whenever i see people stating that win/loss is a you in particular problem i just think they are idiots. its a TEAM game. i have had 1,000+ damage matches with 3 or more kills/kmdd and still lost and being the only player to get any kills at all (been playing for years and still can't seem to get that 5 kill award for some reason. i have had very high KMDD matches (7 or 8 i think is the max so far)). blame it on the team or the matchmaker it wasn't my fault. there is only so much a single mech can contribute to a match. (when the team does badly and i am in the top 2 or 3 i like to say "if i'm the top player you done ****** up" because i am a middle of the road player most days.). yes the only thing in a match you can control is you but that doesn't mean that the team has no effect on match quality. i say Quality over win/loss because a loss can still be a fun match, a stomp in my opinion isn't fun no mater what side you are on.
yes the MM is busted not only does it make large tonnage disparities but also Tier lvls. in no circumstance should a t1 be in the same match with a t5 but i have seen it happen. part of this is the low population and part of it is because it doesn't know how to properly handle groups with solos. the MM doesn't take into account the total tonnage of a group when placing them.
what is the matchmaker supposed to do?
Its not magic dude, you can only make matches out of actual players who actually exist and are actually playing. That's a finite number, made dramatically smaller by tier filtering and weight class filtering.
its clear this situation pushed open a release valve and forced a match to form outside the normal weight parameters. IIRC weight class is the first release valve so its the one you'll most often see pop open. What else do you expect to happen though?
I hardly see why "matchmaker is busted" is a constructive thing to say at all. In fact I think all things considered its actually performing remarkably well. I pretty much reject out of hand the idea that this thing is "busted".
