not everyone plays through steam. though jarls list pegs the active population at around 18k. so we did loose a few players. it usually takes a dive just before the holiday season though.

MWO folks tend to take a break right before the next big event (Loot Bag Event...hint...hint...)

And some might have felt burnt out from MWO Comp, playing outside of their normal hours...

We know of a few who tried for more MWO Comp games, had a devil of a time trying to organise an international player roster...
(A few countries are starting to have rolling/rotating blackouts apparently...)

It's been on a gradual decline the last month. Again, that's only Steam players, so not the whole picture, but probably representative enough. We also haven't had any events for a few weeks, but the Trick or Treat event should help bump that back up a bit.

Last few events had high rewards and were grindy, so burn out should take effect this month. The Halloween rewards are bad too to boot.

I was going to come back for the event. Last few weeks have been crazy busy for me and I just haven't had time!

Plus I don't use Steam to get into the game, and I am pretty sure there are several others along the same lines so that meter won't count us.

So don't worry, you can blow up my Timberwolf I'm sure sometime this weekend, hahaha

Played a few matches last night. Even if I died first and went right back into queue, I was waiting until the last match finished for enough people to drop the next match. Had 5 or 6 consecutive matches with the same 4 manner, plus a few other faces in a lot of them.

Population ebbs and flows. The lootbag events always bring out the masses, and the LRMs, so I'm sure wait times will drop shortly. Problem with these kind of events- I'll grind out the first phase today, then I won't play again until the second phase starts.

Well, depending on where I am will vary how much I play. My laptop isn't exactly a top performer for this game while I'm waiting at a local coffee shop for my wife to finish work. Running the slower missileboats is about all it can do, haha.

Once I get home tonight, get things settled I'm hoping to bring out the brawly units like my Timberwolves, Blackjack, Nova, and a few others. The PC there can run this game nice and good so I can use a far larger variety of builds.

Also, install the Steam client and leave MWO on 24/7 to prop up the numbers.

Think we need an update, terrain on new map fixed etc.

MWO 2.0 on unreal, we need something!

Afaik only a tiny fraction of players use the steam mwo client and the majority use the standalone as per some dev statement a while back.

The only time I have issues with getting a match is the 3-6 am eastern time range. All other times matches form fairly fast especially once you get in the mm 'groove' so to speak.

They made MW Mercenaries, so means they have already said goodbye to MWO.
With the Nascar-Madness I am have turned to play more to Steam-Bettletech anyways. A lot more balance from money and less stress! ;)

Specially an AC/10 hit in a Locast or Flea has the exact effect of an AC in a human, blow away.

More realistic ...

I find it very hard to believe 17.5k are on the default MWO..

I'm playing it more now than when it was launched due to the cauldron changes. I shelved it for a fair few years because it just wasn't very fun with a very strict meta on what mechs and loadouts were viable. Now its hella fun and if they would just sink a bit of money into a mild graphics update so that very high settings actually resembled them and do a bit of cross title advertising we could build the pop back up to something reasonable.
