Balance even tilts more favorably towards the more risky playstyles like brawling. It's much easier to find approach angles in brawlers with 8v8.

I think I'll have to play tonight and see how it feels. I am attracted to the theoretical lower TTK from having fewer mechs on the field.
And the classic maps should be more fun too.

The only folk who want it appear to be the vocal minority who live in years gone by when it was a thing but was replaced by 12v12 to improve player engagement and enjoyment and for some reason, their rose tinted glasses continue to obscure the popular demand. I say that having looked back at the threads and it ends up only being roughly 1:7 in favour and always the same people. Now that figure is likely to be adrift because I haven't the heart to keep going back, but I believe it is relatively representative.
8v8 over a weekend on an event period is just amazing(ly) badly thought out thing to do. Weekend, people can download other games or even go out with real life people now that lockdowns have been lifted as opposed to playing MWO, not that there will be a bigger pool to try and justify something that is generally not wanted.. I will say though, it is a 10/10 for effort in alienating your non-competitive audience and casual player base.

Matches seem to go faster too, it's quicker to engage and over faster. I've also noticed some other issues as well, frequent tonnage disparity and the devastating effect of a four man group in QP. AFKs and disconnects now have a much more significant affect as well. One player down in 12v12 is a hindrance but losing one out of eight is much more of an issue. And if that one player is your only assault it's a game changer.
I think 8v8 is like a distillation process, everything gets concentrated. The matchmaker flaws/tier discrepancies become much more determinate in who wins. The tonnage balance becomes more critical and again matchmaker flaws in that regard also greatly affect the outcome. Four man groups that are a third of the team in 12v12 with 8 other players able to contribute or have an effect on the outcome are now half the team and far more determinant on the outcome.
8v8 is definitely interesting and has potential. It's more what the idea of 'quick play' is to me, shorter wait times and faster game play. There are just some problems that while existent in 12v12 become much more necessary to address with 8v8.

While many players dislike the current version of 8v8, I believe we should all play some matches this weekend so the data sample is big enough to draw some conclusions.
Good hunting,

YES, play a few then bail. That way they get the data and also see numbers drop and get the message.

When you inadvertently admit that the game is unbalanced, the conversation is over, so why don't you stop talking?
You, by the way, think you can just stick it out a few days and be done with it?
As I already said PGI turned on the 8v8 mode, but did not remove the 12v12 conditions From here you all cried and whine. That's all.

How can you save your something by ending on a word that doesn't get the point across?
You run away crying because you couldn't win a head-on argument.
You are talking about things that are not connected to what we have been talking about, but you seem have a problem somewhere.
Since you seem to have a problem, I'll tell you again and again that the conversation is over when you admit that the game is unbalanced, forgetting what you were talking about before.
That's all.
Putting time aside is too elementary

- it's something different
- somewhat faster matchmaker?
- combat takes place in more varied locations than 12v12
Cons:
- 1 mech death can cripple the team
- greater tonnage imbalances
- some weapons dominate more, and others become less relevant.
- fewer combat tactics available
- more lopsided 8 to 1 scores (ties back to the first point)
- faster games (not necessarily a good thing)
If 2 mechs on your team go down, the match is basically over. The chance of recovering seems less than 12v12, and coming back from the brink is one of the things that made 12v12 more interesting to play. That, combined with fewer combat strategies available, make this not fun. So I stopped playing. Even with the free MC loot bag event, it's just not worth it to play.
