There's how many 'Mechs in MWO? Like, zoinks Batman. There's always going to be underappreciated gems nobody uses which can nevertheless perform very well. Every time I sit down and play for more than a couple of games, I wind up spotting somebody in something nobody ever sees anymore and half the time I'm reminded "Oh yeah, that thing can be a total monster if built right, can't it?" It's part of the fun of having so goldanged many of the things in the game, even if half of them are basically weirdly shaped clones of the other half.

The fact that I, as a Tier 4 player, regularly have to compete against Tier 1 players shows that there is no longer a functioning matchmaker.

well if you have a T1 in a group with some T5s you might be matched up with some T1s

also after so many minutes the que is opened up
so again you might see higher tier players

its a strange MWO world

This is an interesting claim. It is also one that I see made frequently.

I recently ran an account from Tier 5 all the way into Tier 2. I can say that there is a clear difference in my performance in each of the tiers, backed by data. If, while in Tier 4, I was regularly matched with Tier 1, and assuming having some Tier 1 players in a match makes that much of a difference, I would expect my numbers not to be so different as I hit Tier 3 and then again when I hit Tier 2. They pretty clearly are different.

Anecdotally, I do not recall running into too many Tier 1 personalities in Tier 4. The groups thing is a wildcard, though. I do only use the North American server, so maybe this situation is different with the other two. From my thousands of games, I feel like Tier 3 can be the most unpredictable tier to be in as one can get pulled into Tier 1 matches or end up in Tier 5 matches, depending on population levels.

extreme tiers do have steeper skill gradients. because the exceptionally good and the exceptionally bad are rare and need to include some moderatly good/bad players to simply be able to have enough players to form drops. its worse when you consider the skill gradient for any match will span 3 tiers at minimum. a t5 has to fight t4s and t3s. difference in skill between 5 and 3 is sufficient to drive a stomp.

in t3 there are up tier matches and down tier matches, and mathematically there should be mid tier matches (but dont quote me on that). a third (and this is nonlinear so take that with a grain of salt) of your games are fair and a third are easy mode and a third are hard mode. but in t5 there are only down tier matches and everyone is better than you. if you are in t4 however you are still going to have fewer t5s than t3s just because the latter are more abundant.

a t1 player in a group full of t5s the best thing the mm can do is put this match in an up tier game, and then pad the team out with extra t1s and 2s to compensate. this is actually a pretty useful config where a t1 will be trying to train some new players. idk what the game does in this case but i doubt it is to drop it in a down tier game unless you are playing in the oc deadzone (this seems to happen when the west coast us goes to bed but before the aussies wake up) and the valves are wide open (then its an all tier game).

OP's problem is he thinks he's entitled to wins no matter what dumb **** he gets up to and any time said dumb **** doesnt get him results he blames everyone around him.

Imagine IRL situation: you can only play football on some public stadiums, where you can only play it with random players from around the world with various skills starting from street football up to world championship. Would it be fair for you to play against world championship level players? Would football be so popular in this case, if it wouldn't be enough to have 10$ ball and pair of friends to play it? Popular game = accessible game.

I guess, problem is caused by merging solo and group queues together. That's when matchmaking became much worse. As always, devs sacrifice majority to cater to minority. If it's not enough players in group queue to play with - just disband your group and join solo queue. Or sit in group queue forever. Play as anybody else instead of ruining game for other players. Current compromise leads this game to death.

A thing you could do instead of repeatedly dying on the world's weirdest hill is is perhaps consider your good actions and bad actions in your matches and do more of the former and less of the latter. Right now your career W/LR is .94 which means only a small change is needed to bring it up to even, or more than even. Splitting the queue and/or removing the matchmaker leads to a faster death whether you like it or not. There's a reason the group tonnages are being adjusted lately and it's to reduce the amount of influence they have on the game and it happened because people brought up that groups can bring too much tonnage and sway too much of the match, and they did so WITHOUT going into an almost conspiratorial diatribe.

i really dont think these are the issues driving game death. uptake is simply not canceling out fatigue. players with worse stats than op are sticking around, not complaining and are having fun. but people grow tired of old games faster than new players are discovering it. but they dont stay because the game is old and they dont buy anything for the same reason. thats why pop <10k is "here be dragons" territory. we dont know what percentage of the remaining population are stalwart enough to see it through to the end, or whether or not that is enough to keep the servers up.

i suspect we will see a short lived peak now that we got the last of the mw2 mechs. now if we can get the rest of the gbl mechs.

Im not putting the words in your mouth. You are. You are fixated on matchmaking and you consistently blame it for your own losses; but your stats, and your own testimony reflects that you self-identify as a low skill player and feel entitled to live up to that identity, and thus, regard anyone who ever beats you for any reason as being some kind of illegal/unfair cheater or exploiter. In other words, you think you are allowed to win all the time no matter who you play, and if you ever play anyone who can beat you, the game tricked you into losing. These are essentially your words. Do not run from them.

Your imaginary situation does not reflect the game, therefore this is a non sequitur. It's irrelevant. You are not being forced to play against world championship level players. You insist on repeating this lie and it is still not true.

The combined queue is literally a compromise that caters to everyone without overly benefiting anyone. You are not being victimized.

As I said above, the game would have shut down in 2019-2020 if they had not consolidated the queues into one. This move absolutely bought MWO at least 5 years of extra life and stability. Its not leading to the death of the game, its literally keeping it alive. You're lying.

I did have this problem against some group which too dominating.

Being on losing streaks (probably 6 - 8), last sunday I tried to play some game.
lost on first and second match to a group, the same group.
try to break 5 mins to avoid that group, play a match, another lose.
play again, met the same group on my first-second match but as same team, we win. easily.
play 5th match, that group become my opponent, we lost.
I press alt+F4.

So yeah, some group are too powerful.

Edit : that group also have highest damage / match-score
