For the next faction play event, I would like a list of requirements or needs for new players to start playing faction. I have been told that fp was not for new players. I have been playing for about one year and would like to try fp if only I get info about what to do to start. I only ask for some basic info to get started, the rest can be learned while playing.

So I find it very discouraging and frankly quite rude for some players to say "this is only for teams or players who know what they're doing", because the way I, and many of my teammates or friends learned how to play the mode, was by playing the mode, and being taught along the way. Looking at the builds I was getting farmed by, and seeing how best to counteract that style of play, only for a different style to present itself on the next map, and learning, again, what works best against it.

There's no training grounds for Faction, and nowhere to look at the different objects and objectives in the mode and learn how they work and how to interact with them, and you typically won't see FP specific builds outside of FP, so the only way to learn anything about the mode is to just jump in and play it. That's also where I met the teams that I play with, now: I played several games, saw who seemed to be doing well, or just who seemed to be having fun, and started talking to them in VOIP. Very soon, I was invited to their TeamSpeak channels and drop groups to play with them and listen to their coms, and learn what they were doing. My current unit is mostly old guys who either have day-jobs or are 100% disabled, so none of us are good (not like JGx or EMP, anyway), but we have fun, anyway.

Hence my suggestion that a Youtube video or series covering the basics of Faction Play be linked from the next event posting. A basic training video. Have a group that is well versed in the ins and outs of the mode, a GN-X or a Clch, put together the training video. Maybe offer them a unique tag in return for their service to the community.

It can only help the game and the community if we can help some of these new players get a handle on the game mode rather have them drop in, with no idea what is going on, to get curb stomped by a JgX or FJRD pre-made 2 or 3 times before they give up on the mode, or maybe the whole game, in disgust.

ive played so much mwo now, my screen has a dead pixel in the middle of my crosshair..
this event was very much fun.. i could drop solo with best waiting times.. max 5 min waiting, sometimes redirected 2 the fight after counter ends.. i switched sites alot and had nice fights on both.. ive seen new players on the field, some goin with the group, coordinate each other and triing 2 get the best out of overwhelming situations.. sometimes rewarded.. very good..
a problem was sometimes defstacking.. queue of 12/52.. and so on.. maybe its possible 2 give some rewards 4 doin dmg on attack in siege games, next event..
after so long time waiting 4 an faction event, im really happy 2 hear that we get this
monthly now..

i think this pug v unit stuff can all be solved pretty simply,a nd in a way that makes most people happy.

next time pgi does an event, they need to make the challenges and actual challenge. 8000dmg in a kodiak in 1 weekend would have been a wonderful challenge.

the thing is, we dont want to entice people into fw if they are just looking for free stuff. we want to entice the people who are willing to put in a good amount of effort into the mode, and discourage people who dont have faith in their piloting abilities, or who arent willing to try hard.

making the events easier at the request of a pug is good public relations on pgi's end, but it isnt doing the pugs any favors. anyone dropping in fw should be encouraged to look for a real challenge, no trophies for just showing up. and it would help immensly if pgi updated the fw warning, made it repeatably pop up for people under t3, and removed trial mechs from the mode. they should also add a warning to the intro to the next fw event, so that people have the maximum chance of success if they try the mode. too many pugs this weekend were blindsided by the fact that this isnt qp, and it plays differently. thats probably one of the primary sources of all this salt.

Honestly, none of the salt is new. This is just more voices added to the same old chorus because those voices got a chance to try it without waiting for an hour and a half for a match, and they see the same thing everyone else has been seeing and saying for years. The population boost was nice, it was nice to have a lot of pug vs pug matches without too many premades or elites involved, but at the end of the day, the issues are the same as they've always been, and we're seeing this weekend's participants noticing that.

Are you also using one of the newer AMD APU's inside a Laptop ??

P.S. : Your signature is broken. And also very large because of that...

1- nope, I do not play Quick Play
2- using Intel inside a desktop PC, NVidia GPU
3- thank you for reminding me about the signiture

All they're doing is just dusting off an old item. Posted Image
Actually, this is what they've been doing for a long time. We only saw one new machine recently, but apart from that, there's nothing else.

Three steps forward, one step back. Like dancing.

Take a look. Perhaps there are other things in the old chests. Posted Image

For some context this was my first time playing faction play a lot (I might have tried like 1 or 2 games before...). I played all in solo queue. Overall the event was a lot of fun and I had a lot of memorable moments.

