether or not that actually happened. From the tiny amount of work that happened last year, I wasn't surprised to hear how ridiculously understaffed the game is. I'm not blaming Daeron, Matt, Mark, or Francois for how little has been done; they're doing their best with the absurdly low amount of resources that PGI is giving them.

Also, Daeron came aboard in September of 2020, not 2021. I expect that was just a typo on your end though.

Do you know by chance how long PGI has the MW license? I mean, the company seems to leave the game in an undead state and most likely are focusing on other projects

Until 2024 or 2025. They renewed the licence for 5 years on 2019.
