For any potential HOWL buyers.
There's no mention that the 80% ATM range buff comes with a minimum range extension.
My couple tests have yielded first hit results in testing grounds at over 200M. 220-230. Zero damage inside that.
Be aware before you spend money when the mechanics are not disclosed.

T

EDIT

I switched maps, and now hits are registering as they should, right down to minimum range.
I guess i should try different maps next time. Alpine works fine, will check others and update.

T

Edit 2
No min damage zone does not appear influenced by the range quirk.
Several mechs on diff maps in testing are registering no damage under 220. I think this is just a test map bug.
I hope. Will update.

If thats true then its a bug. Extending the optimal of atm is not supposed to also extend the no damage zone.

sounds like a bug, possibly caused by the training grounds. they are known to behave quite weird under certain circumstances.
regular range quirks/skilltree nodes don't affect ATM min range, so the extreme quirk should not do this either.

Yessir, that seems likely. I'm encountering no correlation between maps and mechs, but I'm getting perfect results as they should and minimum range, and then zero damage until 220...then instapop. 220 seems to be the bug range level.
Either way, will continue testing in game as well.(which was the start of my testing crusade. Unloaded on a few mechs 170-200 with no damage).
Will update.

potential buyers should ignore the quirks and use the ballistic points and the swappable engine.

many of the outlier quirks have been meh.

Firstly, did you know that ATM minimum range reduced to 60m (down from 120m)? Dec 2022 patch.

Secondly, I can personally confirm that minimum range 60m specifically for my TBR-H (Timberwolf Howl legendary mech), as per:
~unfriendly QP game: ATM minimum range=60m for TBR-H(LGD)
~Private Lobby 1x1 game: ATM minimum range=60m for TBR-H(LGD)

Thirdly, today (June 22nd) I've done testing on Testing Grounds (Tourmaline Desert), and I can confirm that:
~Testing Grounds: ATM minimum range=60m for TBR-H(LGD)

===============
==>Try adding a TAG weapon onto your TBR-H(LGD) with ATM, and try firing at 62m with TAG illuminating your target.
Any damage done by ATM would also yield you "TAG Damage", confirming damage had been done!

also you can see small discrepancies in range from hardpoint offsets.

That's the first thing that popped into my mind. 60m to 220m? We're talking about a +266% range quirk?

i figure it would be around 108 meters if the min range was being scaled. but considering my previous post, if you check at exactly 60m and your hardpoint is a meter behind you (the missile racks on the timby are slightly behind the centerpoint of the mech), its entirely possible not to get a red crosshair. so maybe move back to 65 meters and check again.

Range quirks and range skill tree nodes have never increased Minrange deadzones afaik.

For what it's worth I was watching Magic Pain Glove deleting people at under 100m with 4ATM9 with Howl quirks and max range nodes. Confirmed, it's fine in game on live servers.

Testing grounds is surprisingly often NOT good for testing things.

just tested it myself. no damage at 60, back up to 62 and the damage is good. yep, totally accounted for by hardpoint offsets.
