Hey everyone,
As the title says I'm thinking of returning to MWO and have been watching some clips that get me excited after finally finishing MW5.
I have a little disposable income and was looking to buy some mechs and was super interested in joining a Merc company for faction play, thing is, I'm not sure what mechs or packs to look over for quickplay and faction.
I have more of a preference for clan for aesthetics otherwise i don't care as i like my chicken walkers.
was looking more to get some mechs with c bill boosts and heroes but I'm not die hard set on them.
I'll defs be getting the warden booster (pity I can't get the elemental bolt ons) but wasn't sure what else to look at other than the dire ultraviolet (as im told) some assistance in what to seriously consider looking at to buy with perhaps a breakdown would be greatly appreciated.
I'm very keen on brawling more so than sniping if that helps.
Thanks!

Welcome back.
The past couple years have seen a lot of tweaks to the performance of various mechs and weapon systems. Mechs are a bit more agile now, the meta of builds has changed, and mechs that didn't get played as often have received quirk passes to make them stronger than they used to be. While IS mechs have better quirks across the board (to make up for having inferior or heavier equipment than their clan counterparts) a lot of Clan mechs have also been buffed and more attention has been given to "Set of 8" bonuses when you use all stock omnipods on Clan mechs.

That's your key resource right there. Go compare the mech chassis side by side for quirks and play with loadouts. The website does a good job of pointing out which bonuses stick with what torso or arm omnipods if you are mixing pods (which most folks do). I won't recommend a specific build, partly because I focus on inner sphere mechs, and partly because you should have a look around that site first and then ask some questions!
Oh, and the other big news... in a month the skill tree is going to completely change. Check the announcement forum here, read up on it, and skill your mechs carefully, knowing that in less than 30 days you'll be able to make different choices that might be a bit more efficient than the current layout and certainly easier to navigate!

I can't speak to faction play, but for quick play, just pick whatever looks cool to you and roll with it. A single player's choice of 'mech and build is not nearly as influential as the team's ability to actually play as a team. You'll be fine as long as you're not bringing some b******t meme build.
The last year's worth of balance passes have really improved the overall state of the game and while there are definitely some 'mechs that are harder to play than others, there aren't really any utterly unplayable 'mechs right now.

A warm welcome back to MWO!
You seem to have a strong sense of what is the correct mech for different situations (FP, QP, etc.)...
Faction Play

Quick Play

Other players (like me!) don't always follow the 'meta' (aka 'the best?') mech for certain situations... but that's just me
Wishing you FUN in MWO !!

i say pick up something that looks like fun, don't bother with meta. as for faction unless you want to deal with over competitive meta tryhards and their toxicity i would avoid it.
there are lots of good mechs you can get fro C-bills. i can't in good conscience recommend buying any of the real money mech packs. they are WAY overpriced, hell you could buy an entire new AAA game for what they want (ok not an "entire" AAA game since most games now days are chopped into paces so they can milk more money out of costumers).

If you like the Timberwolf, the Warden pack is a good pack to buy! It's best as an ECM Laser Vomit build.

Oh yes, and for Faction Play (FP), please do not buy Scouting Deck for the time being; there are no FP Scouting Missions for the time being! (I myself almost bought an extra Scouting Deck).

Good save, w0qj. Don't want him to waste good MC on something that can be bought but cannot be used!
Someday we'll be able to use them again, right PGI? ... Right?
