id consider all but one of the solaris maps short to mid range. factory has enough cover to be effectively a short range map. sure a leg does kill their mobility but its not a game ender. the duelist i used had more armor in the leg than the st, so drilling the side torso would have wrecked my mobility just as well as a leg would (lfe) and id have lost one of my two hgrs knocking my 50 point alpha down to 25. 55 points of armor as opposed to 60.

Yep, and you'd not believe how many blue laser builds are running in this event. >.> If they can keep the brawl build from getting to them, they have a chance.

Tried it three times. Found I don't have a mech that is sufficient to the meta by being curb stomped. The cave map ******* sucks ***!

Yeah, I stayed away from that map. The other maps are generally decent.

Well, the first day was fun, but now on mech factory it's Bushwackers all the time.

SPL Stormcrows and SRM Arctic Wolves have been the strongest contenders so far for consistent 1v1 groundfighting.

I'm having a time being a Snub Cicada with all the Jets taking 20 damage potshots as I flit around.

I'm seeing a lot of Hunchback IIC with SRMs, I'm guessing it's a choice between armor + Jets or speed?

I've used a few things with varying sucess; Viper with 12 AP-Gauss and a flamer to get a feel for what light play will be like next week; Trebuchet with the laser quirks that got buffed then instantly nerffed i think will be a strong contender for the low cover snip maps; and a Nova with 2 flamers, 4 MGs, and 10 micropulss can do Very Bad Thingtm if you can get close enough, so i expect it to be my go to for the cave map.

I got called a p2w loser for digging out my ancient HBK Grid Iron with its insane gauss CD... running with a heavy gauss naturally heh

I mean come on, I'm not the best twister so if you'd rather face hug and not even attempt to pop my massive ST... shrug

This! Flamers are definitely the winning weapon this round. I'm running a Nova with 4x MG, 6x MicroP and 4x Flamers. I went with the 4x Flamers to get that heat on asap. I could add another 2 lasers but tbh with medium mech armour it's not really needed and keeps my own heat in check a bit better.

Viper ( And probably other mechs that can jump similarly) CAN get up top on the Steiner Arena.

I did it once by accident, by jumping on the rock faces, and could never replicate it. But when I did I could just stay up top and poke almost within the optimal range of APGauss, popping people for 20 damage as a poptart while they could try to out damage me with lasers/RACs assuming they had the torso angle to do so.

Has to be the rock face. The Platforms all have an invisible wall that stops you from going higher.

Nice job killing me with that Grid Iron Grey, I've dusted mine off now. Posted Image

The HBK-IIC with 2xUAC20 isn't bad either, albeit spicy.

I'm finding Novas to be a cursed prospect in the Steiner Arena.

There is a LONG stretch of open ground you have to walk across.

The Nova lacks the armor quirks, speed, or defensive hitboxes needed to not have one component isolated as people alpha you down from range.

It also can't fire full braces of small lasers in 1-2 punches without quickly overheating, against builds that are already running very shoot and twist weapons to minimize facetime while also running much colder. Equip LESS lasers, and your damage output is now worse in addition to still being DoT.

Stormcrows in Mech factory were much better with this in terms of hitboxes ,armor, heat, and running speed, with the caveat they could not jump around to get consistent beads on you.

Kintaros and Bushwackers are VERY sturdy mediums that will outtrade you at their desired range, while running fast enough to make escape a problem.

Ironically , Novas, the "Alpha strike and hope you kill the other guy before heat is an issue" mech, aren't great at fair 1v1s when laser burn time and having actual humans at the helm is a thing.

i did ok in mine, i run it with 1 S.B. Guass and 3 MLs. still only got the one victory in it our of 6 matches (got killed in two shots in one match so it didn't count. the somehow hit my rear armor from the front twice). got another win in my Griffon-2N (4 MRM-10, 2 LPPC) honestly only got that win because the other player cooked himself. we were both cherry red CT and i twisted my back to him to cool enough for one last shot and he just blew himself up.

mediums are still just as boring as the others. only saw Hunchback IIC and Bushwhackers.

when lights come around i might just do my matches in my annoyance Urbie (its gonna be some flavor of Urbie as its the only Light mech i play.

XL 300, 2x Snub PPC, Jumping Cicada is obnoxious in Boreal, funnily enough.

I have the speed to run to cover on the opposite spawn. Then I can play up close against a ranged build, or poptart behind the ice blocks. High mounts mean as long as I can see the enemy, I can hit em.

RAC Bushwackers need to spin up, which means they can't effectively fire back. Same goes with lower mounts, or anything that can't also jump over. 300XL means I can control what side I'm going to come out first.

Main threats are always the uncannily hyper accurate AC5/LPPC Wackers, and AC20+Snub PPC builds

Hey DoucheNugg3t,

Nice dropping against you last night. I got killed by some streak boats so I decided to test them out. The KTO-19 is giga-quirked for them (please don't touch the mech Cauldron!) but i imagine other rides are good too. I never run streaks in QP because they aren't very effective for me but in S7, boy howdy, they rock.

I went up against some mechs boating Thunderbolt 5 missiles and they were hard to deal with too.

I thought it would be the Nova that would be doing things for me in the caves, but no, surprisingly it's the Lacerator with 2 LBX10 and 2 flamers that has been the MVP on that map for me.

Edit: And now it seems that a cheesedick build for the bushwacker has been found, 4 MG (that are doing 2 DPS each due to quirks), and 3 Rocket 20's to crack you torso wide open, all while moving over 90kph. I'm seeing fresh to dead in less than 3 seconds. Event was fun while it lasted.

I've been having some success on Liao Jungle with the SHD-2D. Quirked for Gauss cooldown you can get off a lot of shots at the beginning of a match with a S.B. Gauss rifle. When the fight gets close, 3xSRM4 helps out. Decent cooldown for regular ACs too so I might try it with an AC10. Slightly less dps but faster cycle rate for the gun, which I find useful in a close-range fight.

It struggles a bit against SRM Arctic Wolves but overall is a decent ride.
