Yeah, the Longbow is trash because the folks that put the stats together don't like long range missiles.

Or because the spitfire is based on the Longbow-OH, which has some 29 hard points most of which are RL10, and they tried to make use of the hard point limit in MWO and give it something sellable besides RL builds?

The main market for legendaries appears to be lower tier and new players, both of whom love the whoosh.

Finally sat down to look at the LRM5 vs LRM15 weapons stat...
Yeah, perhaps some sort of (new?) "-40% Heat for LRM5 Missiles only" is needed?

Pros of 3xLRM5 vs 1xLRM15
~faster cooldown
~tighter missile spread

Cons of 3xLRM5 vs 1xLRM15
~6.6 heat vs 4.5 heat (ie: 3xLRM5 = 3 X 2.2 heat = 6.6 heat), which is a massive 47% more heat for using 3xLRM5 vs 1xLRM15

I sometimes run a mean baby with LRM80 and 3xLPPC

It rakes in at least 400dmg usually, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Or an archer with narc and a tag and LRM40 and a 5 small pulse (really surprises the people who rush up thinking they are hunting a LRM boat)

You really need to bring your own tag or narc or ppc or bap (at minimum at least two of those) otherwise you'll be useless at least half the time.

I can occasionally pull in 1000 dmg with both of those builds, and rarely less than 250dmg (only on a stomp or if I position badly).

Clan LRM is broken though, they dropped the damage a few patches back and the stream fire lets people avoid incoming fire too easily. I can rarely pull in over 250dmg, if that, even with clan assaults.

I've got a corsair and a fafnir that I used the standard SNPPCx2/AC20/MRM30, and I run 3 or 4 LRM5 as a "backup long range weapon" so snipers can't just have fun with me, the tight spread will really core out a mech, and the faster rate of fire gives them a about a 25% advantage per tube (I forget the exact math but on 4xLRM5 it is like using an LRM25 or something like that). Stacking LRM5 is very effective, and they tend to core out an enemy for even better efficiency.

I guess that you are mostly right. However, I have seen some higher Tiers players using Legendary 'Mechs too, especially if they are sufficiently powerful.

Clan LRMs do their rated damage exactly the same as Sphere ones. You might be thinking of Clan Streaks or ordinary SRMs, both of which do less damage than their Sphere counterparts; Clan Streaks do 1.7 dmg per tube and Clan SRMs do 2, where Sphere Streaks do 2 and standard Sphere SRMs do 2.15. The tabletop reference value would be 2 damage per tube for all of the above.

The reduction in damage on the SRMs is because Clans can stack them so much more easily; this also applies to LRMs but the stream fire stands in place of a flat damage reduction and does the job reasonably well.
