I preferred playing the laser loadout because it's brain-dead, but I encountered a surprisingly varied number of enemy loadouts from the creative to the silly. The primary faults of the mech are the XL300 on a 60t mech and the fact nearly all the hardpoints are confined to the arms so it's not that hard to stick it.

there are so many capable free mechs in this game that pay to win arguments never seem to hold water.
the notion that this month's free mech is pay to win is either a bad joke or unfortunately more like noob ignorance. hellbies have been historically strong but i dont think they hold on to that rep. all for the price of zero dollars and about 20 games.
i sold mine for the mechbay.i kept the omnipods though. i probibly already have a set, but its not like i need the cbills or anything.

It's the third Hellbringer Prime that I own. XD Thor and Loki have been two of my favourite Clan mechs since the original 3050 TRO came out.
It can be decent. I was just poking fun at the OP calling the Black Hawk KU the 'April' mech.

i usually dont keep duplicates. i have too many mechs and it makes organization a nightmare.

That is why I declared it mid overall
in the hands of the more able, it is a lot of fun
in the hands of the people I see in tier 5 it really is easy to eliminate because they stare a lot
But I feel they're performing at a normal level for themselves, if they CAN'T get 1200 damage then there is a problem
If they get 1200 every game, that is harder to tell but it'd be something to keep an eye on
If tier 5s are getting great scores, we need to watch it more but I don't have metrics
Like for example, as a tier 5, when the KDK 3 came out in 2016, I jumped from tier 3 to tier 1 in a week of 8 hours a day playing (I'm disabled) with 4 UAC10s just getting huge scores
If we have a KDK 3 level fiasco, then we can declare without metrics
Waves of complaints also make a difference
Otherwise, without metrics I can only give my opinion on what I see and what I do, I can get a great score with it, just hang out and poke people with fast AC5s
That isn't much more FP than a Scattershot with 3 LBX2, which I just killed an XL AS7 who was trying to kill me with a AC20 at 600m who stood there for a long long time while I was getting free damage with the insane splat
That is my perspective
For example I'd call the SR Aksum a high end mech for tier 5ers, the folk with no knowledge after years of playing on how to build a mech are going to be able to a lot better in this because they have less ways to screw it up since it can't hold LRMs. Worst case scenario with the folk that like dakka but are tier 5, they put a garbled funk on with low ammo or all MGs, but a guy with cAC5 + cUAC2 + cUAC10 + cUAC20 is something I've have seen myself and though it made my brain hurt it was effective enough with a dude using a stick so that is why I have this opinion
Omni pods are already hard enough for people, let along knowing the quirks that are So8 or pod specific

Yep, you can expect to run out of ammo after 1000 damage or so, unless you're super stingy with your shots, or you go AC/2s where you can have far more ammo than you can shoot in a single match. AC/5s are better. You can run some of the Nova laser vomit builds on it, where there's cross over between Clan and IS laser weapons.
But her glaring weaknesses are the exact same as the Nova... most weapons in the arms, ammo explosions mean you're hooped, and if you get sneezed on, parts of the mech come off. But it is lots of fun if you can stay alive. Ac/5s fire at a ridiculous rate of about 2 shots per second. It is glorious.

The laser vomit is a more serious build to fight against, definitely.
Ballistic builds seem to be doing okay against players trapped in fat and slow assaults where the Black Hawk can effectively land most of it's ammo payload, but that kind of seems to be their effective niche. Agile, and preferably jumpy, lights and mediums in particular, needn't be too worried about ballistic builds from my experience.

I've shot several light and medium mechs out of the air with mine, so uh, don't sniff at ballistics too heavily, they will get you.

Same. I was very hesitant about going the ballistic route with these. But I'm finiding it's not that bad. Mine has 2xLAC5 and 2xERML. Doing pretty decent with it and I'm a **** player lol.

I routinely see this mech getting 900+ damage and often see 1,200+. Both lasers and ballistics are over-quirked.

For ballistics, I seem to do better with 1xLB10X and 7xERSL. Yeah, I know the weapons don't sync up all that well but I've gotten some decent drops as a second-line mech escorting assault-class mechs and adding to their firepower.
I considerer it more of a conflicted medium that a heavy.

Yeah, she's a medium heavy for sure.
May I suggest 2xLAC/5 + 2×LPPC?
Twin AC/5s is hilarious.
I'm sure some medium/small or small/micro laser combos will work handily.
You can probably rip builds right off the Nova and they'll work well enough, barring any differences between Clan and IS weaponry.

ive found the blackhawk to be rather mediocre myself. the free mech and the 6 stone rhinos i bought for cbills far outperform it.

The 100 tonne clan assault far outperforms the 60 tonne IS heavy with the locked XL? No way! Tell me this isn't true!
I enjoyed the Blackhawk in the 90s Virtual Worlds pods. It brings back happy memories. It also performs very well for many people- well enough it's getting nerfed in this week.
