new to game, about 3 months, and it is AMAZING. honestly. all i ever wanted out of a mechwarrior game since the old offline pc games. i should have built a gaming pc years ago. one thing is really bugging me however: mechwarrior is always half about playing around in the mechlab with different builds. there are now so many unique variants locked away from monthly events or whatever. as a new player that means i never get to play around with those variants, and i'm sure there are plenty of vets that like didn't play for 3 months in the summer of 2018 and now will never get some variant. so, im sure it's been discussed but search isnt working and i have to ask. any reason they aren't selling the old event mechs for MC, or would anyone have a large issue with that? not trying to ruffle feathers, and not asking for like founder mech skins or anything, just the unique hardpoint/quirk mechs.

pros:
- a more inviting game for new and returning players
- more build variety dropping into matches is fun
- more money into the game

cons
- people who did the events are less happy with the event mechs if everyone can get them. this is not nothing and i don't want to down play it. however, you did get it for free so that is good, and they don't seem to be meta builds. do people care if someone can pay cash for like the one laser jenner or the commando with a few ct and head energy hardpoints? would changing the mech ID to something unique help, like from COM-D03(H) to COM-D03(P2WNooB)? because i will rock that.

Almost every single variant, including event, loyalty and legendary mechs, goes on sale for MC and/or cbills. There's just a six month or so wait.

The only exceptions are cosmetic and xp/cbills boosted variants of standard mechs. Ie gold mechs, Sarah's Jenner, some event camps. The actual chassis still becomes available.

And a warm welcome to MWO!

Not to worry... the COM-D03 standard variant (with no CBills bonus boost) should become available for CBills in a few months time!

If full zombie mode is what you want, you can start saving up for that! ;)

(Do be aware that COM-D03 in full zombie mode with energy/laser vomit builds do not have enough heat sinks for heat dissipation, so full zombie mode is a bit more painful than it looks).

yeah that one looks fun, and thanks for the tip. maybe i'll keep a smaller weapons fire group off to the side for better harassment, if i get lucky enough to still have a zombie running.

Just buy the Orion IIC pack and put standard engine in it.

best build I found for it is 2x SNPPC despite needing to shave armor and use an XL, it just doesn't have the armor to do the face time that lasers require.

The zombie build is fun though.

Never sell a mech, I've regretted it every time I did!

As a new player, I recommend using faster mechs until you get experience. Big slow mechs will get you killed until you learn the maps and the patterns of how people move. Maybe you are more of a natural than I am, but it took me years to get good with assaults.
