8v8 Quick Play weekend experiment ? Always good to run an experiment, I like this!

8v8 Quick Play with groups of 2 allowed? I think that would be acceptable

8v8 Quick Play with groups of 4 allowed? That is going to be a little on the tough side for folks who drop solo.

8v8 Group Queue ?? OMFG YES PLEASE! (I know that's not on the cards for this weekend, but a man can dream can't he?)

Thank you PGI, the matches go a bit faster, and it's more intense, as we no longer have 4 scrubs to use for meat shields. 8-)

Oh ****, I didn't account for the reduced number of people in a match being terrible for players who use their team mates as meat shields. LMAO, that's the only thing that's different really in an 8v8 match; if you were competent in 12v12 then why would an equal reduction of both sides assets make the game unplayable? UNLESS it's cause you'll run out of bodies to throw in the enemies way faster with fewer people on your team......hahahaha

There is (or was?) 4v4, and everybody hates it: scouting.

8v8 is a step towards that. It is as quick as it is dull and boring, plus even more unbalanced thanks to 4 premades.

Not really; 4v4 was poop because the tonnage was limited to just mediums.

If it was expanded beyond that and to maps that didn't require you to DURR HURR PEPEGA RUSH halfway across the map for makers maybe it'd be more interesting.

Fast and furious. Less time for strategy but when was the last time you were on a team capable of that, anyway? Smaller teams means less dead weight--Maybe it will help alleviate the chronic blight of self-serving assaults whose habitual tactic is lurking until the match is half over, then wading in hoping for easy kills.

It's a different game, for certain, and will take some getting used to.

Battle time = same
Damage dealt = same
Light mechs = less
8 vs 8 = PROFIT

Also, my research says that it is impossible for one single person to influence the outcome whatever the game mode is played while 8 vs 8.

Take a look at the top left of the first screenshot. It is said, that Orion-M can deal 851 dmg in less 3 minutes since the start that is extreme, and it is still not a victory.

At the second screenshot, you can see that whole Blue team is dead at 9:30 (5:30 minutes since the start).

Third screenshot shows that total damage that was dealt by Blue team is 3669. Red team total damage is 2598.

So, we the Blue team, lose not because the map is hot (Blue team has done more damage) and not because of game mode (Blue team was winning this by points until all of team mates were killed).

Fourth screenshot shows that Red team just got lucky, and I welcome this.

This all demonstrates that 8 vs 8 is cool.

Here are the screenshots:

Matchmaking is no faster.
And now when you get DCs and sleepers they are an ever larger portion of your force.

Remember when this game was going to be an MMO and then all the people who got mad and left when it became a moba?

This is just the further progression of that strand of thought.

And it is bad. Especially during an event.

Not a big fan. If anything, maybe try 16 v 16? Or 20 v 20? In the day used to play Tribes 2 servers featuring 32 players v 32. That was intense.

I'm going to get straight to the point. If you want to maintain or grow the player base for this fantastic game you simply need to

JUST FIX THE BROKEN QUICK-PLAY MATCH-MAKER

If you want to do 8v8 why not just do comp?

seems to have made games faster but less tactical and you should increase the penalties for AFK going 1 man down early makes a big difference , good as an another play option though

As long as it doesn't become a "permanent default" thing, I'm ok with it.

If it's to become a permanent thing, it should be a choice in the under the Quick play button. (like scouting is in faction play)
and not replace current 12v12.

and if anything, after 8v8 is added, go add 4v4, so we have battles from Lance Skirmishes to Company size objectives fights,

Just my two cents :)

Regardless of whether this ends up a permanent thing down the line or just one weird weekend, I like that they're doing this, trying out something new(ish), experimenting, testing to see if this'll deliver a better playing experience.

I've only played 4 of them so far so I'm not yet sure if I like it, but I did feel more pressure than before to not screw up, which might be a good thing. On the other hand, felt nervous about going in with a light mech because of possible tonnage disparity -- first 8v8 game I played my team's heaviest mechs were a 60- and 65-tonner while enemy had an atlas and corsair.

Seems like one player can heavily influence the match one way or another, more so than before.

4v4 skirmish or larger domination circle would be fine and fun.... collecting **** and smokediving is something that people hate

Hello all,

So, I've dropped in a few matches 8v8. I will have to readjust to the pace and/or builds of this new mode. Not a game-breaker for me in itself but it will be a little difficult dealing with comp players who are used to running 8-man teams and strats so that adjustment will take longer than it really should.

I hope some comp streamers will put out some videos on optimizing mechs/strats for this new mode for those of us more used to 12v12.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky
