or hear me out
the smaller match size option is allowed to be used without people pooping their pants and smearing it on their screens as they screech in indignant fury

I’ve always found the rating system after its rework very strange — it’s much harder to gain points than to lose them for reasons beyond your control.
But now something absolutely ridiculous has happened. And it turns out this is actually how the system works.
.
You are 100% correct on being unsatisfied. It is like the system is saying - "hey, you sucked". But you know you rocked.
I did not read the whole thread, but the very 1st answer explains it well. I don't know for fact if that is how the system works, but It makes sense. This answer:

your PSR rating, is NOT a reward. It is simply a matchmaking metric....You are not being punished when it goes down....Realistically, it shouldnt even show you your PSR change at all, because showing it causes exactly this kind of confusion. You havent actually done anything wrong. You just think you have because your PSR went down.
.
And you know how you can tell that is true? Because Matchmaker is no good, "little end of match red or green arrow" is no good, system logic is no good. Otherwise, if it did some good quality work, you would not end up playing five matches in a row and seeing "End Of Round Screen" like this: 12 to 1, 11 to 1, 11 to 2, 10 to 2.
Personally, I am just thankful for MWO, Dev's work, Dev's creativity! I don't think they have the manpower to change this broken mechanism.
There might be a workaround, like: have the Matchmaker keep track of a real-time player performance(lets say past 5 rounds), and rebalance teams every round. Keep a cache of changes for the past 24 hours for reference.
And as far as the original concern about unfairness.
Forget about that arrow nonsense. You did good? Then GG. Have Fun. Your reward is - good time, not some arrow. Lets also put it this way - if you had a grand BAD time and NO fun at all - but the little arrow is green ... are you really happy with that?

Getting 3 solo kills out of 3 lights (but only doing 500 damage) is more impactful than farming 1 enemy assault for 800 damage but is hardly rewarded that much more.

Approximately 45% of the raw damage is converted to Matchscore points, so 200 dmg = 90 MS points. Kills, Solo Kills, KMDD are 20 MS points, iirc.
500 dmg = 225 MS
800 dmg = 360 MS
As for the following, you can get the kill shot, or do the most damage but some else gets the kill shot, or you get both for the Solo kill. iirc (looking for the details) if you get the solo kill, you also earn separate credits for the Kill and KMDD, but I am not able to locate those threads, and they would not be earlier threads in 2013, etc. Uggh.. someone needs to do some testing in the Private Lobbies
- Kill + KMDD (most damage vs others and mech dies)? + Solo Kill (doing both KMDD + kill shot)
- Kill assist is when you did damage to a mech that dies but did not meet any of the above criteria

"I want to destroy a system I dont understand" is not a position you should take. Its a laughable and juvenile lashing out because you think you're getting punished.

Your wrong. The system has been faulty since its inception and one of the reasons why it saw a reset back in 2020. Because its bad.
At the end of the day its a friggen XP bar that rewards damage farming and not smart play. I can efficiently kill mechs, lay ambushed and one shot them in the back but if you don't farm damage your PSR isn't going up.
Kill 4 mechs with 150 because you keep head chopping mechs like a mad god? Well too bad enjoy the red arrow you idiot. Should have been farming torso damage.
PSR isn't about skill, its about how much damage you can lay down in an active match and if your team can win that means you got a better chance of getting that green arrow.
You get punished for playing the game in a way the system doesn't understand. Its bad.

You arent getting punished. Whether it goes up or down doesnt matter. You should be happy either way, because the matchmaker will make your next match better than your last. PSR isn't a reward, you just think it is because you can see it. Frankly if there is any change to be made to PSR it is visibility and solely visibility. Nobody should know their tier and nobody should see their PSR change arrow because then people like you get mad, just like you're doing right now.

You're telling me that if I start focusing on headshots, I can pwn noobs AND sink to lower tiers to pwn noobs harder? Where do I sign up, that sounds rad!

I was playing in an SDR-5V,
It's been a while since I played.. what does that have? 2 ERmed lasers? 1 snub?
If you want to get your arrow to go up, you need to land between 30-40 shots before the round is over. That's it.

i say time and time again most of my green arrows are on losing matches. its usually that way because the team chose apathy as a tactic. you start screwing around because everyone else is screwing around then you are going to perform like everyone else. always be shooting.

This is a separate issue. PSR being weighted towards damage dealt and kills means an inherent bias towards high damage loadouts, and by extension heavier weight mechs, which can meet the threshold for ranking up faster and easier. That SDR-5V with ER Mediums will take 30 alpha strikes and 71 seconds of continuous firing (not accounting for heat) to hit 300 damage. A MDD-BA with UAC20s will take 4 alpha strikes and 17 seconds of continuous firing to do the same. I think most of us here would agree that getting 300 damage in the Spider takes some degree of skill while getting 300 in the Bandit is mostly a matter of remembering to double click.

I am unsure of what you are wanting here?
That spider 5v is right where it needs to be. (cept maybe....give the extremely low hardpoint mechs like this one and the jenner A a 100% small laser range quirk. Might open their build options while keeping the quirkiness.)
Yes you feel like you are busting your *** to get that 300 damage and 2 kills with 8 assists. You know what... you did. Did you do great as say against a Direwolf who farmed with ERLL all match? Nope. But did you do better than most Spider 5v pilots? I bet you did.
Equate your skill in that mech against fellow pilots of it and thats it. You will find it more rewarding. Also know...you probably are not the best at it. I know I am not. Just have fun with it. Thats what the mech is meant for. Not for necessarily going up in tier. Not in how the game works right now. Hell...how its always worked really.
Anyone who takes out a mech like the Spider 5v or the Jenner A need to realize you are taking them out for the fun of it. The absurdity of it. Your chances of being that star player is low. Especially if you equate damage output = some sorta skill. The mechs are not really meant for that.
Personally. I use those mechs to drop tier while actually kinda trying just because they cant really do much damage. The work needed to make em somewhat effective via harassment, objective counter pressure (if someone else is capping already), attention seeking, flanking, intel via enemy movement and weakness, and just all around being a PITA for the enemy...
Because nothing beats the squirrel high ways and byways....
