Man is supposed to be the "most dangerous game," even more so if you're going to bring a BB gun to hunt him.

I feel like they could just increase the rate of fire, cut the range and they would be excellent.

I always got rid of AC/2 as soon as possible. On the table top game it was very difficult to use it's range effectively due to terrain and unless there is a huge zoom feature with very fast projectiles in this game I really can't see how they can be effective.

Really, for the weight of an AC/2 you could equip 2-3 medium lasers and upgrade your engine to get enough speed to get to close range where you will have a better chance of hitting anyways.

AC2s are meant to harass from a long distance.
There will be no other use in this game for an AC2. Just. To. Harass. Attalongdistance!

This is true. And since they are limited to such a role as-is, they should at least reduce the friggin' weight on those things. I mean what is it an LRM or something?

I had to vote 'like 'em a lot!' I have crit/killed a vehicle/Mech/Fighter every game I have used an AC/2! There is just something disturbing when a Blackjack on shot kills a pristine Battlemaster with a 2 point hit that sets off the MG ammo!

My latest was a an AC2 hit on the pristine CT armor of a Firebee. Scored two engine hits on the poor thing! The pilot trying to compensate for the heat, ran into water& flooded the compartment and shut himself down!

Yeah I love AC2s!

When I see a mech with an AC/2, I see an easy kill.

edit: Speaking of course about Mechwarrior 4.

AC-2s were best used on table top for....well ok they had no real use unless you were playing on a large flat terrain map or could get to the top of the only mountain etc and snipe for almost zero damage and even then..2 point plinking isnt very effective.

Against aircraft or vehicles I think you could get lucky crits maybe..but again you needed extremely long cooridors of LOS.

In a video game? If they had extremly high rate of fire..an large open maps...maybe Id use one?

Jeez I just have to keep posting on this. They really seem like they have potential. It was just when I tried to use them it was like, ok I got my ac2, hit that dude way out, dang it bullet's moving too slow, ok get in closer, dangit not enough damage. Ok I'll mount 2 next time, dangit they're so heavy, ok cut some ammo, I'll shoot chainfire so I get more rapidfire, no wait I'll group em for more damage. Dangit still not enough damage. Ok next time I'll mount 3, ugh they're so frickin heavy, I'll just cut everything else off and mount 4 of 'em, minimum ammo and nothing else. Sweet I'm finally bustin'... aww **** I'm out of ammo. **** you ac2. wastin' my time on some lard*** machine guns.

Never been a fan of the AC/2 to be honest. It's not that I don't like light AC's, just that I feel the AC/5 and AC/5U make up in performance what they take up in weight and crits. The AC/5 still hits at a decent range, and in ultra mode can put out a pretty significant rate of fire.

That's all for tabletop anyway, for a game like this...jury's out until I can actually play with one. If each shell causes the enemy to rock, I will load up two with some accompanying large lasers and disrupt enemy brawlers so they're missing more at my big buddies.
