I realize you listed in the FAQ that this would be first person, in the cockpit, but are there really no intentions of adding a third-person view at all? I played all of MechWarrior 2 in first person (albeit in nightvision/IR mode or whatever because back then my computer couldn't load the textures well, so it was a good compromise) and all of MechWarrior 3 and 4 in the third-person view. I really enjoy being able to see my mech in the third person, and the majority of mech games I play (Virtual On, Armored Core, etc...) are third-person viewpoints.

I would like to ask the dev team to seriously consider implementing third-person view. Perhaps this is a balancing issue or an immersion issue, but looking out through a cockpit hud is not quite the same as being able to see my mech rampage across a map.

...and queue my heart being crushed. By a Daishi. *sigh*

Thanks for the fast response.

They had talked about possibly adding a round replay mechanic, which would most likely be in 3rd person (if that helps).

Not really. I have just never liked cockpit views in MechWarrior. They personally feel entrapping and just not as good. It is disappointing, but not back-breaking to hear their stance on 3rd person view as long as the game pulls through the classic MechWarrior feel and I'll just have to reminisce about the good old days of 3rd person stomping. :D

Personally, I hope we never see 3rd person view in this game. Just my opinion.

Do not like 3rd person either. Never drive my car in 3rd person view. 3rd person gives advantages, to those who are in 1st person.

It's mainly a balance issue.

I hear you.. and I agree to an extent.. it does feel a bit claustrophobic.. and limiting... but then.. that's kinda the point

I completely agree with the decision to stick with 1st person/cockpit view. It's more immersive, and what we look for in simulation-type games. Want to know what it's like to pilot a mech? Play MechWarrior Online :-) .

I have some questions.
Is the search function on these forums permanently broken?
If not, then why do you not use it to search for the information you are looking for, instead of creating a new topic?
Is this just pure stupidity or simple laziness?

I see 2-3 of these threads pop up every single day, so I find it hard to understand how it is so difficult to look for what as already been discussed to death hundreds of times over.

It's the third one. :)

Even if the forum's built-in search function weren't functional or effective, entering "mwomercs + "third person"" into one's search engine of choice would show each of the several related threads...

3rd person is for the weaks. Mechwarrior is close to a simulation, not a xbox arcade game for casual gamers.

Sorry, do not like this post. That is not the point. I am sure there are people who prefer 3rd person for an huge array of reasons, aesthetics, immersion or motion sickness. It also happens in racing games, flight simulators etc. The concern with having it here, as it has been stated dozens of times, is not one of "This game is much better than xbox arcade games because its a simulation" (of what?) but one of gameplay balance, as people would have an unfair advantage. That does not usually apply to other game genres, as in racing games, for example 3rd person view means much less accuracy.

People play in 3rd person mainy for the peek around ability. While I'm sure that there are some would perfer it because of motion sickness I would entirely disagree with them doing it for immersion, unless you are trying to immerse yourself in the aspect of being a drone camera following a mech around during combat.

Yes but people like seeing what they are driving, flying or riding. As in a game perception is done mainly with visuals, it takes imagination that not everyone has otherwise to get immersed.

Personally I have said it once already, I rather have the devs spend time on more important stuff, or replays at the very latest, but that does not mean that I consider everyone that wants 3rd person view a cheater or whatever.

Amen. The cockpit views in all of the Mechwarrior video games have done a horrid job of simulating the kind of visual information that a pilot in a mech has.

The view screens in a 'mech cockpit are purely secondary; the sensor readouts are the main source of battlefield visual information that a pilot uses... it would be totally awesome to see all that information displayed in a useful, streamlined way... but I don't know if it's possible to get that level of information crammed in a useful way onto a PC screen.

As far as third person itself and the previous balance issues? ... the past implementations were broken, and badly... but that doesn't mean it can't be done right.

All that has to be done is to simply not render anything that cannot be seen on the 'mechs sensors (visual or otherwise) or through the cockpit view screens by the pilot. That way, you have the level of information available to a 'mechwarrior in a 'mech cockpit ... and nothing more... and you get to see the coolness that is your 'mech (or trashcan, in the case of the lovable urbie!)

So you read the FAQ on the subject, but why did you not do a search on the subject and read up on it before posting about it?
I see this very same thing posted 2-3 times every single day.
Is the search function on the forums permanently broken or are people just too lazy to use it?

As for 3rd person view, would you drive a car while free floating behind it?
If you do, could you explain to me how you do that?
