Since about three weeks ago... used to avg 50 fps for about a year or two now.

Now I get 10-15. Game is unplayable.

Sometimes restarting the game fixes it. But often times not.

Often my first game will be 50 fps and subsequent games will be unplayable.

Please fix.

Try MrVaad's MWOconfig, I've used this and it helps!
https://mwomercs.com...-editor-for-mwo
https://mwomercs.com...ide-and-usercfg

Also:
https://mwomercs.com...-shader-pausing

Personally I've also set my MWO Video settings to "Low" for everything in:
[Settings]>>[Video]>>[Advanced_Options]

Good luck!

What about graphics card drivers update?

a) If you have updated your drivers in the last three weeks, then maybe reverting to some older version of drivers could be the way.

b) If you are using some old version of drivers, then maybe downloading a new version could help.

Drivers have not changed. But I noticed on the new map ( forget the name ) it usually comes out all shades of pink. Which I heard was a common problem with that level and Radeon Gpus ? That being said the FPS issue affects all levels.

Probably user error... try reinstalling the game or run https://www.userbenchmark.com/Software to check if any computer component is udnerperforming.

The game has not gotten harder to run, hasn't changed in many years.

You computer may also be overheating, try tracking CPU and GPU temperature during a gaming session with https://www.cpuid.co.../hwmonitor.html

run the repair tool and clean your shaders. mangled shaders are a huge source of ganked performance.

Tried the benchmark thing. Terrible Results!

This is what I get an message.

High background CPU (21%). High background CPU reduces benchmark accuracy. CPU throttled at 34% by Windows. Ensure maximum processor state is set to 100% via Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Processor power management > Maximum processor state.

Not sure what they mean by 'high background' my CPU in task manager is usually at 1-2% before I run the game.

Ok, it's possible you got a virus on your computer and it is mining bitcoins or something.

I did notice when I put the computer into mac mode. ( its an i9 macbook pro ) that even OSX exhibited the same issues even when using totally different applications.

Runs fine for a while then starts slowing down.

I wonder if my hardware is going....

Is it a desktop? I once reapplied thermal paste to my CPU because of performance issues and that did help.
But yeah, could be malware too.

Embarrassing to ask, but how do we access this MWO Repair Tool?

fyi, I'm using Steam installed MWO, and have never seen any repair tool anywhere knook and cranny!

open the launcher and hit the options button (the 3 line icon in the top left corner of the screen) and pick "run mwo repair tool" from the menu. for purposes of clearing shaders be sure to go to options and make sure "clean shaders" is ticked before running the tool.

not sure how to do it for steam users.

There's no repair tool for steam users. You can verify the game data and it will check for damaged files and reacquire them automatically. This is basically what the repair tool from the launcher does. The repair tool also clears the shader cache, which steam users must do manually.

This sounds like thermal throttling.

Basically your computer is getting too hot and it is slowing itself down to prevent damage.

A good cleaning usually solves the problem, but if you've never done a laptop a macbook might not be the best place to start that adventure.

If you can;

Backup your personal files
Reinstall a clean version of your OS
Harangue Applecare or whatever it is for a cleaning/inspection/new thermal paste or whatever they use/OR if you're savvy do it yourself

Or a poor man's solution is for 3x USB fans blowing above/below your notebook computer...

and take this from someone who has blown all his resources at mech packs ;)
