8x uSPL Firemoth is surprisingly a fun ride.

Still dies to APG and Surprisingly CSRM bombers, but when it's a dogfight, it's a dogfight.

Speaking of jump jets, more than ever they’re a thing now and I’ve had some really good fights flying all over the place trying to get a shot in while avoiding return fire. Steiner Colosseum will be an interesting map.

Lights: Lot's of 35 tonners. Sucks when trying to skill up Pirahna's!

Pattern so far is if the other person is just here to farm wins, they pack APG/Streaks.

The former counters the latter hard, but the latter just exudes I don't want to play give me win energy. You have to Out DPS the streak boat to win, because you're not going to lose the lock reliably.

I've just taken to giving them the win when I find em. Easier for everyone involved.

Streaks will be even worse on Steiner or Boreal, although you can kite better on Steiner so you can stay out of Streak range. Other than extra ammo, I don't think any light mechs have giga-quirks for them. Faster mechs will do better on the open maps I should think.

In factory I decided on an Adder Prime with 1x MPL, 4x APG, 4x HMG, 2x SSRM6. Had pretty decent success, around 7/10, against all sorts of different builds (including the full APG Warthog). Had a very sus one that took me out in 3 perfectly accurate CT strikes though... is aimbotting still a thing?

Anyway not sure what to go with for Steiner. Maybe an IS light with a TB launcher, some lasers and MGs? Posted Image

8x HSL Firemoth in Steiner can really shine doing boom and zoom runs.

2 hits of 4 HSL in the initial trades to try and get a component open.

Then peel off with MASC behind cover to cool down, wait for their shot, and then zap for almost 50 damage hoping you rip something off.

4 HML doesn't do it, predictably. Folks are too small, too quick, and know not to stare at it.

In hindsight this build is probably supremely not fun to DEAL with, so it's time to shelve it for something more interactable. Don't want to be the same kind of "UGH" Fight that APG boats are.

5x ATM3 Jenner IIC with Max JJs and an XL255 can outrun APG Adders, and jump over them to keep raining down. The holy grail has been found.

The 1v1Q at Wright was very disappointing...
I was told beforehand that there would be more firestarters and jenners, but in fact it is 95% warthogs...

You will see Cougars running similar APGauss + Plasma Cannon, Jenner IICs with SRMs, and some Firestarters/Urbanmechs with Snub PPC + Magshot.

Maybe even Oxides.

But because of:
  • The overwhelming superiority of massed AP Gauss doing 2 Damage each, at almost 300m, where most fights will happen
  • The ability to use 10+ AP Gauss to do 20 damage for very little heat, with very quick cooldown, in precise locations all at once
  • Clan SRM Weight vs Damage possibly crippling an enemy in one shot
  • Light Mech durability compared to heavier chassis
  • Most players not playing light mechs, and instead using whatever looks best the same way they would pilot a medium or heavy chassis ( i.e. Run straight ahead and fire)
  • Inner Sphere XL Risk vs Clan XL
You will see a trend.

The open maps are honestly going to be the best maps for anti-AP Gauss, because you can use a fast mech to it's full potential with minimal cover to keep them beyond effective range.

As maps get more tight, with more cover, you will see even more APG, because it rewards peek and shoot, with not much to punish.

I'm just hoping APG doesn't become the target of ire in this artificially controlled environment that does not reflect the normal 12 v 12 gameplay. I'm all for a temporary ruleset for events like this, but I can just feel people getting emotional and ruining a good weapon for light mechs against other lights, at close range, making it even worse against larger targets.

I have made so many cbills in this event. It has been awesome. Much more fun and enjoyable than the original Solaris mode.

Probably bias, but SRM4 + Magshot Huginn in Ishiyama is pariing up well against Adders.

Might be because the torso is funnily shaped, making it survivable.

Might be because the average player gravitated toward a cookie cutter build, but cant use it.

You can hug them or run through their 'mech to shoulder past them. On Mediums, just grinding against my 'mech was enough for other players to break my Streak lock-on, even though I had my arm reticle on their 'mech the whole time.

As well, the balance folks are generally well aware of how different Solaris is from normal gameplay - and that an outsized proportion of the participants are competitive players (if my experience is any guide) - so if we do see any adjustments to weapons after this, it's going to be based on regular gameplay telemetry and demographics, and not Solaris results.

as much as i hate playing light mechs i actually got 3 wins out of the 8matches i played (had 3 where i didn't break 50 match score and one was a victory.). i found it was mostly Jenner IICs. i was running my MRM-30/2 ER SL Urbie. i am pretty sure i won my matchs just because of my massive amount of armor for a light mech. i did go one jumpy ******* (i wasn't paying to much attention to what kind as it was pretty hectic.). the most annoying was a someone running stealth armor. he got one good hit on my legs early so i said **** and put my back in a corner to wait him out. he waited till the timer was almost dune to show himself. it ended in a draw but i was the only one who broke 50 match score as i did manage to do a LOT of damage to him at the end, one more hit i think i would have had him. i consider that a tentative win.

Looks like the event is over, so when will the leader boards be published?

The event has another 16 hours to go as of the time of this post.

A ridiculously (in a good way) lucrative event up to now. I've been able to skill up a dozen mechs in each weight class, using mostly xp earned and I'm still up over 200 million c-bills. Add to that 68 war horns and 1400 GSP.

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

Weird, the Event button disappeared from my hanger page, reloading the game brought it back though.

Yep, tech support 101, the first question is always: Have you turned it off and back on again?
