1. Thanks for a new Quick Play map.

This map seems larger than some recent small maps such as Vitric Station or Emerald Vale.
Personally I prefer larger maps.

Posted Image

2. This map lacks the infamous bowl-like shape that is so known from many older and newer Quick Play maps.

I hope that this could result into a more interesting gameplay.

3. No obvious sniper ledges or sniper walls encircling the playing area that you know from Emerald Vale or HPG Manifold.

4. This map has a central structure, but this "Stonehenge" is so massive that even PUGs will have have problems nascaring around it.

Who am I kidding? PUGs can nascar around anything and everything. Posted Image

Massive "Stonehenge" in the centre of the map.

The "Stonehenge" is really big.

Two levels of the central area.

Gateway to Hell.
Posted Image

There is no central caldera filled with the molten lava that you remember from the original Terra Therma, but even so you should be very cautious here.

5. No vegetation at all, no trees.

Beautiful landscape. Posted Image

Summary: I am cautiously optimistic. At least this is something new, some respite from those small fishbowl maps.

What about you? What are you thoughts regarding this new map?

It looks amazing but can't say I like it. We climb to stonehenge and then snipe from ridiculous distances. What do I do on this map with a Splatapult for example? Is there a better way to play then just going to stonehenge and what happens happens?

The outskirts are. Same paths, same valleys, same choke points and battle areas that I remember. Nice.

It's the middle that changed. And I agree its a bit large. 800-1000 meters across the top, that will disadvantage brawlers. But approaching that central platform doesn't look too disadvantaged, so its not a snipe fest unless your personal boogeyman is snipers and you can't think of anything else.

A medium with 6 jump jets can get on the very upper ring, but short of that, we're not going to see any snipers way up there. And the heat effect in the entire center might play a part in the fighting ability of energy boats. We'll have to try it and see.

So I'm not looking forward to Domination on this map, but assault and conquest should ROCK, because it will use all those varied outskirts paths.

And looking at it tactically... if you're standing on top of that central platform, not only are you taking a heat penalty, but there are about 8 great sniper points circling it on the map that can pick on people standing up there. So the domination action will be happening on the lower level, where snipers in the outskirts can't get you. And there are enough valleys all around that snipers should not be able to control everything.

I'm sure we'll find some exceptions, but this looks very balanced. just don't stand around on top in the center. Duh.

I've played the map several time today and at the moment, whoever own the 'roof', owns the match.

I'm honestly impressed by the lighting in this rendition. It's much easier to see without actually being any brighter, and dark-colored 'Mechs still camouflage well. It's quite nice, I rather approve.

The center has a lot of problems with getting stuck on the terrain. While I like the collapsed volcano the middle floating layer looks pretty unrealistic. It should have been manmade.

I like the design a lot so far. The getting stuck is really annoying. I hope that can be improved.

Yeah, little like Vitric in that regard.

Once you've got a little dominance up top you can just bully anyone back over the edge and shoot down at them with impunity. I guess you can spread out and peek back over the entrance ramps if you get pushed off, but it looks like you're at a pretty huge disadvantage to do that.

I've heard people saying it's anti brawl, but I've found if you can approach over the top using the big rocks in the middle, you can knife fight pretty well.

That's the problem. They can't because they don't have a map designer for fixing that anymore.

People keep saying that owning the roof on victric gives you a win but I have won time and time again on teams ignoring the roof. Theres no cover on the top if the enemy team goes along on of the edges and gets angles on the guys up top.

As for Terra therma classic I love the new map, but i always like hot maps cause so many people kill themselves with heat.

There are two big problems:
1) Losing François, i.e. their principal map designer.
2) Finding a new map designer.

This runs very hot.

If you have a mech that you're comfortable sliding up and down the heat management scale it may take you a while to adjust to this map.

Night Gyrs are going to be very competitive and I look forward to other mechs having external heat transfer buffed.
