So while I was digging through the sounds and dying inside because the relationship between FMOD and myself is hatred, I noticed that a lot of the projects are kind of a mess. There's remnants from old unused Bitchin Betty events, some weapons are kind of jank in how they're named (iirc one of the machine gun wav files has a [ in it lmao), there's probably other issues but I never checked but it's been a confusing hellscape.

Some stuff which is especially weird is how the setup for the atmosphere parameter is, and really I'm kind of curious as to why not set up the effects in the parameter to work on one layer instead of two. This could save a lot of space and time since you'd cut out an extra event from every weapon fire.

If you look at the curves for the event, it looks like you could just use those instead of relying on an entirely separate event for when ya fire. I'm not entirely savvy to how ya'll handle the parameter adjustment for different maps but I really do feel like there could be some optimization there.

It's prob a bit more apparent with the laser, like for example looking at laser_clan_large_internal, it looks like you could definitely work with that instead.

With all that said idk I'm ******* bored and I was kind of curious about the whole process now that we're getting a weapon update and I really wanted to see if perhaps a lot of the older stuff that possibly could be cleaned up would be.

With the MWO Comp 2023 coming up fast, I personally believe that there would be no major "rock the boat" patches coming out for a while.

No major weapon behaviour changes, and perhaps no sound file changes that you've mentioned above.

Daeron did mention that the "pink" video texture bug in the Ceres Metal Scrapyard would be fixed, hopefully in the upcoming Aug'2023 patch!

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that anybody currently working at PGI knows anything about Cry Engine.

I'd love to stick around and explain why, but I'm late for diversity sensitivity training.

I spent like a week straight making a sound mod that adds a layer of fart noises and dumb memes in the game. PGI hire me I know how FMOD works.

The problem is less knowing how the ancient version of cryengine works and more how to figure out the monstrosity of a code base that is the result of years of tinkering and doing things to the engine it was never supposed to do. A veteran cryengine coder would take one look under the hood and go NOPE! and move on to another more sane job prospect.

ive worked on even older engines, its workable. you just have to be willing to shell out specialist pay for a specialist job of modernizing the code base. though i often question how much of the code base is a black blob. all of it if you dont have people who can write code. but i suspect a coder would encounter a number of poorly documented binary blobs with no source.

Short answer, no. At least not yet. Maybe.

Long answer, watch the VOD
