I went on vacation for a week and came back and now I have really bad rubber banding issues.
I had my son who also occasionally plays test it and he is also rubber banding the same.
I have been playing over a year with my current ISP and no issues.
both me and my son use wired connections. I have rebooted my Unifi gateway and my network ISP modem.
Speed tests and pings look completely normal. In game ping responses during gameplay(f9) look normal, no packet spikes.
The rubber banding makes it nearly unplayable.
Any suggestions on real tests or changes that might be a solution would be appreciated.

- Does it happen with all drops or only some of them?
- Note down the game server for drops.
- Do you lease both modem and gateway from your ISP?
- Bypass the router/gateway and connect directly to the modem
- DNS flush?
- Are you able to use your smartphone as a hotspot? If so, disconnect the modem from the router. and try for troubleshooting purposes. Different routing from your computer to the servers, both the authentication (always connected) and the respective game servers.
- Using VPN? If so, turn it off. If not, and you have one that may come with your Security software, use it for troubleshooting at least.

I suspect it is an ISP issue too but it will be practically impossible to get them to research and do anything about it.

There is another thread of a player who has to use a VPN or he will d/c during a drop - https://mwomercs.com...less-i-use-vpn/
https://protonvpn.com/free-vpn
Avira Phantom VPN
Hide.me
iTopVPN
And no, it is not a resolution, it is simply a workaround. Free to use VPN will have restrictions in place, such as can only use one device, limited selection of servers, etc.
Who is your ISP and general location? Search for your ISP + gaming issues, etc. If it is internally with the ISP, MWO will likely not be the only game affected, whereas if it is a router management service, ie one of those hops when doing a tracert could be having issues, which would be outside both you and your ISP control. If it was PGI servers, there would be more threads or posts galore /shudders.

I tried free Proton VPN but it disconnects and doesnt support p2p connections.
My kids play ROBLOX and Fortnite and don't have any issues. Just MWO has the rubber banding.
I dont think MWO has enough player base to get a good dataset. Since no one else appears to be complaining about rubberbanding im kind of at a loss.

With no actual issues with the other two games, ISP issue could probably be ruled out. And said games would not be taking the same pathing as MWO once that data leaves the ISP network and hits the backbone. Try a different VPN? This is for testing/troubleshooting while launching and dropping into MWO without running any other programs, essentially do a clean boot.
- What are your actual in-game pings and FPS?
- And simply for short one or two drops testing, does the rubber banding occur at all times of the day?
- Security/Antivirus program? Recent updates may have reset settings. Set it up to ignore MWO game directory from active scanning
- Question, and just double checking, in the mechlab confirming there is no slight delay in moving and saving/making changes to mechs?
- Effects when dropping into the Testing Grounds?
- Dropping into the Academy?
- Or when you and your son drop into a Private Match?

PS. You can ask a mod to move this thread to workaround, so it doesnt get lost in threads of this subforum, as well as makes it easier to find for those who may run into several issues.

When playing a match if I run a continual ping to na1.mwomercs.com I get 3-4 packet drops out of about 400 pings in a match, each packet loss corresponds to a rubber banding event in the game as I am watching the pings in a separate monitor.
If I run another continuous ping to something like www.google.com while playing the match there is 0 packet loss to google during the match.
The packet loss is exclusively to the MWO server.

I've had similar issues in the past though usually very intermittent. Usually my mtr runs showed drops somewhere along the path to mwomercs.com but prior to the actual destination. I'm on the west coast and did a test connecting to nordvpn via an instance in chicago (a little bit after where my drops were occurring in the path) and the packet loss went away.
In this case there was some weird path issue with my ISP or some peer of my ISP along the way as that would alleviate it entirely (and didn't seem to change my usual ping more than 1 or 2 ms.) The connection to the vpn endpoint took a different path and worked around the problematic router...
For what it's worth, I haven't been seeing this recently myself.
[edit: I'm not trying to shill for nordvpn here but that did totally work for me and, while not free, it's really cheap]
