in BF I played as a support role, laying waste from med to long range then getting in there and to res my team mates but
In DoD I loved running around with my shovel, Seeing the dismay on my enemies face as they were cut down in melee (you kind know what Mech I am hoping for there

If there is a mech size dark hole you may want to check for me

The Mauler is a good choice it's design is good for sharing damage to each part of the mech. A good brawler mech is a mech that can force players to hit multiple hit boxes, not just a single location.
Your choice of the daishi, mad cat and mad cat mk2 Are not brawler type mechs. There center torso is too easy to maintain a shot on. Those mechs will need more center armor added to live longer and should be kept at med to long ranges or there center torso will still be an easy target.
Me I Love medium mechs but I've grown to like lights because they get into and out of the action so fast. The heavy's can be close to the speed and agility of medium mechs though and are more forgiving when hit by assaults. I like assaults too but only because of the Overpowered damage they can do. I don't like the slow walking and the fact that they will eventually die because of it.

And no I am not unemployed to be able to get all in the best way ;-)
Which came to my mind just now... it will also depend on the game engine. If LRM are completeley locked. Light Mechs would be no fun at all, dead with the first salvo. And if the speed is kept to slow compared to the torso twist I would go for Assault, if non of this issues is within the game... all classes :-D
