Okay... I'm no pro. I'm an above-average-solo-player-who's-been-around-the-block. Posted Image

Seriously though, as a general rule, even more so in events like this that have a LRM component to them... Kill the damn UAVs.

You wonder why LRMs are swarming you like gnats in May?... UAV.

You wonder why when you peek and poke and get focused as soon as you clear terrain?... UAV.

You wonder why you get light wolf packed?... UAV.

IMHO, particularly in lower-tier play. UAVs can make or break your success. Yet time and time again, I see them ignored.

I go out of my way to kill UAVs... I even go so far as to break off engagement to kill them. Pursuit of that "one kill" is not worth exposing "you" and your team.

There... That's my soapbox prattle for today. Posted Image

There's a short guide on how to shoot down UAV:
https://mwomercs.com...-shoot-down-uav

Think T1 and perhaps T2 fights, players do not bother to shoot down UAV, as shooting down UAV means less shots at enemy at a crucial time...

I don't know about you but in my T1 matches UAVs drop like flies and pretty damn quickly usually. Sure sometimes about whole team happens to be cramped up under it and it's pretty damn hard to shoot down something you can't get LOS.

I like to bring arm mounted secondary weapons just so I can reach UAVs, usually a pair or medium lasers or even a LPPC or two if it fits the build. Gotta watch out for my torso-weapons-only teammates.

its good target practice and free points. i think players are in 2 camps usually:

players who cannot hit the uav, either through lack of skill or loadout deficiencies (outside firing arcs) or through bad positioning (too close or too far).

those who can delete four of them in fewer seconds.

The trick to deploying a good uav is to get as close to their pack as possible so that none of them can aim up far enough to zap it. The dummies that pop one out at the edges of the fight are the ones that get shot down in a wink.

Thus far... My match record is 5 UAVs.

This was on Alpine so it was like shooting ducks. lol

Sigh...

Just died and observed a match where a player peek/poking and was getting focused every time he popped up and died unceremoniously in a matter of minutes.

On comms, he went on a verbal tirade about the state of the game, snipers... groups... hax... You name it.

Guess what... There were two UAVs above him and the enemy team KNEW where he was and where he repositioned every freaking time. (Add to the fact that when he repositioned he only moved like 20 meters didn't help his cause..)

I felt dirty watching the player struggle... Posted Image

This thread is a good reminder for people. It is mind-blowing how in most games I play I am the only player shooting down UAVs, or else always the first to notice them and shoot them down. This is in games with many T1 players. Look up, guys ;)

The Academy really does only provide “fundamentals for the fundamentals”. There really should be a Phase 2 of The Academy which gets into the actual fundamentals of the game, pretty sure other games with steeper learning curves do this… maybe in MWO2.

Only if you are running a Beagle Active Probe or a Clan Active Probe (regular or light) and then only within the detection range of the device.

And something worth pointing out to everyone, because even though some of you may know this, it happens that not everyone does... If for any reason you can not hit the Enemy UAV yourself, then at least get your Arm Cursor pointed upon the Enemy UAV long enough to use the Command Wheel and signal an "Enemy Spotted" to Your Team which will then mark the Enemy UAV long enough for someone to look for it and blow it out of the sky. And of course, don't forget to talk about it on In-Game VoIP with your Microphone if you have one, telling Your Team that you're unable to shoot it yourself. :D

It is infuriating when you play a light mech with 130m-ish weapon range and the UAV is 350m away. You tell your team on chat that they should shoot it down...all the while swarms of lrms rain down and you see one mech die after the other - and the UAV is still up.

What helps a little bit is firing at the UAV despite it is out of range. Now and then someone apes your actions...
