Yeah, the VIP has never fought back. I don't think it's technically equipped with weapons. It also travels more slowly than the 48 kph an Atlas should be capable of. I'm not sure if it's all the way down at 32, but it's somewhere in there.
Personally, it would make more sense if it was a vehicle convoy. That's part of where I keep getting the Mobile Field Base from MechWarrior 3 from, as an idea. That entire game was basically one big Escort mission, because you had your supply trucks that you had to keep safe, while clearing mission areas of enemies and objectives. If it could repair teammates, it might even feel "worth protecting" to those more cynical among the MWO community. There was the occasional backstab during the original Escort days of someone who got out-voted on the Mode selection, and just team-killed the VIP so they could play a different match. Finally, if the Company Commander (Battle Grid) could tell the convoy where to go, you could avoid situations where you
know the enemy team is camped just over the Crimson Strait Saddle, and all you can do is watch as the VIP just marches up and over, like a complete idiot. One of the things that was always a surprise to the attackers and defenders, alike, was the evac zone. You don't know where that's going to be until the dropship arrives, usually (I think if you're close enough to see it, there's green smoke, but that only shows up a minute before the Dropship does). The defenders should start the game with that marked on their minimap.
