You're mostly correct. There's one of two things going on here:

1 - The server loads up the database, and loads the assets it needs. Every match it loads more assets as they are encountered until eventually it loads an asset that breaches the limit (or an asset with a table row over the maximum allowed row number) and the server crashes, dumping all the maps/matches in progress on that one server and refusing new ones until restarted.

OR

2 - The server loads up the database, but the table with assets in it is too large and cannot be loaded, resulting in an error and a dead match.

Which one depends on exactly how things are implemented, and this is the part I can only guess at. Given the performance of the game and the fact it sometimes works, I'm inclined to think the former.

This is all part of the mystery solving fun that devs and admins get to do when something blows up, and I'm pleased to see PGI narrowed in on the problem rather quickly during a holiday weekend and have a code fix tested and ready in under two weeks.

Wonderful news, and im happy to see the devs streamlining the game's items in a massive way.

I hope the Devs will consider doing the same with camo patterns across mechs, as the current system of 'unlocking' for 1000+ MC comes off as frankly predatory towards newer, naive players when they realize it is set to Unlock by default, and are specific only to that mech. Which, even if you have all variants of a particular mech, applying the camo individually as a one-shot is always cheaper by a vast margin.

Though if the unlock price was across all mechs, similar to how unlocking colors already function, then I believe it would warrant the current MC price, and doubling to optimize the game further.

Sucks about the downtime. But I for one am glad I can now use my bolt on items across chasis. It felt a little gamey to lock one bolt on to ONE mech chassis. See y'all on the battlefield

Usually most of the time needed for changes to code (or data) is spent not on the change itself but on testing it and validating that it doesn't cause any unintended outcomes.

This patch also includes a fix for the Centurion Chassis that has been shown to cause client crashes.


Here's what you should expect post-patch:
  • Server stability should return to normal

Hey both Clan and IS LRMs are bugged, they are shooting wild out of the tubes, sometimes at right angles, sometimes straight back, seems to be fine if dumb-fired but happens when locked on. This was discovered in testing mode.

Good work getting a solution implemented so quickly, I really appreciate it. You are doing better than some major payment processors I work with on that front.
