Like the title asks: Why do people put flags on their mechs? It is literally telling the enemy where you are! Your sitting behind a rock in the Canyon and no one can see you. They CAN see the flags sticking out over the top of the rock though! It's like the person is just asking the enemy to shoot them!

Is it just me that thinks this?

because they dont know any better perhaps or perhaps they simply dont care. i dont really like most of the bolt ons. many of them make your mech stick out like a sore thumb.

Fun. They put them on for fun. This is a low skill game that's played largely for fun rather than to be competitive. Hence seeing pink mechs and other goofy ****.

If you don't like it don't do it but some people enjoy them.

Because I can.

The first time I used these things, it was right after that infamous town hall meeting where Russ said the MWO and mechpacks can't sustain the company. At that time I thought the game's going down maybe 1-2 years, so I had ton of MC, and figured I'd decorate my favourite mech MAD-IIC-D while I can. I brought all the largest decorative items and slapped them on.

After doing that I noticed the winrate went down...it's kinda weird because the moment enemy shoots me, I lost most of the stuff. So you'd think after the first few shots the enemy would stop concentrating on me.

I did keep them quite a long time, but eventually I had to remove them.

Things I noticed, besides how it somehow highlights you hard for the enemy.

It's an elaborate system. There's so many of them, they've been doing them for quite some time. Yet nearly no one used them, as they all cost quite a lot of MC.
Because they don't have health, they drop so easily. Specially with an assult, nearly no one, including your teammates, see them. I wish the'd be more sturdy or possibly permanent.

Currently one of my Locust has silly wings and bull horns.

One of the most epic games I ever had was in a hot pink FLE-15 armed with 2MPL & 3ML

YMMV

Lore; I guess they like lore!

It's great to see them hiding behind rocks in Grim Plexus, with the flat sticking out behind them!

It's funny to be so absolutely obnoxious like that. You better believe I have every god damn Kurita ******* thing I can plaster on my Li Dok To, and plan to do the same on every single one of the Otomo mechs.

People simply need to know I believe in the way of the Dragon...pls ignore my faction badge.

BTW, pls let us put Kurita bolt-on **** on the Kasai. It feels wrong and empty without them.

There is nothing wrong with this mindset, but the game is very skill based, as new players find out after a few days. As of why the flags and things? There comes a point where it doesn't matter, as you wont see me anyway or if you do its cause I want you to, so why not have fun.

When I say low skill I'm comparing it to games like StarCraft, League, various fighting games, or CSGO.

Yes, it takes some skill to play MWO but its not as demanding as other competitive games and the competitive community isn't nearly as large.

Well at least it appears they pooled like items together instead of oh, Chassis 1 has wings Chassis 2 has the same wings but they're different wings then 1s so you can't trade them around. But now you can!

Agreed. Many of my mechs are painted in very bright tiger stripe pattern. While that MIGHT work for tigers hiding in tall grass, most of our maps lack tall grass and color blind opponents. Posted Image
