"It's only for the weekend"... well guess what? Some of us have lives and the weekend is the only time we have to play.
Springing this with no notice was a **** thing to do, and if this sort of thing is going to continue (either ruining the experience with no warning, or ruining the only casual player's venue by forcing any part of it back to 8v8...) I'll be moving on to find another game.

When we add the feature to the game we will be able to control Groups for the Event Mode Queue separately.
The current design will allow us to Force Groups, have smaller Groups, or no groups in the Event Mode Queue.
Please Keep in mind we are only doing this for this weekend
Man thats the best news i've seen here in a long time.

"Hell no, don't feel like it," says a significant portion of the forum. "Providing data to help you improve the game is not important to us, we're too busy complaining about how something needs to be done to improve your game."

Sorry ScrapIron - I know what you're trying to say, but I don't intend to be suffer un-fun gameplay (for me) for 5 days just for their data collection. Hence I played a few games, got what I needed from the experience to give my feedback as requested by their announcement, then will move on. I don't think others are doing much different, although the level of vehemence in their feedback may vary...

If even I can put up a performance like this in a half skilled Javelin then there has to be something seriously wrong with the mode...

Today was not fun. Weight classes were a complete mess, several games where one team had literally half the tonnage of the other team. I thought that matchmaking at least tried to put a similar amount of each weight class 'mech on each side but if that system ever existed, it's been broken to pieces by this mode. Running anything under 50 tons feels like a waste of time.

1) Potential damage potential is reduced by 33%, so match scores will plummet PSR is mostly based upon damage done, so reducing the amount of damage available will reduce match scores. Without matching modifications to how match score is computed, it will hurt many players PSR. This should include improving support mech match score offerings, the average light capping and using UAV and arty strikes is just as important as the assault pumping out huge damage numbers, yet are not recognized for those actions under the current system.
2) Matchmaker does not seem to be able to match very well with a smaller pool of available places, tonnage disparity is quite obvious in most matches.
2) Ace of Spades will be nigh unachievable now. And you can go ahead and remove Deathstar as a possible achievement.
3) Tactics to be successful are beyond the average player's ability now, most pug players only know how to nascar, which can be useful in some situations, but this is certain death in the new format. Most successful teams are spreading wide and holding position on over watch, allowing more focused fire on exposed players.
4) With so many 4man groups not using the allowed tonnage (bringing an all light lance) it is quite often you are out tonned from the start. Even if you are in a lance that uses the full tonnage, the rest of the team is quite lacking. Took a lance out tonight, 3 heavies and an assault, the rest of the team were lights, the opfor had 4 assaults, and a mix of mediums and lights, with predictable results. Better matchmaker filtering might help.
5) This mode seems to require a much more focused lance movement, if you are out of position or slower than the rest of the lance in the slightest, you are going to be shot in the back by the inevitable 4 man light pack. Coupled with the inability of the average player to actually use comms, it is quite brutal.
I'm sure there are many more significant issues, but I am drunk and tired, and not sure I care anymore. PGI has encouraged the sniping game and moved away from brawling and skirmishing, and there is no clear way to fix that except to heavily nerf long range weapons somehow. We all know that isn't going to happen.
I mourn this game, it could have been so much more. I feel that this attempt at 8v8 will be along the lines of the Star Wars Galaxies Combat Rebalance, which killed that game. People left in droves due to the drastic changes. I know there are folks that remember the original 8v8 mode of this game, and they are cheering wildly that is its back, but I just can't see any positive effects to the game.

Why are you assuming I like 8v8? I can see the benefits but I can also see the negatives of it. I also never asked for it. ???
The ONLY people going emo are the ones saying they quit until its gone. That isn't feedback, it's just a tantrum.
Please look up what a feedback is. Even a "it sucks and I do not play till the even is over" expresses a dislike for the current game mode. If you do not understand that, then you should consider that you are more emotionally invested than you care to admit

P.S. less players = more need in share armor = less reason to snipe = more fast matches = ... etc

Also when a single lost mech is a disadvantage and 2 is often a loss the prevailing tactic is a giant murderball- whichever team doesn't follow the strategy gets picked off and demolished.
I don't prefer this gameplay style.

Everybody hating 8vs8, single players.
So i hate it.
Unannounced change in gameplay,
on a weekend,
during an event,
making groups even stronger,
increasing stomps (would have never believed this is even possible),
because MM is not existend leaving me with TIER 5 players in Assaults doing less than 100 damage.
But you know what, after 8 years i´m not even mad anymore. Not even disappointed or surprised. That´s how low my expectations of PGI are now.
