I will say this quirk is really modest as a result, 1 skillnode saved, more useful for very particular loadouts and less so for the stock loadout, but it's something.

Agreed. A free advanced zoom skill node could be inferred that PGI wants the Blight to be a sniper mech per its quirk. However, the default loadout they give it themselves is rather mid-range with UAC10s, Light PPCs, and LMGs.

Don't get me wrong: the mech looks cool and having those high-mount ballistics in the torsos is pretty special. I just wish it had a bit more going for it.

e.g. if it's to be a sniper, then why not velocity or range or jam chance? Or, failing that, why not an ECM slot?

If not a sniper, and meant to be more of a beefy brawler, then maybe MG quirks and +armor or +structure? It's a blight, after all. Would make sense for it to be tenacious, in your face, and hard to eradicate.

It's been said already in this thread: there's a lot that Blight can be given its unique hardpoints and dearth of quirks, but for a legendary it doesn't seem like PGI had a theme in mind for it. Most of the other LGDs seem to have something of a theme to their design and intent, and I suppose that's where there's the biggest disconnect.

The default loadout does not mean much, as you can see in the game. Naturally, you can run the default loadout in MWO, especially if the 'Mech comes either with some massive quirks for that loadout or because that loadout conforms to the existing meta.

Other than that, MWO 'Mechs are not much more than walking sets of hardpoints, regardless of what loadout they originally used to have.

Because AC-2 projectiles are already pretty fast - of course, not as fast as Gauss Rifle slugs, but still ... So no velocity quirk.
AC-2 also offers better range than almost all autocannons barring LBX-2. So no range quirk.
And since AC-2 can not jam, "Blight" lacks that "Jam chance" quirk.

Probably because those "competetive players" do not need it. After all, they are comfortable with their 100-ton ECM Daishi or Night Gyr.

Sniper does not need MG quirks, etc.

Not, sleeping, Martian. First off, obviously this is a typo as there's no way to fit 5x AC5s on the Blight. As for 5x AC2s, I specifically called out the potential "long range dakka" in one of my first posts on the topic. My observation (and complaint) is that even though that's an option for its hardpoints (which is special on its own, true) it isn't made interesting by quirks. I've never said it isn't viable. Never said that build couldn't be used well by a skilled player.

It's just not 'legendary.'

Regarding my ballistic quirk suggestions, I hear what you're saying, but those are the kinds of quirks that would make Blight a unique longer range ballistic platform: AC2s that are pushing gauss speed but with AC2 RoF. AC2s hitting at far longer ranges (itself a risk that rewards skill because of positioning and travel time). Or fewer AC2s of the ultra or rotary variety taking advantage of the torso mounts, and therefore benefitting from jam chance or jam cooldown.

Otherwise, if it's not meant to be a long-range fighter -- and therefore would be more interesting and legendary with multiple quirks aligned with that role -- then other ballistic builds favor closer range and therefore the Blight's quirks would be better redesigned as a brawler.

I respect you're trying to drop some wisdom here, but I stand by my initial assertion: other than the ballistic hardpoints, the Blight is kinda meh. BUT -- it could be amazing. Still balanced, but unique.

LOL No, I am not "Apologist". This is just PGI shoehorning players towards a very specific build for the 'Mech - not thanks the 'Mech's quirks, but because the 'Mechs's hardpoints.

For me, "Blight" is just another bland Hero 'Mech of the kind we have seen before.

While i like the idea of dual barrels on Marauders (and typically like symetrical builds), i feel most builds don't feel good, nor really legendary.

Maybe more armor/structure quirks would solve most of it, maybe adding range/heat would go with the theme of the gas-mask.

So far, these were builds that i tried and mostly failed.
Many of them are not putting out enough dps or just vanish after a 1-2 punch of a laser vomit or similar.
Maybe it's less tankiness, maybe my choice of engine or weapons... but see here my builds from best to worst:

2x RAC5, 2x SNPPC, 3x LMG, LFE270
decent dps and fire rate for the amount of heat.
had most success due to sheer amount of dmg and suppressive fire.

1x Gauss, 2x Binary, 4x LMG, LFE270
Using Binary Lasers were giving better result than below dual gauss,

and then most builds below already struggle. maybe due to XL or dps.

2x Gauss, 2x ERLL, XL270
Great on paper, similar to NightGyr (which is also feeling squishy due to low quirks), but dies very quickly.

2x LGauss, 2x ERPPC, XL270
Similar to popular Warhammer build, but feels weak and squishy, even less dps due to high ERPPC heat and low LG dmg.
Niche for sniper maps, if your not getting picked by Nascar.


the next sound nice on paper, but somehow doesn't really work out that well, but didn't have enough rounds to really get a feel for them.

2x LBX10, 2x SNPPC, 3x LMG, LFE270
2x HGauss, STD250

This is my favorite build but I am terrible with heat management in the thick of things, so I opted for 3x HMG and 2x small x-pulse to compliment the dual RAC5's. I saw another player using this build with much success.

Fun stuff regardless, but I keep going back to the build everyone tells me on comms is garbage, yet I avg over 500dmg with several kills running dual binary and 5x hmg's. To each their own at the end of the day.

as an alternative, I've had good success (as long as I'm patient and don't try to facetank -new player skill issues...) running a similar build with 2 LB10X (instead of the RAC5s) 2 Small X-Pulse and 3 HMG with a light 300.

You should go back to the store, like you tried to do... It might be a provisioning issue - can take a bit for the stuff to show up (this is a thing on lots of games.) Try it again (since it's been an hour,) and then refresh your browser on that page; make sure you're logged in.

If your browser blocks cookies and cross site scripting it can stop the page from working right. Also, like the other guy says, the page updates every hour or so.

Brios recently shared his Gorewing video going full pop-tart with twin HAG 30s. With map knowledge + a lot of patience, he did very well with it (and got a lot out of its 0% fall damage).

TTB also shared a Gorewing video with 4x ERLL, but he also played more typical sniper with it so it didn't really take advantage of its quirks. More a testament to blue laser viability if you know maps well and have the skill to snipe reliably.

Minor quibble with Blight: the theming is confused. If it's a biological hazard theme the nuclear hazard stuff doesn't fit in.
