high tier players face other high tier players, such players know not to stare for too long. when you are low tier their are just more players saying "shoot me in the face" with their staring and general inability to twist off damage. of course if mm is working well that day there is also fewer people with good aim who can take advantage of easy targets.

Have you forgotten Herod's Guillotine thread from a few months ago? Tier one player head shotting other high tier players. The idea that Head shots are only a feature of low Tiers has been repeatedly disproved. Herod, Orion, Spudsl, etc... Anyone who thinks its only seal clubbing or rare cheese should put the head shot alarm on with a sound mod, they will hear a headshot alert nearly every match. Of course if folks don't like being wrong I doubt they would enjoy the headshot alert reminding them they were wrong dozens of times a day.

not saying high tiered players cant do it. herod is evidence enough for that. nor am i saying its confined to lower tiers. im just saying the dynamics of headshotting vary based on skill level. all tiers get headshots, but headhunting is a skill that must be practiced. i figured it was common knowledge that mm tends to split up high and low tier players. in mid tier you end up with both, though usually not in the same match. so being able to tell high and low skill players apart is critical to successful headhunting in midtier. you cant just yolo and hs like in solaris. with headshots earning an easy 500mc in the new event, i am going to put my hs skills to work.

frankly i never needed an alarm. just go all drunken boxing with your torso.

Like Nothing mentioned, if you think tier 1 players are getting mainly tier 1 lobbies on the regular, then I don't think you've played at tier 1 any time within the last 7-9 years. Especially given Herod is probably grouped half the time. No one is running around getting consistent headshots against players consistently in high levels of comp. It does happen from time to time but is nowhere near a common occurrence.

best time to hunt heads is off peak because then you get a good variation of players. gameplay is usually *** off peak so its a perfect time to go head hunting on that alone.

but im going to lose a ton of t2 progress getting that 500mc.

idk, but looking at patch notes seems devs hate headshots.

numbers time: max structure bonus from skills = 33%, max armor 18%
default values head stucture 15 points, max armor 18 points
--> 15x1.33 + 18x1.18 = 41.19 health so lets say you need atleas 42 pinpoint for single shot kill

for a time only DWF-C and some others broke this rule with extra head armor or stucture

NOW last few patches we have seen FULL BODY quirks meaning head too on many mechs, usually all variants.

It does not take too much of a buff to make one shot impossible, dual HGR is only 50 AND even measly 7 extra stucture makes you now immune to hs from dual heavy gauss.
we have seen full body quirs of 15, 16, and 20.

bit of a rant but pls stop ruining my playstyle, i need my dopamine hits

4 ac10s used to be enough. though many players do strip head armor, especially on lighter mechs, and a lot of players put ammo in the head to make it extra spicy. if you move well and seldom get head shot then why not use the head to get that extra half ton. but i figure i get more hs than i give, and dont need to adjust my builds any (except to maximize ppfld of course), but some might.

oh no, they dont hate headshots. they just like "simplifying the quirk list of vehicles" because they think mwo players are dyslexic which is partially valid you ask me, but still doesn't change the fact that the approach is rather hamfisted, careless, and haphazard.

Are you talking about quirks, the full body quirks, or the entire MWO mechlab because tbh, this literally qualifies a significant portion of MWO's design.

You are spot on, don't know how often you are over here on these forums Pek but some of our forum "personalities" take being headshot very personal, and never miss a chance to say its 'no fun for me' or 'ruins the game'. Add in that the Cauldron's preferred playstyle isn't headshots its no big mystery why they decided to oil the squeaky "personalities".

On the plus side there are still tons of mech without the buffs and hey isn't hilarious how many people still skimp on head armor? hahaha!

Could you post forums links to posts in which such "personalities" who "never miss a chance to say its 'no fun for me' or 'ruins the game" keep saying that?

Interesting.

Could you post forums links to posts in which Cauldron expresses its disdain for headshots?

You know it's funny considering you have zero games on the account your posting with, what game do you play that they are ruining exactly? Or are you one of those people that has to play on alts because the game gets "too hard" when you go up in tiers? Unless not playing the game is actually your playstyle.

lmao... another conspiracy theory.

All body armor quirk was used on certain mechs that needed more all around survival including back armor while simultaneously cleaning up the quirk list. That's it.

I can assure you none of us give a hoot about who can or can't hit headshots. Additionally, while recognize headshots as a part of the btech/MW experience, getting headshot in a non-respawn pvp doesn't lend to the gameplay loop well.

*proof. I'd expect a tier one to have better English grammar.

Headcaps don't belong in a game like MWO.

There. I said it.

If I were developing MWO with what I know today? Headcaps wouldn't exist. And if they had to exist because of Tabletop Canonicity or whatever, then losing the head component would simply turn off your sensors/targeting, i.e. the stuff the head is supposed to contain other than the pilot.

Because while you are technically correct - headshots do, in fact, happen - this isn't Call of Duty where you can die thirty times in a match without issue, or where suffering a headshot is only two or three rounds of damage you were deprived of.

So you've never played any other more popular game with critical hits that removes a vehicle in 1 hit? War thunder, or even world of tanks, perhaps?
inb4 "hurdur mainstream bad games wot hahaha"

I'm glad you're not making balance or gameplay design decisions.

I mean that is much more common than headshots are, but still, different game. This doesn't have to mimic everything War Thunder/WoT oriented.

Personally I just think that it makes the game more interesting. If you have the skills to do it, then you should be able to. Lowering the skill floor because people cannot adapt makes for a less enjoyable game in my opinion because it simplifies the game for something that should rarely happen in the first place. It's not like people are popping headshots left right and center all the time.
