I had no idea so many people would feel so strongly for 12 v 12. I actually had more fun in the days when it was 8 v 8 but of course balance was very different then.

Balance even tilts more favorably towards the more risky playstyles like brawling. It's much easier to find approach angles in brawlers with 8v8.

I think I'll have to play tonight and see how it feels. I am attracted to the theoretical lower TTK from having fewer mechs on the field.
And the classic maps should be more fun too.

Would require UI retooling and adding more map spawn spots if you go over 12v12, so 0 chances...

I honestly don't get it. The idea of 8v8 has been slapped down so many times in so many threads.

The only folk who want it appear to be the vocal minority who live in years gone by when it was a thing but was replaced by 12v12 to improve player engagement and enjoyment and for some reason, their rose tinted glasses continue to obscure the popular demand. I say that having looked back at the threads and it ends up only being roughly 1:7 in favour and always the same people. Now that figure is likely to be adrift because I haven't the heart to keep going back, but I believe it is relatively representative.

8v8 over a weekend on an event period is just amazing(ly) badly thought out thing to do. Weekend, people can download other games or even go out with real life people now that lockdowns have been lifted as opposed to playing MWO, not that there will be a bigger pool to try and justify something that is generally not wanted.. I will say though, it is a 10/10 for effort in alienating your non-competitive audience and casual player base.

Somehow, looking at the number of posts saying how good/bad this debacle is, there's an underlaying suspicion that a lot of the positives are from alt accounts, possibly by the usual group who want what they want regardless of the main population?

Just saying!

Infowars enjoyer right there.

I've only played a handful of matches with the 8v8 in place but what I've noticed from a mid tier 5 perspective is that the game play is much more close combat. There seems to be less of the stand off and trade long shots and more closure and mid to short range engagements.

Matches seem to go faster too, it's quicker to engage and over faster. I've also noticed some other issues as well, frequent tonnage disparity and the devastating effect of a four man group in QP. AFKs and disconnects now have a much more significant affect as well. One player down in 12v12 is a hindrance but losing one out of eight is much more of an issue. And if that one player is your only assault it's a game changer.

I think 8v8 is like a distillation process, everything gets concentrated. The matchmaker flaws/tier discrepancies become much more determinate in who wins. The tonnage balance becomes more critical and again matchmaker flaws in that regard also greatly affect the outcome. Four man groups that are a third of the team in 12v12 with 8 other players able to contribute or have an effect on the outcome are now half the team and far more determinant on the outcome.

8v8 is definitely interesting and has potential. It's more what the idea of 'quick play' is to me, shorter wait times and faster game play. There are just some problems that while existent in 12v12 become much more necessary to address with 8v8.

Hello all,

While many players dislike the current version of 8v8, I believe we should all play some matches this weekend so the data sample is big enough to draw some conclusions.

Good hunting,

YES, play a few then bail. That way they get the data and also see numbers drop and get the message.

It's a different change of pace, its interesting none of the less.. gives the player more of a challenge with limited backup mechs and faster game time que waits.. I do hope for this event/game mode to return due to long que time waits to get into regular matches.

I have played more matches and find 8v8 to be enjoyable. I didn't like it at first because of it being more stompy but then people started to adjust a bit and bring different loadouts. If the tonnage could be fixed it would be better. Too much disparity there. Also a mech respawn or second drop would be fun.

So excited to login and play 8v8, nice surprise PGI. Now we need to limit drops to 2 of each class and we are bringing balance to this game.

You are introducing yourself.
When you inadvertently admit that the game is unbalanced, the conversation is over, so why don't you stop talking?
You, by the way, think you can just stick it out a few days and be done with it?

As I already said PGI turned on the 8v8 mode, but did not remove the 12v12 conditions From here you all cried and whine. That's all.

I've been enjoying the 8 v 8. Matches are faster and there does seem to be more brawling, far less clutter on the maps, especially the older smaller maps. It is only until the patch then back to same old same old, what is the problem? Really, as long as we get to drop and shoot the enemy, all is good.

How can you save your something by ending on a word that doesn't get the point across?
You run away crying because you couldn't win a head-on argument.
You are talking about things that are not connected to what we have been talking about, but you seem have a problem somewhere.
Since you seem to have a problem, I'll tell you again and again that the conversation is over when you admit that the game is unbalanced, forgetting what you were talking about before.
That's all.

My team has been getting destroyed almost every match I've played. It seems like after two light mechs get fried the snowball comes through and wrecks everyone. It's interesting and seems like heavy/assault brawlers or well coordinated groups is the best options for 8v8. It would be better to just have three rounds in my opinion more opportunity to get more c-bills. Drop decks like in faction play would also be nice. Where if you die you respawn in another mech and get dropped off in the battlefield.

The 8 vs 8 is a nice variety from normal gameplay. However i miss a little bit of bigger warfield with more players. You should implent it as a gamemode to choose. Played it the last days and want more players on the battlefield. And the gamesearch is way higher IMHO.

Not that great event, dont like it, i got always the Team with no Assaults in it, Enemy has mostly 2-3 Assaults, you should rework it fast

Pros:
- it's something different
- somewhat faster matchmaker?
- combat takes place in more varied locations than 12v12

Cons:
- 1 mech death can cripple the team
- greater tonnage imbalances
- some weapons dominate more, and others become less relevant.
- fewer combat tactics available
- more lopsided 8 to 1 scores (ties back to the first point)
- faster games (not necessarily a good thing)

If 2 mechs on your team go down, the match is basically over. The chance of recovering seems less than 12v12, and coming back from the brink is one of the things that made 12v12 more interesting to play. That, combined with fewer combat strategies available, make this not fun. So I stopped playing. Even with the free MC loot bag event, it's just not worth it to play.
