i can understand wanting to get out of t5 though. t3 is a good place to be gameplay wise as you get exposed to more tactics and more advanced play while still sometimes getting those lower skill matches to balance things out. just being open to improving your game a little bit will get you there.

kinds sounds unbelievable from a tier 5 player i know, but i am not a bad player imo, know the importance of team play, positioning and aiming my weapons.I also have a good understanding of the game mechanics.just too many matches i tried out things that dosent work.I know, the one kinda contradicts the other, but its true :D

What actually happens is people communicate less, want to win more often yet don't unless they are grouped, and still only shoot lasers at targets occasionally.

reason coud be that in every match you have every kind of player present, from tier 5´s up to tier 1´s.matches are found so fast, with the not so big player base i woudnt wonder.Or do you guys from tier 2 and Tier 1 wait longer then 30 seconds for a match (worst case) or more often insta drop?

i dont play lights much, arent beeing a good light pilot either. But my impression is if i do below 250 dmg (in a winning match) i allways drop in tier progress, except the own team totally sucked. If you on the losing side i drop sometimes even with 400 damage. So my impression is, you can do all the things you want.if the damage isnt right you drop.

You do not have to do lots of damage to get the green arrow when piloting a light 'Mech. Posted Image

In this game I did just 280 damage and it was okay: Unlocked My "fun Mode"

You just have to add some caps, countercaps, kills, assists, scouting, launch some UAVs, etc. Posted Image

The drop time varies, sometimes it is really fast, but more often it's a minute or two.

a reason for 'less comms in higher tiers' is that you're supposed to know your basics there. no need for "they're flanking on the left", no "they have snipers", "they got lurms", "get me a lock" and all the other comm-clutting stuff, that gives you 0-intel but buzzing ears.
the other side of the same coin:
people (should) do less st*pid sh*t like yolo-soloing into a group, so there's no comms trying to prevent that. and even if people do said stuff, we still don't clutter comms to "help" them avoiding that, as they WANT to do sth stupid, apparently. play long enough and you'll realise that 'stupid is as stupid does', and you can't fix it (outside of the 'still new, I'm learning-t5 bracket').
so you shut your mouth, accept that you got X "special-people" on the team and carry on playing to 'your best'.

TLDR: less comms in higher tiers might come of as 'unfriendly', but more often than not is a convention like 'no need for useless comms - keep the channels open for actually useful stuff".

Always great advice from people who have not played in almost 12 months. However, I would wager the lack of comms from some "special people" is because if they are in a 4 man, they are most likely on private comms and can't be bothered to fill in the rest of the team on the tactics since the rest of the team is the distraction and the meat shield for the 4 man or the 4 man is just bad in the first place and has no comms or strategy.

I have heard plenty of solo "special people" yammer on with useless comms all the time and some never speak a word because they just seem to "know" everything that's going on already.

I for one always appreciate certain things being pointed out, reminded of, etc and especially if the the 4 man has a plan like hold an area or push an area instead of having watch or loiter around them waiting for their unannounced coordinated movements, fire or game strategy.

Other than that, the lack of comms at every tier is simply because most people don't give a crap about being verbal and coordinating because they want to "shoot the stompy mechs", die and load into the next game, don't actually use comms or are simply "to good" to bother speaking to the rest of us "scrub lords".

I beg to differ.

Check these screen captures, please.

I deployed in a light 'Mech and I ended up on the winning side:

I did less than 250 damage (220 damage actually, but with a pair of kills and 10 kill assistances), but I launched UAVs ...

Posted Image

... and I scouted, flanked, protected other friendly 'Mechs, annoyed enemy 'Mechs with hit-and-run attacks and generally speaking ...

Posted Image

.... I did all those things that you consider useless. Posted Image

And I got the green arrow as the reward for my effort, as you can see. Posted Image

As I stated in my post #15 and in my post #23, these secondary activities really do help.

Kind of forgotten my train of thought in this thread, but to answer your question I'm presently tier 1. I don't display the tag because I don't think it really bolsters any contribution I make on the forums, though I don't mind that other players display theirs.

The current version of the Pilot Skill Rating includes no static values for PSR changes as they had been set from 2015 to 2020.

As it has been since 2020, your PSR movement depends on the comparison of your match performance with the performance of the other 23 players in the game. The same Match Score can give you the red arrow in one game and the green arrow in the next one.

It's got 4 Clan ER-PPCs - the two the 'Mech techs put on and the two I painted on.

Hey, can we stop with the gatekeeping on opinions of people who aren't in tier 1?

I'm in Tier 1 and I'm garbage at this game. OP is right though, damage matters way too much

It matters to the point where if I'm shooting a guy and the guy I'm shooting is distracted, I actively avoid killing him (assuming it doesn't come off as a clear risk of losing the game). Also, mechs that farm damage and not components are monumentally easier to rank up with

What wins a match more? 1k damage spread across 12 mechs or 220 damage with one kill? Kills win the match more than triple damage in my xp. I'd rather have team mates all do under 400 damage but get one or two kills with that damage than some blow hard 1k damage mech with no kills on the end match screen.
