The new map luthien totally sucks. People have found a way to exploit this map. For one they are using sinc drop to get more veteran players on their side and roll the opponent. No matter what mech I use or how well I do. The team I am on looses 80% of the time. This only happens on the new map. The enemy on this map is always better coordinated. They attack from multiple angles leaving no where to seek cover. I am just an average mwo player and recently have not been having fun playing this game. People playing in groups have an unfair advantage over the rest of us solo players.

My experience with the map is different. I actually like it. I'm a solo player also. But I don't think having friends is an unfair advantage. Maybe be more socialable and get some friends?

The map has nothing to do with any of this -- people only choose the map after they've already sync'd the drop, for example. And the perception you're always fighting on the losing side is usually just that, a perception; the matchmaker is just as likely to assign you to a strong team as it is a weak one. Unless you yourself play so badly that your presence on a team is an active liability (or so well it's universally an asset!) your W/L will, over time, tend to average out at around 1.0. It certainly isn't more likely to bias on any particular map.

A warm welcome to MWO for the both of you!

Some mechs are unshackled to truly shine!
The Timber Wolf Howl TBR-H Legendary/Hero mech is one of them!
2x ATM12 + 2x ATM3 + 4x MG + TAG + JJ + XL350... goes at 75 kph
Fast enough to hunt for stragglers caught out in the open, and with JJ to pop up and down as needed...

This map rewards organized pushes due to the very open nature and ease of getting around. Also the layout even though there are plentiful map wide sight lines is mostly brawly in nature because those sight lines tend to be very narrow and don't have los to where most of the fights are happening. Now if you have a speedy jj mech you can find angles all day long and those types of lances seem to do the best on this particular map.

The Clanners failed to take Luthien, being forced off planet in disgrace.
The map movement though, it is important that the entire team does not get caught in the low ground/valleys. When most of tone team does get caught in the valleys, it is like shooting fish in a barrel. Think Canyon Network but more extreme but also more tall cover on the ridges and plateaus, thus no need to drop down low but simply get a bigger angle.
Also, Heat/Thermal helps can be helpful, particular with all of the trees. Cannot wait to see what the next update to the map will bring.

Not related to the topic, but I think this map is a bad idea.
The location where theta is in Conquest is really bad, and I believe that heading there means instant death.
Overall it is a very open map but the visibility is poor and the shielding feels a little less. So missiles feel very threatening.
The trees seem to disappear for players who have adapted some settings, which may be heaven for snipers.
The very large elevation differences, which are a feature of the map, are honestly just frustrating and uninteresting...
However, the map structure without the scenery and elevation differences is very interesting. Vertical movement paths (gimmicks like elevators and jump pads) would be great... I thought.

It isn't awful, but it does need work. I have had very mixed experiences in it. The better ones I was usually in a mech with longer ranged weapons. Slower mechs struggle on Luthien, in my experience. Mixed results with lights. It might be too hard to sneak around. Most of my games outside of the event queue have been the ususal "stand still and mash left mouse button" strategy. I don't particularly enjoy Domination on Luthien.

yeah i think the map has potential but needs some adjustment. got some floating trees that need fixed and could use more ramps out of the riverbed. i haven't had the chance to play it on conquest or domination ye so i can't say on those two modes. mid and long range (missiles mostly for me and) seem to work well enough. its all about finding the right positioning.

It's also ugly as hell. Auto generate landscapes give you better results than what Luthien is right now. These tools have been around even 12 years ago and I can confirm they work well, as I have worked with them myself......
Since it is marked as Early Access it shouldn't come up as often as it does. Completely lost interest playing the game.

Perhaps we will get the improved version of the map in January or February.
