I haven't played the last few months, but since playing today I've noticed a significant decrease in performance that is almost unplayable on some more intensive maps. My usual framerate was 60 - 80 FPS during matches with occasional frame drops here and there. Now it's been 30 - 50, sometimes 20 - 40 with frame drops low enough to affect my aim and make it unpleasant to look at.

Computer is well over the recommended system requirements, temperatures are within normal bounds, and just did clean install when updating graphics drivers today with no effect. All video settings within MWO are minimum.

(Conversely and predictably, playing on testing grounds has no such issues, with a consistent 100 - 130 FPS and frame drops become minimal or non-existent after the first minute of entering)

Is this a problem with an update perhaps? I don't know what's going on, I haven't been around much.

Update:
I've realized that a significant amount of frame loss occurs when the camera is in first person cockpit view. My framerate is around 70 - 80 outside the cockpit if I use say, 3rd person camera or I'm viewing my own death. In 1st person, it drops by about 30 - 50.

Update 2:
Going through some hardware upgrades lately. Not directly because of MWO but so far performance has been better and actually playable. New processor is coming, should boost performance even further. That said it doesn't resolve the issue with MWO performing bad in the first place, but no foreseeable solution to that anyway.

No issues.

1. Provide system details. and desktop or laptop?
2. System Power options, set to High Performance.
3. Do you have any type of sound mod installed for MWO?
4. And last time heatsinks (computer :) ) were cleared out - temps can be normal for the most part, but all it takes is temp to exceed threshold for CPU speed to drop.

Noted your MWO FPS drops during fighting...

Suggest these, as helpful to me:

1) Set your MWO game client Settings to:

in [Video]:
1280x720 DPI, and
[Full_Window]

2) in [Video]>>[Advanced]:

[Particles]=Low
[Environment]=Low

3) You can also try adjusting your User.cfg via Mr. Vaad's instructions (worked wonders for me!):

Good luck!

1. Desktop
2. Already set
3. I do. I have MechWarrior 3 sound mods installed which are admittedly pretty old, but they were installed for quite some time with no issue. I also have "chonky guns" sound installed, just makes the cannons more lively.
4. Heat sink is entirely new, only a few months old along with new ram which was installed the same day. I tested MWO as well and it worked as normal.

Trying the .cfg files now, I'll give an update on how it works out.

Okay, performance wise I think there is no improvement, and whether or not I installed it correctly can wait because I've realized that a significant amount of frame loss occurs when the camera is in first person cockpit view. My framerate is around 70 - 80 outside the cockpit if I use say, 3rd person camera or I'm viewing my own death. In 1st person, it drops by about 30 - 50.

What matters for MWO is the CPU speed, and not the GPU...
(I found this out the hard way, after computer hardware upgrade!)

1. Uncheck - Enable Cockpit monitors since there is a FPS difference between in cockpit and 3rd person view
2. Sound drivers issues can also frak with FPS, and not just with this game.
3. Did you play the game without the sound mods at all and got the same results? Remove mod and test
4. no Dxdiag or anything to see what system setup using
5. Uninstall sound drivers, and reinstall drivers. Also dependent on setup if WIndows update is set to allow MS to install/update drivers, said install can frak up. This would be for any drivers, even GPU and sound (can check history for any driver updates).

Edit - And if the issue is due to a Window update or another driver update performed by Windows update, rolling back a Windows update could potentially resolve the issue for the time being... though it could end up being a temporary fix until the next Windows update without further research.

Turn off cockpit glass and play around with the other graphical settings. This game does not run near as well as it should on probably any computer. I don't know if this is still true, but it used to perform worse on AMD processors (but that was before Ryzen).

Looks like my recent computer upgrades have been helping with this. A new processor will be the final piece of the puzzle and should make MWO as smooth as butter. Well, at least as smooth of butter as I can get it.
