Got Bello and X5. Debating on Blood Kit or Rival for medium prize. Cinder is my light choice pending lootbags.

Those are good videos but they are from 2022 and quirk passes have changed some of the mechs and/or weapons quite a bit in my opinion.

Good hunting,

yup, quirks have changed here and there.
and will in the future.

what doesn't change, however, are hardpoints and their placement.
example:
(almost) no matter the quirks, the Sleipnir will always be a good hero Posted Image
same for the deathsomething (madcatII-hero)

How about chicanery? Maybe mayhem? Or hullabaloo?

its a good word and i like it. i suppose i could use words in the wrong tense or nouns as verbs like the young'uns do, but i find that in poor taste.

i always found it ironic how a generation who needs to be forced to watch schoolhouse rock clockwork orange style is so insistent about pronoun use.

of course i did have a femdom fettish about my english teacher, so i may be a little biased. spell it right or lefty gets it!

With the big beach party event happening I have been thinking a lot about hero mechs and which ones I will select if/when I unlock all the stages. A particular puzzle to me is the Cyclops Sleipnir.
Every forum post, reddit post or video I can find that lists the top hero mechs in the game includes the mighty Sleipnir at or near the top of the list. I don’t yet have one, and I think they look amazing, so it should be a no-brainer.
But I am confused about what makes them so good, especially when compared to a mech like the Kodiak KDK-3. The Sleipnir loadout most guys seem to recommend is the 4xLBX10 build- and I don’t doubt that it is effective!- but it looks like a plain old KDK-3 could run the same thing while moving faster, carrying more ammo, and having effective backup weapons. Yet the Kodiak seems to have a bad reputation and the Sleipnir is seen as a must-have.
Again, I am not arguing with the consensus here- if so many tier 1 players swear by the Sleipnir, who am I to argue? I just want to understand what makes it better that other similar mechs, like the KDK-3.

The Sleipnir is more agile really.

I find the Sleipnir more survivable overall.

Kodiaks I find generally disappointing, without being able to specifically nail down why. I suspect them being so large, and such a priority target for the enemy is most likely the cause. The only Kodiaks I have that work "okay" are ones set up as LRM boats and that I pilot like they are made of glass, and avoid brawling with, for fear of death. And that just seems kind of wrong for some reason...

Any IS Assault mech 90ton or above with 4x ballistic hardpoints in LT/RT is worth looking at!
Fafnir FNR-5 (with ECM!!), FNR-5E, FNR-J(LGD), ANH-2A, MAL-1R, MAL-1P, MAL-MX90, and perhaps the NSR-9P or NSR-10P (with ECM!).

And of course the infamous Cyclops Sleipnir hero mech (4x ballistic hardpoints in LT/RT).
It is very agile, and can torso twist quickly as well!

- - - - - - - - - -
Kodiak KDK-3 (also 4x ballistic hardpoints in LT/RT), it's fast (typically 55-60 kph), and hosts the lighter weight Clan weapons that some crave for.

However, KDK-3 had been described as follows: "as tall as an Atlas, and as wide as a King Crab".
Need we say more?

that. it's not only more agile, it is
REALLY THAT MUCH more agile.
the kdk3 is a good mech, but moves like a freighttrain; it doesn't turn well at all.
it does fine, but once something unexpected shows up, you're screwed.
with the slap-nir, you can turn&twist like a champ and quickly adapt.

once you're twisting&turning with your mechs, the sleipnir is much more survivable. imo.

Thank you for the replies guys.
This makes sense. I do generally twist to spread incoming fire but I often overlook the turning speed and torso speed numbers. Looking at them makes it very clear just how much more agile the Sleipnir (and some tractors) are compared to the big bear. This likely explains why my KDK-3 often seems like it has a bullet-magnet installed in the CT. Well, the slow turning speed and the very amateur piloting.
I think I might need to pick up a Sleipnir and try it out.

The current event opens a lot of possibilities, so many choices...so many mechs Im unfamiliar with..

I know my first pick for light will be the Katana Kat.

For medium, Im not sure...thinking in between the Blood Kit and the paralyzer.

Heavy, either the bounty hunter or surprisingly...the Bandit, just tried some loadouts and I like it, gauss rifle, UAC5, ERMLx4 and it feels very solid sniper and mid-range aggressor.

For assault...not sure...thinking Dragon Slayer, or the Boiler, the Knockout....stil weighting my options though

I can recommend the Blood Asp Rancor for your Assault shenanigans although I run it as a LRM boat because ... reasons.

It's fairly nimble, doesn't have a lot of problems with heat, can use a Tag to lock and fires 100 missiles on chain fire. It's also fairly effective for SRMs with Artemis. As far as ammo goes I've only ever run out twice and because it's a Clan mech you can fire point blank.

The only problem is that you need to stay right in the middle of your team (behind a King Crab or a Direwolf works for me) because everyone on the other side makes killing you their top priority.