The highs were really high, but the lows were also really low. I loved playing matches where both sides didn't have organized teams, even if our team lost I still felt like re-queuing for more. The games with random people versus organized 8 or 12 clan drops were miserable, it felt like the game was decided at loading and folks were demoralized before the game even started. It sucked when the organized teams would charge out of base and camp the dropships (not blaming the players, I totally understand).

The best games were later in the weekend and on Monday when I supposed all the clans queued less. Overall net positive in fun for me. Would play more!

Won't bother with it again until I find a crew to drop with, which will happen probably never.

YIPPE KAY AY ***** FUNSTAS!

Teething issues and idiotic 12 mans did not stop me having a whale of a time this weekend.

I EVEN enjoyed seige mode, from both sides of the fence.

Here's to more in the future!

===

To the experienced 12 mans, I say: Please show some awareness of your opposition. I don't expect you to throw matches, but refraining from drop ship camping should not be beyond your skills. Posted Image
FP in it's hey day was the pinnacle of 12v12, with full 12 man teams that lived and breathed FP together. Those days are gone, but if you want to get back to being anywhere close to that, you need to go back to basics and rebuild. Pugs (Pick up Group players) coming in need help and guidance, not abuse and stomping.

===

To the new players I say: READ Yodudes FP guide. It's not a long read and gives 6 golden rules that you should adhere to. It's on the Forums here:
https://mwomercs.com...ion-play-guide/

And a direct link to the google sheet here:

https://docs.google....l#gid=985291394

Realise that FP is not QP and it is, by neccesity a more difficult game mode that requires more than just jumping in with trial mechs and thinking you can be a lone wolf. If lone wolfing is your thing, then QP is your mode.

===

Finally, big thanks Daeron and Matt. Your hands are somewhat tied, but you're taking it on. From me, it's been an excellent first event.

I'd like to see higher rewards, but just as difficult to achieve (or even slightly harder). I could have finished it all this w/e if I could shoot better. Even then I had time left where I could have finished the event, but elected to watch John Wick 4 instead. As it is, the only rewards I failed on were heavy and medium mech damage, and those I got to 90% with 8hrs of play to go.

Once more, thanks and good job.

Disagree. Your approach is better for premades. Premades can play FP anytime.
This event was enjoyable for solo players because of low number of premades stomping noobs.

You sure it's not your PC ?! When MWO crashes during gameplay it was always my PC that had issues and the rest of the time it has been 100% issues FREE for many years now!

I suppose it could be, but why would my PC only have issues running the game when I drop into FP, but be able to do QP with no trouble?

Quote

Original Polar was NOT BAD : The PLAYERS WERE !!! People who are too stupid to figure out that high rocks give them better cover than low snowy hills deserve to get shot to pieces !!! Even by n00by LURMers !!! But hey... sure... blame the map! It's only logical... LOL!

What rocks?! I think I remember one tall rock on the entire map, and the rest was rolling hills, and a few trenches that were barely taller than most mechs, none of which would protect you from indirect fire LRMs if you were tagged, narced, or someone got off a well placed UAV.

Quote

Not a bad idea actually!

Thank you, if I'm going to complain about something, I always try to come up with some sort of solution as well. For instance, to stop farming on Siege have the defenders treat everything outside the base as out of bounds, so they can't run out and Drop Farm, and to keep the attackers from doing the same, instead of having defender reinforcements coming in on dropships, have them come up from one of 12 random elevators, Solaris stile.

Quote

AGREE!!! But... I see less and less NASCAR lately to be honest and a lot more ER LL/PPC or LURM SPAM in QP so I am not sure if NASCAR is still a thing...?!

It seems to go in cycles, NASCAR counters peak & poke; peaking snipers counter LRMs, LRM spam counters NASCAR. At least that seams to be the pattern, i could be wrong.

In this game mode, what I see as a missing element is something that many of you have probably noticed as well. Clans, or rather the lack thereof. We use the concept of clans in our machines, but the battles are random. They don't market clans like a football club, and that's a missing piece. They can't find supporters.

Generally, it doesn't matter much if a player paints all their machines in the same theme. Why? Because every day there's a different clan's match, and anyone can participate. It loses its value.

It used to be a thing when the population was still enough to support it back in 2016 or so.

One of the best events PGI has held in a long time. Looking forward to the next one.
