Been outta game for 2, 3 maybe 4 years.

Before I left I was in 4TCR, but they got weird. And then I started playing something else.

Still enjoy the game. Since I played the first version so long ago. Bought that MW5. Played it a bit. I have returned to MWO.

It looks like not much has changed. Not even that many new mechs. A handful of new maps. I was reading the forums and I heard that Faction play is different now. It's not one clan or house, it's random teams maybe? Maybe I'll try that again. It wasn't that fun for me, everybody wanted to play at night, I couldn't and still can't. And wont.

Anything thing else I should look for?

Hey, a warm welcome back to MWO!

So... you've left around when the 'last' mech pack Dervish was released in June 2019...

1. Skill Tree gets a revamp soon, perhaps in May/June! Much easier for players to max out Skill Tree!

2. MWO/Cauldron have almost finished adding mech quirks to all mech chassis both IS+Clan now!
Omnimechs also get quirks on its individual torso part, not just Set-of-8 !
This plays like an entirely new game to me now, spending lots of time exploring various mechs!

(btw, smurfy.de is totally outdated now unfortunately...)

3. Weapon pass buffed up less used weapons so that all weapons are viable now!
More weapons can be fired at once without triggering Ghost Heat!

Also, mech agility has greatly increased across the board, as have JumpJets!
I especially like the greatly increased Torso Pitch!

4. Lots of mechs got +HSL quirks, can fire more weapons without triggering Ghost Heat!

5. Crusader: the first all-new mech chassis since Dervish upcoming!

6. Two (2) new maps recently introduced (Hellbore Outpost, Emerald Vale), with another new map upcoming!
Major tweaks/changes to existing maps (Canyon Network, Polar Highlands).

7. There is talk of an upcoming new Event queue for special/seasonal events!

8. MWO has never been more generous; do try to do as many Events as you can, yields MC+CBills+Premium Time!

As of yesterday April 11th 2022, there were SIX (!) Events running concurrently.
F2P players can participate in 3 of these 6 Events!

Therefore it looks like nothing has changed, but actually lots of things have changed, and for the better!

Weapons and mobility and mech quirks. They changed A LOT. If you don't want to scroll back through the last year of patch notes in the Announcements forum, then you'll want to go and look through the mechs and equipment on Mech DB.

Well, thanks very much. That filled in a lot. Now. I wonder what they have been doing to make money. They were getting $30 to $70 from me fairly often.

Mech quirks, mobility upgrades. Well, I'll just just to go find out.

The Warden Booster Pack easily became the best seller in MWO history!
If there is just one mech pack you should get, it's the Warden Booster Pack!
I really likes my Dire Wolf DWF-C(S) with ECM+JJ !
TBR-BH(S) is also worth the Set-of-8 + ECM; works right out of the box (I use LPL+MPL with heat gen reduction).
Even the Warhorn is reason enough to get for some! I wish I can buy more of this Warhorn with cash or MC!

PGI has stopped adding new chassis in mid-2019. They have recently announced the Crusader, which will be the first new chassis in several years.
Likewise, there was only a handful of new mech variants added since 2019.

FP is now more of an "event" mode with no persistent map or planets to fight for - it's two pre-determined factions (or alliances of factions) against each other (IS vs Clan being the main although IS vs IS or Clan vs Clan scenarios also happen) in pre-determined game modes.

Ah, yes, Faction Play (FP)...

Yondu is also known as "Yondude" on Youtube, streaming MWO FP games for all to see!

a) You can now switch allegiances between different Houses/Clans with no penalty anymore!

Hint: low hanging fruit: you can grind for "14 free mechbays" given out for reaching Rank 2 Achievements in each of the House/Clans! Yondu Udonta does not approve of this advice, unless you are already competent in FP.

(There are even more freebies doled out, but takes a lot more time to achieve these.)

b ) As there are no Scouting Missions, please do not buy any additional Scouting Drop Decks!
(I myself almost did just that.)

c) There is that rare sale for Drop Decks on average once-a-year or so.
